I lived with my aunt and uncle, and yes, we did take my aunt.

ClevelandBronco 06-19-2010 10:57 AM

I'll always love it because it was the first movie my mom took me to see.

i loved those drive-ins. right in the middle of the movie, someone would start up and drive off, forgetting to hang their speaker back up. they'd yank it out and kill every speaker in that row. people start honking horns and freaking out.ROFL

Simpler times.

I haven't been to a movie in years, but should I go, I would much prefer to go to the local drive-in than to a theatre.

milkman 06-19-2010 11:04 AM

Oh, and I always wondered, how the hell do you forget to remove the speaker?

You think I'm surley now, wait until you see how I am after a couple of hours around people.

People piss me off.

cdcox 06-20-2010 07:18 AM

Great memories of drive ins. Dad and I went to see a triple header of Logan's Run, Roller Ball and Soylent Green. I still love all three of those movies to this day.

Baby Lee 06-20-2010 07:37 AM

Loved when they put the kids movies on one screen and the naughty movies on another, and you spent the evening trying to catch glimpses of the naughty movie without being noticed.

I love "The Incredible Mr. Limpet". I saw it as a child, on TV, probably 10 years after it came out. For it's time, mixing animation with live-action, it was pretty good. Was it Shakespeare? No, but none of Don's work is ("The Ghost and Mr. Chicken", "The Reluctant Astronaut", etc.,.).

I understand that there are less than 100 of them left in the U.S. and two of them are in my town of less than 40,000 people. Now they dont sit in the cars anymore. They get lawn chairs and sit outside.

Do they get the sound from the speaker boxes still, or is it through the radio/stereo as these here are?

The sound quality is much better, but the drive-in losses just a touch of it's old time charm without those boxes.

my grandmother lived in south county stl and had a tall pine tree in her front yard. lived about a half mile from a drive in theater. after dark, me and my cousin would climb to the top of the tree and watch all night hoping to see some skin.

There are over 500 Drive Ins operating in the United States, and over 3000+ closed units. Sad, but the comfort level of Americans is so important they couldn't survive between this and the studio costs in the ticket share. But if you have one near you , GO, and support our heritage.

Mr Limpet just washed up dead in a Louisiana marsh soaked in oil.

kysirsoze 06-20-2010 01:04 PM

I went to a drive in for the first time a little while back and saw Zombieland. I really enjoyed it, even though I got stuck in the back seat. People really got into it. There was cheering and shouting back but it wasn't annoying like it would be in a theater. It's also easier to sneak in a handle of Jack Daniels.

gblowfish 06-20-2010 04:01 PM

No more Mr. Limpet since Viagra.

listopencil 06-20-2010 05:29 PM

I saw it on TV, enjoyed it thoroughly as a kid. If it were on right now I'd watch it with my kids. Shit, I might have to go get a copy now that I think about it.

The interaction between him and the crab (who kind of reminds me of Skip) ROFL and of course that ridiculous thunder cough that fish had...and lol at the nazis being terrified of a Don Knots looking fish.
