Chiefs Planet night at the Mavs
The Missouri Maverick's have blocked out a section of seats for Planeteers for the Wichita Thunder game on Saturday, February 27th at 7:05pm. Let's get a group together and have some fun!
Process: Call 816-252-7825 during business hours and ask for Mike Fisher. Tell Mike you are part of the Chiefs Planet group and need tickets. The tickets we blocked out are Rinkside tickets in section 104. These normally sell for $25, but will be sold for $16 to our group. Master Card, Visa, American Express, and Discover can all be used for the tickets. Tickets will then be available at will call, where they can be picked up anytime including game day. Helpful Information: -Doors open at 6pm -Games usually are over around 9:30pm (depending on ot and shootouts) -Parking is free -Beer and mixed drinks are available in the arena but, like all stadiums, it's not cheap. -Team Colors: Black, blue and orange. The team recently switched to a primarily black jersey. I say this, although I think it would be kind of fun to wear all Chiefs stuff. (Wichita's team colors have no red) -Tailgating: Unlike arrowhead, the arena and parking lot are public property in Independence. Open containers are prohibited by law, and there are police in the lot prior to the game. I have heard that if people are tailgating and having beverages that are not identifiable as alchoholic (and not causing problems) they are left alone. If enough people attend and want to tailgate, we'll get a little organized. **I doubt there is enough interset here to warrant a sticky, so I am going to bump this once a week...sorry to those I annoy. |
Well, you've just helped me decide which weekend to come up to KC.
|
We are there. I'll make the call tomorrow or today, if I'm not distracted too much by my amazing husband's birthday!
|
so who's going?
|
I'll call tomorrow and get tickets!
If anyone is interested in tailgating, Big Dog has a lot of experience! Thanks Big Dog |
Called and got the 3 tickets, myself, the wife and son. First one in so I got the aisle seat.:)

I would so be all over this if I didn't live 2000 miles away. Have fun guys!
|
hell yes
|
Calling tomorrow to get my ticket.
|
I live in NYC or I would go :(
|
I got 2 tickets, so hopefully I can find someone who wants to go with me. He gave me the aisle seats right behind BRC's.
I'm looking forward to it. |

i'm gonna try and go, i've been meaning to see some hockey.
|
Hockey is best when served cold.
Was never interested in hockey until I finally watched a game in person few years back....thoroughly enjoyed it. If only I lived closer, I would join in with BRC on blocking the view of some of those that would be stuck sitting behind me. :D |
I'll be getting ticks this week.
|
Bump as promised! :)
|
just ordered my tickets.
woot woot. |
So, where's everyone sitting so far?
Section 104 (of course). I've got two seats in row M on the aisle. I know BRC has the seats in front of me in row L. |
I'm in 104, row L; seats 3 & 4.
|
Ordered my tickets today!
|
I'm looking forward to this. There are people going that I haven't met yet.

I am in the row in front of you, next to BRC |
Another bump as promised. Glad to see some of you are attending, hope we can get a lot more! :)
Saturday's game was awesome...Saturdays are generally sell outs. Another game tonight...Go Mavs! BTW Sandyskc...is that who I think it is? ;) |
Yes, I am who you think I am. Dan and Barb are coming to the game with me.
|
nm, can't make it, I'll hit up the next gathering.
|
Three weeks from now, I will be in KC! Hoping it stops snowing by then!
|
I dont know any on this board but I dont care I am there.Been wanting to go and this is good seats at discounted price, you are speaking my langauge.
|
I still have an extra ticket. Drawback is that you'd be sitting by me.
|
Hopefully we can find some more people to join us.
|
Hey, here for the weekly bump as promised, but I see there was some activity yesterday.
I hope some of you are still considering coming out to the game on the 27th, they are just a lot of fun. You got to love a sports team that is having 'Thirsty Thursday' as a promo event with drink specials before the game. :) On a side note my name has been changed to Southpark speak. I feel good that I knew timmay without looking it up, but admit I haven't watched Southpark enough to know if this is positive or negative. I am surprised though...that my prolific .08 posts a day over the last 6 1/2 years has garnered the attention of a mod. ;) |
I wish I could go, but NYC isn't next door :(
|
Excuses, excuses. :)
Wow...I got my name back! |
I created an event for this on the Chiefsplanet Crew group page on facebook, too.
|
Awesome...thanks!
|
I'm strongly considering this. Been thinking about getting out to see them but hadn't yet. Plus it's the day after my birthday. Yeah - might do that.
|
Two weeks.

