Well, at least Matt Cassel has no excuses next year.
New OC. Check
New slot reciever. Check New TE. Check 2 new G's Check New C. Check Solid LT with 2 years experience. Check #1 WR with two 1,000 yard seasons (almost) first two seasons. Check #2 WR with solid game. Check 2 great RB's. Check Big Matt is all out of excuses except for a new RT. Time to put up dude! |
This entire draft other than Berry and Arenas is about making Cassel look like he wasn't a bad decision...
2 guys were drafted that are basically designed to run little checkoff routes. |
Nope. RT will still be a viable excuse.
|
Anyone who thought we were going to draft Claussen is a fool. This team is all about Cassel.

Not at my house. :shake: They set the table for this dude. Let's see what he's got. |

**** Pioli. **** Cassel. **** this franchise.

Cassel needs to step up and show he is what all the pundits said he was last year... which was a top 10 QB. God knows the defense suffered in this defense heavy draft... in order to give Cassel what he needs. |

So, at the end of the day, Matt Cassel has to perform next year to be considered for the long term future of the franchise? Hell, he could have told you that before the draft.
|
Quote:
BUT, at the end of this year, Cassel has a clause in his contract that basically lets us walk away if he isn't the answer. Looks like we are going to have an answer to that question if nothing else this season. |
I love chasing bad decisions.

Just sayin' though... Cassel will have no excuses come January. My hope is he has us in the playoffs. But I'm not going to go to Vegas and bet the ranch. |

This is what happens when you are incapable of admitting you made a piss poor decision. |

Today was appallingly bad and it's because of Pioli's nepotism. |
This pretty much guarantees that Matt Cassel is the QB for the next 5 years.

Were going to find out this year if the 26 yard hail mary off the crossbar was the exception or the rule. |

We have more than enough evidence to prove that Pioli is shockingly incompetent. As Rany said about the Royals: "We must put our trust in God because we cannot trust our front office." |

you know i think McCluster will be a good player for the Chiefs but damn it's where they took him at that really bugs me.

If Cassel is the next Trent Green like everybody around here wants, maybe next year we can add a wide receiver and have the #1 offense! It'll be just like old times.

But none the less, he has a roster full of new guys since he first stepped on the field as a Chief. Waters (nearly done) and Bowe are the only two that are not "new" since that day. We should see some real progress if he is a true QB. And I have a feeling the opposing DC's are going to test him. Can't imagine many of them are going to go home with Charles hanging 200 on them as the first option. |
I hope Matt Cassel gets hit by a greyhound bus.

BTW I loved Trent Green, but I need to vent. |

It should be apparent they believe in what they have at those positions and are relying on coaching to make it happen.... |

My guess right now is this does not turn out near as bad as what many are thinking right now.Last year's team did better than what I expected in truth. Was really expecting a team that might have the #1 pick in 2010.They do need a couple guys on D,but I have a strange feeling this turns out ok.I am not saying 10 wins or anything right now,but I think they actually might have built a little here if one does believe in Albert.I think the D will pull off a bit of a surprise and the team will improve and be decent.Don't believe Pioli has it all ****ed up just yet, and I really don't even care for him.Just an opinion.

It seems that they're comfortable with Edwards and Smith. |

...it's 11 guys, not 1. |
What are we waiting to see?
Last year Matt Cassel put a stat line almost as good as Tyler Thigpen's. He threw for 21 TDs in the same exact offense that Brady threw 50 TDs for. Pioli can surround him with the AFC All Star team but he's still a backup QB on most teams. |
Oh god, KCJohnny has turned to the darkside.
|
You know what I'd like to do?
I'd like to find the guy that did this, rip his still beating heart out his chest and hold it in front of his face, so he can see how black it is before he dies. |

With this stable of RBs and Crennel's 3-4, I realistically think this team can win 9 games next year. I would consider anything less than that underachievment. As we all know, the distance between 10-6 and 6-10 can be acouple turnovers and a STs play or two. KCJ  |
Just for the sake of playing Devil's advocate...
Drew Brees was so piss-poor during his first go-round as Chargers starter that they drafted Rivers. Not saying that Cassel is Brees, but I am saying things were not exactly stacked in his favor last season. - #1 Receiver out for 4 games due to substance abuse suspension. - #2 Receiver doesn't get to KC till midway through the season. - Stuck handing off to LJ for half the year. - Offensive coordinator was fired before the start of the season. - Offensive line had major issues throughout the season. I will fully admit that he didn't play well even when Charles was tearing it up. But the situation he was put in was hardly one where you could legitimately expect success. Now, with a new draft's worth of weapons, a re-tooled o-line, and a full off-season learning under Weis, I think it's reasonable to think that he can have a solid season. Maybe he doesn't make the Pro Bowl, but I think based on this off-season, he should have a markably better season this year as opposed to last. He did win 11 games two years ago (Which is still 1 more than the Chiefs have won in the past 3 seasons). Always look on the bright side of life, peeps. |

I hope he's AWESOME in KC with a more balanced offense that won't be running the spread like NE. But looks like Weis was brought in here to replicate the Pats spread O and we've already seen Cassel perform a workman-like fill-in role with average results. I'm 90% certain that nearly every back up QB in the NFL could have produced similar results on the 2008 Pats. I just hope Haley/Weiss maximize what talent they HAVE and not hammer the available talent into the Kansas City Chieftriots. We've already seen this movie with Ramifization in 2001-2005. :D |

We was right there. 'Course, we was also both dead wrong about Herm....BUT that's a different story... |

Q: will the Chiefs run a spread O in 2010? Is Haley looking for a Cards type O? We do not have the horses for that. |
Quote:
Time will tell of course, but right now, I'd say the chances of Tebow being an NFL success, or at the very least, not an NFL failure, are the greatest in Denver. If he were to have gone to Buffalo or Jacksonville, I'd wager he'd be playing QB for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in two years. |

That's the whole idea. You draft players who can play a number of positions and then you don't have to replace a stud at position A or D, just an underpaid guy asked to play 2 or 3 positions... |
Quote:
This is still the same Todd Haley that fired Chan Gailey right before the 2009 season so he could run 'his' offense. I hope you are right, but I somehow doubt it. |
You don't have Charles and Jones on your team and then run a spread. You don't draft a TE like Moeaki if you are going spread. This team might have some 5 receiver formations and look to get the defense to cover the whole field, but we're not a spread any more than we were with Trent Green and Priest Holmes.

There will be all sorts of excuses. Just wait...
1. He's started for only two full seasons. Give him time! 2. Yet another OC! He needs consistency! 3. McCluster is still learning the system! 4. He's throwing to tiny targets! Rinse, repeat. |
Quote:
& If Moeaki didnt get injured Cassel wouldve had a check down on all those sacks! |
Quote:

so if Albert and O'callaghan don't improve and Cassel has to run for his life again ... that's an excuse?

If opposing DC's do put 8 in the box to take Charles out of the gameplan, we now have the weapons for Cassel to make them pay. And those weapons can take the ball to the house. Bowe can. Chambers can. McCluster can. And Mieoke (sp) can. But Cassel has to be able to hit those receivers... something he was not able to do last season when given the opportunity to pass. If he does hit them this season, this offense could be fun to watch. Damn fun. If he can not hit them... might be time for a new signal caller. Even if O'Callahan isn't the greatest RT in the league. It's on Cassel. Nothing more. Nothing less. |
