Waiting...

Grandfather had a stroke early Tues morning. Right side affected, brain bleeding with a 3 cm hematoma on the back of his head. We're wishing for mercy and not just comfort for the old man. I'm fine, it's just rough for everyone.

My grandmother had passed last November of cancer and he dealt with it like champ. Even though he had previously started losing his mind a couple of years before she was diagnosed with cancer. He's been living in assisted living for the past year.

Right now he's able to "wake up", able to understand, but unable to talk (if/when he does he sounds like ****ing Scooby Doo with his mouth full), able to stand up but unable to walk. He can smile.

And now that he's "pulling through." I can't help but feel frustrated. If he does "live", what the hell does he have to live for? A nursing home where he'll have to be pushed around everywhere and fed by someone else and he can't ****ing tell anyone what he wants and we can't understand him.

I'm pretty much venting because I'm incredibly frustrated. A lot of people (CP members included.) have had family members pass too soon. And as soon as there's someone who is ready to go and should be given mercy...they end up sitting on the bench for way too long.

If anyone talks to God, please remind them that they forgot someone. I would appreciate it ;)

I beginning to think the "Golden Years" aren't always so golden. In the last couple of days of my dad's battle with cancer I prayed to God to take him and end his misery.

Getting old sucks. No doubt.

Prayers for your family man. Hang in there.

They don't tell you when you're young how damn tough it can be to be man.

Huff, all best to you and yours.

Thanks guys! I really do appreciate it. Today it's looking like he's again able to "wake up." however he's not responding like he did yesterday. More frail, not able to recognize relatives. Not smiling.

I guess we're just riding the wave!

The hospital staff at St. Mary's in Jefferson City has been fantastic though.

***Update****

At 2:30 this morning my grandfather finally passed. My father and I have already moved his items from the nursing home. (My dad got the 40 inch flat screen consolation prize!)

I thank all of you for your compassion. This website/community is absolutely fantastic. I'm very glad to be apart of it!

Thanks again!

Jon

Good to hear man. I must admit that it's a bit unusual to hear someone happy about a loved one passing, but I certainly understand your situation. I'm glad that it's over for all involved.

The only guarantee we get out of this life is that no one's getting out alive. The best we can hope for is as little pain and suffering as possible. I'm happy to hear your grandfather is at peace.

Take Care
