Chiefs Supplemental Draft Interest

Chiefs Reportedly Talking With Supplemental Draft Entrant Harvey Unga

http://cdn0.sbnation.com/profile_ima...dshot_tiny.jpg by Joel Thorman on Jun 17, 2010 5:31 PM PDT in 2010 Kansas City Chiefs Season http://cdn3.sbnation.com/images/icons/comment.v1599.png 30 comments, 30 new

The NFL's supplemental draft is coming up. This is basically the offseason draft for players who become academically ineligible or kicked off the team. In the case of Harvey Unga, it's the latter. He violated BYU's very strict honor-code for apparently dating another BYU student (yes, the code is that strict...and, no, I don't know how Jim McMahon ever went to school there).

Unga, a former BYU running back, did an interview with Deep Shades Of Blue and said he has spoken with the Chiefs front office recently. In fact, they had been on the phone for over an hour, according to the report.
He's holding a pro day on July 8th, where at least 14 teams are expected to show up.

"A lot of people talk about the power running teams," Unga said when asked where he might fit. "Teams that have the more physical running backs. I guess a lot of people put me as someone like that. Whatever they need me to do, I'll do, whether it's a power back or working on the passing game.

"I have a good feeling some team out there will give me a chance to help the program."

The way the supplemental draft works is like a silent auction. The Chiefs would put in a bid (2011 draft pick) and if that's the highest bid, they would be awarded his services losing that that 2011 draft pick.

Oh, and the other BYU student is Keilani Moeaki. And, yes, that's the sister of who you think it is.

This could get a little weird.

Mr. Laz 06-17-2010 08:21 PM

of course Unga just broke the cone of silence(missed it by THAAT much) so now they probably won't put in a bid. ROFL

i can't imagine them putting a high round bid in on a RB anyway ... 5th or 6th?

ChiefsCountry 06-17-2010 08:54 PM

It wasnt dating, they were caught ****ing which is a big big no no at BYU.

How's Unga gonna take Haley ROFL

I would be more prone to go in the supp draft for a position of need instead of a rb right now.
And if there is no one available hold onto the pick for next year.

It will an interesting lockerroom dynamic if Unga and Tony Moeaki are on the squad. Tony "why were you ****in my sister" Unga " da, dua, aahh........ I was looking for my History homework and I thought it could be in her vagina." Unga continuing " I was purely innocent really, I thought the only way to get them was if I used my penis"

They are looking at this dude to be the Thomas Jones when Thomas Jones can't be Thomas Jones anymore. They get him now and store him away for 2 years to learn and then bam he comes into the rotation with fresh legs and the position stays filled.

and no they couldn't, they would be too fascinated by their trainers holding a banana as a reward. Personally, I'm more of a potato chip, and soft drink kind of guy when I do a good job.

From what I'm hearing, next year's draft is probably going to be very shallow, so there's no real need to hold on to lower round picks if you think this guy has a shot to make the team.

Frankie 06-18-2010 11:03 AM

Why another RB?

and thats the best one I could find.

I see a guy that holds the ball in a place that NFL defenders dream about, doesnt have the power you expect from a player of his size, seems like a good receiving option and seems to have good elusiveness for a man his size.

absolutely. Next years draft will be top heavy and shallow because of so much talent declaring for the 2010 draft and players waiting for the following draft because of the probable lockout.

My only issue with that statement is that he didn't have a single fumble in his college career.

watch the video, he holds the ball away from his body and low. He may not have fumbled in college, but he will need to be coached to hold the ball differently in the NFL or he will have fumbling problems. If we are awarded him, I dont see that being a problem because Maurice Carthon is one of the best and will coach that out of him.

I don't think he will have any role on any team that gets him other than the role of "Mike Alstott Lite"
He profiles like a receiving fullback/short yardage back

salame 06-19-2010 04:04 AM

But hey, I thought the same thing about Brian Leonard too and where the **** is that guy lol

chiefzilla1501 06-19-2010 07:41 AM

Not real excited about bringing in another RB. I guess what's intriguing, though, is that he seems to be a pretty good receiver despite his size. We all know that Charlie Weis really values versatility. Would make for some interesting options if you have a power back or fullback whose capable of also splitting out wide as a receiver.

I guess it's not a bad option. Thomas Jones can't be here forever. Just practice squad him and develop him a bit.

I am wondering if this guy couldn't be more of the Kevin Faulk type for our offense.
