ThunderCats is Returning to TV in 2011
http://cdn.springboard.gorillanation...ts/image_1.jpg One of the most beloved 80's cartoons is getting a reboot on Cartoon Network in 2011. by Becky Young Jun 02, 2010 This morning we received a FedEx package with a large poster enclosed ... and I almost wet myself. Too much information? Well, after reading the following press release from Warner Brothers Studios - I think that you may have the same reaction. (June 3, 2010 – Burbank, CA) – Warner Bros. Animation (WBA) has begun production on “ThunderCats,” an all-new animated series for Cartoon Network, based upon the iconic 1980s action classic. “ThunderCats” is the newest series from WBA, joining “Batman: The Brave and the Bold,” which was recently renewed for a third season, and the following forthcoming programs: “The Looney Tunes Show,” “MAD,” “Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated” and “Young Justice.” The announcement was made today by Sam Register, Executive Vice President, Creative Affairs, Warner Bros. Animation. “In addition to being Warner Bros. Animation’s first anime series, ‘ThunderCats’ marks our most ambitious foray yet into fantasy,” said Register. “The realism and dynamic visual style we’ve achieved are sure to thrill viewers, and the cool weapons, vehicles and technology should help the show appeal to a diverse audience.” The 21st century reimagining of the series marks a creative collaboration between WBA and Studio4°C, one of the most vibrant animation studios in Japan, with credits including “The Animatrix,” “Gotham Knights” and “Halo Legends.” WBA is working closely with Studio4°C, utilizing the latter’s expertise to give the “ThunderCats” characters a new cutting-edge look while remaining true to the compelling storylines and mythology of the original series. “We at Studio4°C are excited to be in this creative partnership with Warner Bros. Animation to bring ‘ThunderCats’ to life,” said Eiko Tanaka, President and CEO, Studio4°C. “This collaboration combines the strengths of our two companies – high production values and great storytelling – toward reintroducing this classic fan-favorite to a new audience.” Roaring to life through WBA and Studio4°C’s use of the Japanese animated artistry of anime, “ThunderCats” characters Lion-O, Mumm-Ra, Panthro, Cheetara and others will spring off the screen with realistic cat-like characteristics inconceivable in previous incarnations. The new “ThunderCats” will appeal to viewers who have loved the characters all their lives as well as young newcomers to the franchise. A sweeping tale combining swords and science and boasting ferocious battles with the highest of stakes, the grand origin story of Prince Lion-O’s ascension to the throne – and of those who would thwart his destiny at any cost – takes on epic dimensions in this sharp new telling. As the forces of good and evil battle each other in the quest for the fabled Stones of Power, Lion-O and his champions learn valuable lessons of loyalty, honor and mortality in every episode. “ThunderCats” is executive produced by Sam Register (“Teen Titans,” “Ben 10,” “Batman: The Brave and the Bold”). Michael Jelenic (“Batman: The Brave and the Bold,” “Wonder Woman”) and Ethan Spaulding (“Avatar: The Last Airbender”) are the producers. http://cdn.springboard.gorillanation...ages/tcats.jpg |
gay sorry but their raping my childhood.
|
why can't they just let shit stay in the 80s where they ****ing belong
|
While I definately agree with the thought that some new material needs to be thought up rather than just revamping everything again and again, I am kind of excited to see this. If they don't make it super cheesey like the Batman: The Brave and the Bold show, then this could be awesome.

These were their vehicles: http://www.chronicsite.com/gatchaman/mechs.html It was originally titled Gatchaman in Japan, then they changed it to G-Force for the release in America. |

"Why doesn't the monster just attack the lions during the 3 minutes it takes them to form Voltron?" and "Why don't they just form the "Voltron sword" first instead of getting their butts kicked for 5 minutes?" Like you said, every episode followed the same pattern with little deviation. |

The continuity is different, but the show looks like it has promise.

First 2 episodes imo were great. I loved that its set a few thousand years after. Though everyone has the same name. They do go into a little history.
Spoiler!

I don't believe they are on Earth 3, but Thundara itself |

I watched the first episode with my kids ( who both love the original show), but they were bored to tears by the new one. I thought it was okay. However, we all enjoy the new Voltron, which is a continuation an the original rather than a reboot. Hunk head rocks!

what about that one cartoon with the robot with a giant tail that was a blade saw

Meh. The appeal of the Thundercats (to me) is/was how seriously the characters took themselves. It's incredibly cheezy with cheese on top. Then you throw in the fact that they rode around in what looked like giant plastic toys to help with marketing...pretty weak. I'm still fond of the show for nostalgic reasons but it was crap. As Moho mentioned, Thundarr the Barbarian was much better.

See that? A poster for "Jaws 9" in the background, a nice butt on the female lead and a shot of our hero: Conan with a light saber. Later he steals a helicopter and rescues her then defeats the Statue of Liberty when it is brought to life by an evil wizard. |

The first season which had 8 episodes of it was great. Im looking forward to watching more. I dont watch ANY animation/cartoon or whatever you wanna call it, outside of this one. So for me, it was a good thing.
|
It looks like they are going to have Cheetara and Tygra make sweet sweet love.
|
Are they going to follow this up with She-Ra? Come on Hollywood. For the love of Pete, you're bringing back the Munsters. Stop bringing back shows that sucked the first time. Who is going to watch this show? The ones who watched in the past are grown up.
|
I think its pretty damned good. Every week is a damned good life lesson for kids.
Im really enjoying it. I am 35, so i was around when the first incarnation of this was going strong in the 80's. I dont watch ANY cartoons but this show. First one in about 20 years or so. lol |
