Campbell and Campbell

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/blogs/...entry_id=62085

DONE DEAL: We're hearing fourth-round pick in 2012 for Jason Campbell. Also, he's talked with Al Davis and a year was added to his deal, through 2011. No word yet on if JaMarcus Russell gets a chance to compete against Campbell or gets his walking papers.

UPDATE: It's 10 a.m. and Oakland is in serious talks with Washington about trading for quarterback Jason Campbell -- maybe for a sixth-rouond pick or a combination of picks. Does this signal the end for JaMarcus Russell, or a spirited quarterback competition at training camp?
The Raiders selected Maryland offensive tackle Bruce Campbell in the fourth round Saturday morning. He was the combine superstar who many experts had Oakland taking with the eighth pick in the first round.
Campbell, 6-foot-5 and 310 pounds, ran a 4.78 40-yard dash and has the longest arms (36 1/4 inches) of any player in the entire draft. Of all the tackles in the draft, he and third-round pick Jared Veldheer were the most athletic and physically imposing. Whether either can drive NFL defenders remains to be seen.

Campbell went 106th and two picks later, the Raiders traded up to draft Clemson receiver Jacoby Ford. The price tag was one of their fifth-round picks and starting middle linebacker Kirk Morrison. Morrison lost his job Thursday night when Oakland drafted Rolando McClain in the first round.
Morrison, I hear, was a class act who had led the team in tackles the last five years -- though most of those were eight yards down the field. A third-round pick from San Diego State in 2005, Morrison has started 79 of 80 games in five seasons. He has 621 tackles, six forced fumbles and five sacks.
Ford, the NCAA 60-meters indooor champ last year, gives Al Davis his speed fix. He didn't become a full-time starter until his senior season.

The Raiders are going to surprise some people next year.

Buck 04-24-2010 03:43 PM

LOL @ the Morrison tackles being 8 yards down the field.

Better than nothing right?

That was the knock on Donnie Edwards in San Diego and when we let him go our ILB corps went to shit.

The Raiders are going to win 8 games now, they shockingly had a good draft, I'm still trying to fathom it.

Mostly cuz the Raider schedule is soft & smooth as a woman's...... you know.

Buck 04-24-2010 03:46 PM

Also, I'm surprised that Bruce Campbell fell so far.

A lot of players fell pretty far this year.

If you properly coach Campbell he'll be a monster, that is a great 4th round pick.

Cable can coach Oline.

Al Davis is probably in the hospital, so the GM actually got to do something besides fetch coffee and fire up the VHS (to play Rebel Without a Clue)

Dude.... Coach Cable is in trouble again. First there was the punched assistant. And now Jamarcus has accused Cable of sticking him with a fork during a discussion in the front office. This could get ugly...

I heard that last year too. Especially after they ran for 300 yards week 2 I think it was.

Not have JaMarcus holding them back does make you wonder though.

Might be used as a guard till he learns the T position better.... per Jerry McDonald. Better to take your guards in the 4th rather than the 1st (Gallery).

"Maryland tackle Bruce Campbell will play right tackle and guard, and Cable said it’s conceivable he could be a guard. "

They were a competitive team when Gradkowski was in there. Give them McClain, Jason Campbell, Lamarr Houston, Bruce Campbell, Jacoby Ford, and an offseason of Murphy, Schilens, and DHB working out with an NFL caliber QB and they could be pretty good.

McFadden is a good CB as well, and if DMC ever lives up to his potential, their offense will be ****ing scary.

2010 NFL Draft Results, Draft Grades: Live Blogging and Grading The Picks

(Round 7)

Grade: A-
1:04 EST: Jason Campbell trade is confirmed to Oakland. Don't look now, but the usually incompetent Raiders are having an incredible three days.
Campbell will start from day one and should be a huge upgrade. Bold prediction: Raiders compete for a Wild Card spot in the AFC.

1:20 EST: Campbell trade update: The pick in return to the Skins has yet to be announced, but it will be a 4th or 5th NFLN is reporting. JaMarcus Russell has yet to hear from the Raiders about the trade.

2:33 EST: The Raiders pick up a LB (they traded Kirk Morrison to the Jags earlier today, if that wasn't mentioned already), Travis Goethel. An OLB for Arizona State, Goethel will contribute, at least initially, on ST.
Grade: B-
3:34 EST: Raiders add more depth their secondary with Michigan State's CB Jeremy Ware. Only thing you need to know about him?

Grade: A
5:04 EST: Oakland drafts a Michigan DB, and it's not Donovan Warren. Stevie Brown, a hybrid SS/LB is coming to the Bay. So surprised about Warren...and feel bad for him. Had another year of eligibility.
Grade: B-

Grading the draft: Washington Post

KC: B+ The Chiefs needed plenty of help and they got it with five of the top 96 selections, beginning with S Eric Berry at fifth overall. He’s a game-changer, and RB Dexter McCluster and CB Javier Arenas add big-play ability.

Den: C+ The Broncos have the most intriguing class after getting WR Demaryius Thomas and QB Tim Tebow. The Tebow pick will be most scrutinized, but many believe he’s at least several years away from being an NFL QB. WR Eric Decker was a good value

Oak: A- The Raiders did not make their usual baffling early picks. LB Rolando McClain was a mild surprise but made sense. DT Lamarr Houston was a good value, and T Bruce Campbell a superb fourth-rounder. The Raiders also traded for QB Jason Campbell.

SD: B- The Chargers probably needed an every-down RB and potentially got one in first-rounder Ryan Mathews. Fifth-round DT Cam Thomas also could help after the offseason release of veteran Jamal Williams.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv...0/grading.html

I like this from CBS Sports: No. 25: Broncos select Tim Tebow, QB, Florida, GRADE: F
Analysis: By far and away the worst pick in this draft. Wow. How can you justify trading away Cutler and picking this kid. He's a fifth-round pick -- at best. Now we know why Josh McDaniels will last one more year in Denver. Horrible. Just horrible.