11 Days away, and here is a bump and update. I know that game is expected to be a sellout (the least expensive seats are all ready gone), and whatever has been blocked out for us will surely be getting squeezed as we get closer...so if you are considering, please pull the proverbial trigger soon so as not to get shut out.
Hope to see you there! |
So, who's confirmed?
Big Dog Jilly & Sully luv Sandyskc BRC, Mrs BRC, BRC Jr Dayze Steve billay, Wyndex, kcfanXIII, Phobia (?, ?, ?, ?) For some reason I thought Fish was going, but maybe that's just to the brewery thing... with him and BRC, we could have some good geek talk. :) |
yep; the wife and I will be there.
I'll have to read up on hockey rules so I somewhat know what the hell is going on. |
Well, Mrs. Big Dog will be there too...although we have seats that are not right in the group.
I beleive Sandyskc will be bringing Mr. Sandyskc and sister Sandyskc as well. |

I would really love to.... but turns out I had to flip my weekends with my daughter, and I'll have her with me next weekend. I didn't want to impose a toddler on the group...

Hockey rules for Dummies(or those new to the sport :D) Off sides and icing is what really confuses most folks. And explaining it here makes it sound much more complicated than it actually is. You'll pick up these rules rather quickly just by watching a game or two. <table id="ncode_imageresizer_warning_1" class="ncode_imageresizer_warning" width="355"><tbody><tr><td class="td1" width="20">http://www.chiefsplanet.com/BB/image.../wol_error.gif</td><td class="td2">Click this bar to view the full image.</td></tr></tbody></table>http://images.wikia.com/openserving/...HockeyRink.png The spot between the blue line and the goal is known as the team's zone. Basic Vocabulary → Period There are three periods, each encompassing 20 minutes of stop time. There is an overtime period if the game is tied after three. Overtime is played as "sudden death", meaning the first team to score wins the game. If no one scores during the overtime period, there is a shoot out. For a shoot out, each team selects five players. In turn, each player begins at center ice, skating in for one shot on goal. The team scoring the most goals in five attempts is the winner. If the shootout is tied after all ten players have made their attempts, the competition continues in "sudden-death" mode: The teams trade shots until there is a winner. → Off-side When a team is on offense, the puck must enter the opposing team's zone(past the blue line) before any of the offensive players do. Icing happens when both of an offensive player’s skates are completely over the opposing team's blue line in their offensive zone before the puck enters the zone. When that happens, play is stopped and a face off occurs. The confusing part is when the puck leaves the zone when all the offensive players are still in the zone. If the puck leaves the zone, the offensive team must have all their players also leave the zone(cross the blue line) before the puck can re-enter the zone. → Icing Icing occurs when a player shoots the puck across at least two red lines, the opposing team's goal line being the last, and the puck remains untouched. When icing occurs, a linesman(referee) stops play. Play is resumed with a faceoff in the defending zone of the team that committed the infraction. a player on the opposing team other than the goaltender must touch the puck to cause the stoppage of play. If the puck is first touched by the goaltender or a player on the team that iced the puck, icing is waved off (cancelled) and play continues. The icing rule can lead to high-speed races for the puck. While an icing call is pending, the linesman raises an arm to indicate that a potential icing call may be made. If the icing is waved off, the official lowers his arm and gives the washout signal (extending both arms sideways from the body at shoulder height). To best explain this.... a shot from spot B would result in icing unless the puck is first touched by either the opposing goalie, or a member of the shooting team. A shot from spot A is not icing, since the puck doesn't cross both red lines. http://img684.imageshack.us/img684/3...ing3770385.png → In the crease If a player from the opposing team is in the other goalie’s crease (the area directly in front of the net) when the puck is not, the whistle is blown and the faceoff is taken in the neutral zone. → Puck leaving the ice If the puck deflects off into anything outside the playing area (other than the boards or glass), a faceoff will be called from where the puck was shot. → Handling the puck The puck may be batted down by a player’s hand anywhere on the ice. However, it may not be held, carried, or thrown. Only in a player’s defensive zone may a puck be passed to his own teammate. Minor penalty (2 minutes) A minor penalty is assessed when an official sees that an infraction has occurred. When a penalty is called on a player, the team becomes shorthanded while the player is in the box. If another player gets a penalty on the same team, the team is then down to three men on the ice. If by chance one or more penalties occur while the two players are already in the box, the new players also go in the box but the time on the third penalty does not start until the first one is over. A teammate who was on the ice at the time of the infraction serves a goalie’s penalty. The referee does not blow the whistle for a penalty until the player’s team touches the puck. A penalty is expired when the team with more players scores. The team with an advantage is said to have a “power play” while the team with players in the box are “killing a penalty.” → Tripping It is illegal for a player to use a stick or any part of the body in a manner that causes an opponent to fall. hooKing A player may not impede an opposing player by hooking or blocking the body with the stick. This is one of the most commonly called penalties in hockey, from collegiate level to NHL. → Interference If the opponent does not have possession of the puck, it is illegal for the player to impede the progress of that opponent. → Elbowing This is called when a player is using their elbow to hit an opponent is a cause for a minor penalty. → Holding A player must not grab an opponent in anyway. Major penalty (5 minutes) Minor penalties can be assessed as major if the referee believes the player committing the infraction had the intent to injure. Misconduct (10 minutes) In this situation, a player serves their penalty off the ice and may be substituted for another player on the team. Misconduct penalties include: Abusive language or taunting to official, continued altercations, second violation for illegal equipment, obscene gesture, threatening, language, ethnic or racial slurs, failure to go to penalty bench, player interference with penalty shot, puck shot after whistle, throwing stick off ice, and general unsportsmanlike conduct. Miscellaneous Infractions → Fighting Any type of fighting or punching can be a major penalty, misconduct, or game disqualification. → High stick vs. high sticking A high stick is when a player hits the puck from the air above four feet with his stick. This is just a faceoff in the player’s defensive end. High sticking, however, is a penalty when a player has his stick too high so that it endangers other players’ heads and necks. → Checking: women vs. men In Women’s hockey, separating the puck from the puck carrier with distinct body impact is not permitted. Men are allowed this luxury. → Hitting from behind Pushing, charging, cross checking, and body checking an opponent from behind in open ice is a penalty, usually a major one. Charging Skating more than two steps to hit an opponent is charging. |

