Posting Political/Religious Threads in the Main Forum

Eventually a mod shows up to move the damned thing, but this has been happening way too much lately.

We have a special playground for all your politards and bible thumpers/haters for a reason.

I propose that from this point forward people who do this should lose their thread starting privileges, at least temporarily.

FAX 03-01-2010 12:14 PM

What about my Ululogy thread? I don't want to lose my thread starting rights and see ChiefsPlanet suffer as a result. My threads are the awesomest threads and I don't want to see ChiefsPlanet members pay the penalty for my mistake. Think of the children.

I just know that, a lot of times, a person will engage in ulology when their favorite person gets elected or maybe dies, so ululation could be considered both religious and political, but I didn't mean for it to be, honest.

I'll second that motion to rescind his thread-starting privileges.

As for the rest....eh, it gives DaFace something to do.

Jenson71 03-01-2010 12:17 PM

If it's consistent and blatant, I can understand why: because a mod would get tired of moving it. On those grounds, I could support it.

Stinger 03-01-2010 12:18 PM

Oh great now we got a free speech thread in the main forum ........... Dammit Frazod!!!!!!!!!! :cuss: :cuss:

JD10367 03-01-2010 12:19 PM

I voted yes.

And, technically, since this is a political/religious thread... buh-bye, see you in a week when the ban on you is lifted. :)

KC native 03-01-2010 12:20 PM

I agree but there are some threads that are clearly not supposed to be political/religious in nature but some dumbass turns them that way. An exception should be made for those threads.

I'm okay with that. You can't blame the thread starter.

I'd be okay with a temp ban of thread starting privlidges. You should know better to start with anyway.

King_Chief_Fan 03-01-2010 12:28 PM

with most of the crap that shows up in the Lounge, what does it hurt?

someone afraid that their poop thread doesn't leave a skid mark on the front page so everyone knows it is there.

I vote for putting all non football related crap in a different place.

stlchiefs 03-01-2010 12:34 PM

I voted no. Too often something turns political based on responses. Even more though, what else is there to read in the Lounge lately? It seems to me that most of the threads are placed in the appropriate forum, if someone posts a thread in the wrong spot every once in a while it doesn't throw the earth of its axis, who cares. Remember, DaFace is holding this world together, it's going to be ok.

Hog's Gone Fishin 03-01-2010 12:40 PM

Just think if Frazod was a mod ther'd be nobody able to start a thread except for him.

Well, I'd likely implement minimum intelligence standards. That would pretty much preclude you from ever starting another one.

Mr. Laz 03-01-2010 01:12 PM

Yes, if it's determine to be an intentional type thing and not a borderline issues.

a temp thread starting ban would work

Titty Meat 03-01-2010 01:23 PM

I disagree sometimes the line between politics and news is so thin. The IRS Pilot story is a good example of that.

IMO, most of them are absolutely deliberate, posted by members who have always resented the formation of the DC forum (despite the fact that they won't admit it). I liken it to testing a perimeter for weakenesses.

There's a difference between an obvious inflammatory thread and a news story thread that gets dragged into the abyss by angry politards. All it takes to determine one from another is a little common sense.

JD10367 03-01-2010 02:51 PM

They used to have this same debate at PatriotsPlanet all the time, and the verdict was always that the wacky any-topic-goes stuff is what kept it interesting. Segregating the football stuff out might make the football stuff dry up. Besides, it's the offseason.

Just make sure you don't go too much in the wrong direction. I don't post on Patsfans 'cause I can't figure out the literally 2,580 different boards they have for everything over there. Too much of a good thing is just as bad as not enough. You guys at least have the Media area and the Pictures area, which are more than PatriotsPlanet, so I think you've got a decent setup here.

Despite what morons like rambleonwithmyheadupmyass think, this wouldn't limit anybody from doing anything. People should be able to post all the political horseshit they want, just where it belongs.

If I come to your house, you probably won't mind if I take a dump, as long as I do it in the bathroom and not on top the coffee table.

Well honestly I couldn't care less where anything is posted. I only voted yes to make yours, and the good Senator's life easier.

I think having a football only forum wouldn't be good. I talk Chiefs football a couple of times a week, otherwise I'm bullshitting about God knows what. A daily visitor here can only wax philosophy so long until it's all repetitive.

FTR, I was not suggesting a "football only" forum, as I'm sure you realize. But obviously there is a huge difference between religious and political threads that will draw out every extremist nutjob that posts here and threads about beer, or BBQ, or ex-girlfriends.

Doesn't really matter. It's settled policy that religious/political topics are not posted in the lounge.

Is there a reason people can't just ignore the threads they don't like? I don't click on the majority of threads that are posted in the lounge, and open the ones I am interested in. Seems to work well.

I see your join date is August of 2005. This means you weren't here in the fall of 2004 when 2/3rds of the front page was political threads, constantly, right in the middle of football season. That's the reason the DC forum was created in the first place.

These people must be contained. It's as simple as that.

Fair enough.

Has there been some huge influx of political/religious threads recently that caused you to start this thread? Maybe I've just missed them, since, like I said I ignore threads I don't want to open. I typically never see more than one thread at a time on the front page of the lounge that I would imagine is a political or religious thread though.

Yes, there has been. Perhaps one of the mods could site examples. Once a thread gets moved to DC from the main forum, there's no way that I know of to search for it.

If you're talking about my Cheney prayer thread, I didn't do anything but say positive things about a sick man, including recognizing the results of an official ChiefsPlanet poll (at least until the thread was played out here and moved to DC where a second, more political, life was breathed into it).

Your inability to distinguish between political threads and clearly acceptable NFT threads is one of the reasons why a more formal rule like the one you've proposed is a bad idea. You'd constantly be whining about how the mods were failing to protect you from your own inability to avoid clicking on certain threads if you had a published rule to wave around. Hell, you're regularly whining about it anyway.

I think DaFace and the rest of the grownups already have this under control, Fraz. Go ahead and put your toy badge back in your pocket and run along now, whippersnapper. ;)

He had a heart attack last week. I posted a prayer thread asking people to send a few kind thoughts in the direction of the man recognized by ChiefsPlanet as the best VP in history in an official Rain Man certified poll. Some posted positive thoughts, some who apparently had nothing positive to say graciously chose not to say anything at all, and others, like Fraz and Laz weren't able to contain themselves.

Thankfully, the power of ChiefsPlanet was once again in evidence as VP Cheney pulled through and is expected to recover completely. :thumb:

Exhibit A: I posted a quite appropriate picture of a scantily clad female (I believe she's Jenna Jameson but could be wrong) accompanied by a giant birthday cake in the "Happy Birthday Laz" thread today and you immediately responded with a (harmless) political comment. Nothing about my post even hinted at politics but you couldn't help yourself. It's certainly harmless AFAIC, but it's more political than I get out here. Check it out:

I know you put a lot of thought into this latest blast of lying bullshit, but unfortunately it's probably only worked on about 27% of the people who read it.

You may be the Lord of the Flies over in DC, but here you're just another extremist that the normal folks really don't want to know about. And I certainly had nothing to do with the lopsided vote results, toy badge notwithstanding.
