WTF: Norv gets 3 year extension
Chargers | Turner agrees to three-year extension
Comment (0) Mon, 18 Jan 2010 19:32:46 -0800 Updating an ongoing story, the San Diego Chargers announced they have signed head coach Norv Turner to a three-year contract extension that will keep him with the team through the 2013 season. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. |
Back away from the ledge, Buck. It's not worth it.

Nolan leaves
Norv gets extended The AFC West has gone bonkers |
LMAO
Marty goes 14-2 loses in the Playoffs and gets fired. Norv goes 13-3 and loses in the playoffs and gets an extension. |
I hear that Buckinkaeding tried to commit suicide when he heard this, but Nate Kaeding missed when he tried to kick the chair.
|
Supposedly the Chargers players were taunting the Jets players. Saying they didn't belong in the playoff. They overlooked the Jets and Norv gets an extension
|
This is good news !
|
up next.... Extend LT for a few more years too?

This has been in the making for a while but I think with that stupid decision he made last night that should have been re-evaluated.

Best offseason . . . since the last one!

This can't be true.
All I can say is that Norv must be very good in bed. FAX |

Marty, as he did in Kansas City and Washington, tried to take control of the franchise. And lost. |
Vincent Jackson was arrested again before playoff game
Posted by Mike Florio on January 18, 2010 7:01 PM ET On Sunday, we posted an item regarding the status of Chargers receiver Vincent Jackson's legal entanglement from the days preceding the team's 2008 division-round loss to the Steelers. And, as luck would have it, Jackson encountered another legal entanglement in the hours preceding the team's 2009 division-round loss to the Jets. According to 10news.com, Jackson was pulled over by a San Diego police officer on Sunday. A department spokesman said the officer stopped Jackson because his music was too loud. The officer cited Jackson for having expired vehicle tags and driving with a suspended license, a misdemeanor under California law. Jackson was handcuffed "for a short period of time," but the officer opted not to take Jackson to jail. Still, Jackson's car was impounded, and he hitched a ride to the game with quarterback Philip Rivers. Jackson's DUI charges from January 2008 are still pending. |

That is the BEST pic! I love it! |
I figured that the on-side kick decision would be enough to start passing out pink slips to everybody. I didn't realize AJ would be ordering them from Nordstrom.

I think this is the best news! Some players will quit on a coach that has no accountability.

I hate Ol' Norv as much as the next guy, but is it really his fault that the kicker missed three field goals?

This brings me joy as Turner will only speed up the demise of the dolts.

San Diego is a very good team. Yes, they blew it yesterday. But once they finally get over LT and bring in a real running back through the draft this year, get back guys like Castillo and Brown, not to mention Merriman, this team will be a playoff team for years. If the Chargers had kept Michael Turner instead of LT, they'd have been a Super Bowl team last year. |
Didn't marty do the same thing when he was coach them?
|
Marty was fired for reasons that had nothing to do with what the Chargers did that season.
|
Norv might have gotten them closer than marty, but marty won more games and their results and superbowl appearances are the same.

Here's the problem - Norv is an excellent regular season coach.
Sure, he'll choke in the playoffs, but who really cares? They'll whup our ass twice a year and we won't be within sniffing distance of capitalizing on their post-season yack job. I was hoping they'd can Norv and bring in some young coordinator who proceeds to pull a McDaniels and sabatoge the organization. |

Okay, maybe my comment was a bit optimistic. Wishful thinking perhaps. But the decision to go for the onside kick seems like a harbinger of bad things to come for Coach Turner. One of those watershed moments of fate that doom a coach's future with his current franchise. Hell, that play may have secured Norv a place on the next NFL Films epic fail highlight reel. We'll see. But more importantly, a lot of Norv's talent came from Marty's drafts. [Two of the players you mentioned, Castillo and Merriman, were Marty's picks. Not sure who Brown is.] Will they be able to retain that talent? Replenish it? Can Norv win in SD with his own players? But I do agree with you in that the dolts should be a good team next year as they'll likely retain the core of their talent. Here's the draft breakdown: Norv 2009 1 Larry English 3 Louis Vasquez 4 Vaughn Martin 4 Tyronne Green 4 Gartrell Johnson 5 Brandon Hughes 6 Kevin Ellison 7 Demetrius Byrd 2008 1 Antoine Cason 3 Jacob Hester 5 Marcus Thomas 6 DeJuan Tribble 7 Corey Clark 2007 1 Craig Davis 2 Eric Weddle 3 Anthony Waters 4 Scott Chandler 5 Legedu Naanee 7 Brandon Siler Marty 2006 1 Antonio Cromartie 2 Marcus McNeill 3 Charlie Whitehurst 5 Tim Dobbins 6 Jeromey Clary 6 Kurt Smith 7 Chase Page 7 Jimmy Martin 2005 1 Shawne "roidman" Merriman 1 Luis Castillo 2 Vincent Jackson 4 Darren Sproles 5 Wesley Britt 6 Wes Sims 7 Scott Mruczkowski 2004 1 Phillip Rivers 2 Igor Olshansky 3 Nate Kaeding 3 Nick Hardwick 4 Shaun Phillips 5 Dave Ball 5 Michael Turner 6 Ryan Krause 7 Ryon Bingham 7 Shane Olivea 7 Carlos Joseph 2003 1 Sammy Davis 2 Drayton Florence 2 Terrance Kiel 3 Courtney Van Buren 4 Matt Wilhelm 5 Mike Scifres 6 Hanik Milligan 7 Andrew Pinnock 2002 1 Quentin Jammer 2 Toniu Fonoti 2 Reche Caldwell 3 Ben Leber 4 Justin Peelle 5 Terry Charles 6 Matt Anderle 7 Seth Burford |
We had this argument the other day, but the man is extremely fortunate. He's been able to be a head coach for the better part of the last 15 years, pretty much the entire salary cap era... and he's barely achieved squat.
He took over a Schottenheimer team that had a decent playoff run, but they still lost in the AFC title game. I don't think he's Rich Kotite or anything, but I think if you even gave someone like Herm 15 years, he'd probably chalk up one decent playoff run. Every year we hear how great they are and they're the team to beat, yet they never beat anybody. |
ROFL ROFL

norv is the man... a 10 year extension is what most of us Chiefs fans envisioned. :)

Crennel will be the other coach. Norv will go as far as Ron Rivera will let him go. I hope they lose him, that would make this abnormally juicy. |
That is ha-larious.

Wow. Good news for the other three teams in the AFCW and the other teams in the NFL. I dislike LT, so I can but laugh at the fact that the rest of his productive career is going to be wasted under Norv. No ring for you bitch.

Report: Ralph Wilson nixed potential return of Martyball Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on January 19, 2010 5:49 PM ET Bills owner Ralph Wilson's affinity of football men of a certain age has its limits. Tim Graham of ESPN reports that Marty Schottenheimer "badly" wanted the Bills coaching job, but Wilson was never on board. Schottenheimer worked previously with G.M. Buddy Nix, and publicly soft-pedaled his interest in the gig. But his experience with Nix didn't matter because Wilson "wasn't comfortable" with Schottenheimer. The news helps to explain why Marty's son Brian turned down a chance to interview. But it's unlikely to calm the anger of Bills fans or change the perception that Chan Gailey was a fallback choice. Bills fans would probably prefer a coach with Schottenheimer's track record if the team was looking for someone with head coaching experience. |