Believe it or not, I played roller hockey when I was younger. I remember a few rules. High ticking, something about if you get possession of the puck on the back of the center line you have to wait for your team to get back behind the line before bringing the puck back across......Okay, so I may need someone to interpret.

What I do love though is the fact these players clearly are doing what they enjoy and putting out 100% most all the time. In that respect it is kind of like a college atmosphere...these players aren't "cakn"...and their drive and love of the sport are clearly evident to me. Now that being said, I like a good fight as much as the next guy. :) |
Bearcat, thanks for volunteering. I'll try not to pester you with an endless stream of questions.
|
The quality of hockey has been a little lacking as of late. The Mavs have struggled the last few games I've been to. But that's not to say that it isn't a really fun time. And it really makes you appreciate just how skilled professional hockey players are. I've noticed that the games against Wichita are always very good though. They seem to step it up a notch.

I love college hockey, for the effort and imperfections... like Fish said, it shows you how good the players are at the NHL level, and there are also scoring chances and other things that you normally wouldn't see in the NHL. A big difference is the positioning of the defenders... when you go from watching an NHL game to a college game, it's like an NHL defender never makes a mistake and is everywhere at once, where as in college you'll get chances to easily skate into the slot and catch defenders out of position. It's not as clamped down as the NHL, which can make it more entertaining. I'm going to a UNO game in Omaha the night before, so it'll be interesting to compare the two. |

There's going to be a ton of hockey next weekend... the Olympic semifinals Friday, going to the Mavs game in Omaha Friday night, the other Mavs on Saturday, the bronze medal game Saturday, then the gold medal game Sunday. Perfect timing, because the focus will switch to CBB the following week. :) |
Well, this is my final shameless bump for this post.
As predicted the sellout is causing the Mavericks to reclaim any unused ticket blocks set aside for groups. Anyone still wishing to get tickets for Saturday will need to contact the Mavs (per the original post) NO LATER THAN 3PM TODAY (Tuesday, February 23). After that time the unsold tickets will be released from their hold. If you have been hesitant...today is the day! :) See you there! |

I hope some more people decide to join us.

Well, I finally got our tickets just now. I'm such a procrastinator. I think we're sitting in row L, but hell if I know.....I didn't pay attention to what he said. I was interested in the fact that it seems I know someone on here I didn't realize I knew. Surprise. Now to figure out the username.

Then again, UNO is making strides. They just beat #1 Miami-Ohio on the road last weekend, who only had 1 conference loss before then... |
Nope, I figured out who it is thanks to a tip off from his wife...!
|
Looking forward to some hockey. Trying to decide whether to go pick up my tix when I get into town tomorrow, or get them at the window before the game.
