Hundreds show up for Tim Tebow $160 autograph signing

Posted by Michael David Smith on March 7, 2010 12:47 PM ET

When we first heard that Tim Tebow would be charging $160 to sign his autograph, we weren't sure who would be willing to pay such a hefty price.

The answer: A huge crowd of people.

Tebow appeared Saturday at Palm Beach Autographs, and so did a crowd estimated by the Florida Times-Union at 1,500 who thought $160 was a perfectly reasonable price to pay for Tebow's signature. Some also spent an additional $75 for photos with the former Florida quarterback.

Tebow told the Florida Times-Union that "a portion" of the proceeds would go to his Tim Tebow Foundation. There's no word on how much that portion was, or where the rest of the money went. If 1,500 people paid $160 each, that's $240,000 -- before we get to the $75 photos.

"It's an honor to have people want to want you and want to have your autograph and want to be around you," Tebow said. "That's special to have an opportunity to sign for people, but it's more special to be able to do things like we're doing and being able to really just brighten kids' days in really their darkest hour of need, which is a lot of what my foundation is about."

One 12-year-old fan said his parents took him out of school on Friday so he could fly all the way from Pennsylvania to get Tebow's autograph.

"I think he's a good role model for kids," the 12-year-old said. "He's my role model."

**** that guy.

If there was truly a god in this world, he would have apparated in the middle of Tebow's price-gouging temple and gone apeshit.

Holy ****! Seriously? People are dumb as shit.

But lets see what Tebow does with the money. If he keeps it, I'll be VERY shocked.

I'd bet money he holds onto all but 10% of it until at least after the draft.

Sad really.
Fresh out of school, and already his agent has him thinking like a ****ing millionaire.
If he was truly genuine he'd have said $25 an auto, $50 a pic and had tripple the line up to suport his cause. With ALL proceeds going to charity.

Hog's Gone Fishin 03-07-2010 01:08 PM

Yeah , thats a little bit overboard. I only charge $50 for mine.

Damn right.

I've got no problem with this. It's a good investment. I have a feeling he's going to be doing this sort of stuff as much as he can for the next few years. He's relevant right now and he's going to use that up as much as he can before he steps onto an NFL field and becomes completely irrelevant in football conversation.

Jesus would definitely commodify himself for monetary gain.

I don't disagree at all. He set a price, people were willing to pay it. As long as he holds his end and donates a portion of it to his charity then more power to him.

What's the old adage about a fool and his money? They will soon be parted. Just like the red sea from Tim Tebow. :D

You people got to be shi*ing me. Plenty of athletes do this same thing and give nothing for proceeds. Every day I am in shock more and more by the amount of people that hate Tim Tebow. This coming from a guy who thinks Christianity is fucking reeruned.

Gonzo 03-07-2010 08:33 PM

Really? If that were me, I'd do the same ****ing thing. If people want to pay me for my signature, then hell yes. He just made in one afternoon, what most of us make in a year.
I wouldn't give shit to charity either. Screw a bunch of starving hatians. I need a gold plated toilet, mother****er.

The really smart people have Tim Tebow put his autograph on beanie babies and cabbage patch dolls and chihuahuas, because the value doesn't just add, it multiplies.
