Rodney Harrison praises Berry

http://www.arrowheadpride.com/2010/7...iefs#storyjump

Quote:

"Let me say this. Everyone always talked about me being a hitter and I look at the kid, Eric Berry, and I love this kid. I thought he was the best defensive player in college football. I thought he should have went number one. I know Suh is big and all this but I love Eric Berry. People say, 'Maybe you're a little biased.' No, this kid is phenomenal.

"I'm so excited about this kid because I think he embodies everything about a safety. He's strong, fast, athletic and will knock your teeth out. I love this kid. This is a kid that can be a tremendous football player for 12-15 years.

"I talked to Scott Pioli about possibly coming up to the Chiefs camp and possibly spending some time with this kid. I want to spend some time with this kid some of the keys and secrets of not only being in the league for a long time-- because anyone can be in the league with that type of talent a long time but the key is really making an impact. How can you make others better? It's not just about you, Eric Berry, because you're a tremendous player but how can you, as a young player, make other people better? That's where he's really going to make his mark.

"The great thing with Eric Berry is they're going to use him kind of like they used me. He's younger, faster and more athletic than what I was in '03 but I was in my prime back then. They're going to blitz him, he's going to cover tight ends, he's going to play center field, he's going to play half the field, he's going to play three-deep and come in the box. That's the versatility you get with a guy like that. He's going to play cornerback and in the slot sometimes covering receivers.

"That's the versatility you get with a guy like Eric Berry and not just having a guy like Suh that's going to clog up the middle. I like a guy like Eric Berry because he can do so many different things. He's versatile. That's why I'm excited about him.

"Romeo Crennel is going to blitz this guy and I wouldn't be surprised if he passed my 30.5 sacks in his career."

Hearing that gets me all warm in the naughty bits!! Bring on training camp already!!

Excellent.

So Eric Berry will get a lesson on the "Epic Cheap Shot". I hope Phillip Rivers was watching.....there is a torn ACL on it's way.

Rain Man 07-16-2010 09:17 AM

And then Rodney Harrison hit Eric Berry in the side of the knee.

CaliforniaChief 07-16-2010 09:19 AM

I think Jon Asamoah could be the greatest interior lineman in NFL history. So I called Scott Pioli and asked if I could spend some time with him. I'm still on hold./Tim Grunhard

Nixhex 07-16-2010 09:20 AM

Rodney was a dirty player but I'm all for him talking to Berry. Dude knows his stuff.

Harrison certainly sounds optimistic about Berry and his abilities. This is good... very, very good! :D

Love hearing this stuff. Wouldn't it be nice if he does turn out to be the next Reed/Polamolu !!!!!

Goldmember 07-16-2010 09:33 AM

Yeah, well, don't get too much of a hard on, he also said this,

"I think Cassel's a terrific quarterback. I think he's going to be a lot more comfortable this year and he's going to play well but I think next year is really the year that will get them over the hump."

Yep. still on Pioli's payroll.

PunkinDrublic 07-16-2010 10:31 AM

I may in the minority on this but I always liked Harrison as a player. You don't play that position for as long as he did without having some serious skills. Harrison may have taken some cheap shots at times but to me a safety is supposed to be an intimidator in the secondary. This is high praise from someone who I think is one of the best to ever play the position.

boogblaster 07-16-2010 10:55 AM

eric will know ,, late hit .. helmet to helmet .. low blow .. early contact and on field crying ...

Eh.

That's just Rodney being nice. And professional. Knocking Cassel would be a knock on Pioli, since Cassel's HIS guy.

Kinda like when you're out at a bar, and you meet a good looking woman. But she's with a real ****ing troll friend. You're nice to the troll, because you want to get in the pants of the hottie.

So, to sum up:

Rodney: Out at bar

Berry: Hottie

Cassel: Troll

when did rodney lay this on you?

or are you just assuming again?

i mean they DID play in NE together, so maybe rodney ACTUALLY , gasp, thinks he is a good player.

Chiefaholic 07-16-2010 02:00 PM

You can call Harrison whatever you want. But, he's one of the top 5 safties to play the game during the last decade. His reputation for taking cheap shots shadows the fact that he was a damn fine player with ball hawking skills that a very small percentage of guys had. Opposing offenses had to game plan for him and WR's feared going over the middle because they knew Rodney was going to drive straight through them if possible. Unlike Jared Page, Harrison took the right angle and took the opponent off his feet when making a tackle. I'de love Rodney to come to camp and teach Berry some tricks of the trade.

It's called my opinion, Jason. Didn't know I needed confirmation from Rodney himself to post my opinion.

Very rarely do you hear a player talk shit about another player's on field ability. And you can see right through a lot of those comments.

It's like when you hear the guy being interviewed and they ask about the upcoming opponent - it doesn't matter if it's the defending world champs or Detroit, they all basically say the same thing.

"Yeah, uh, Detroit's got a really good team over there, man. We really respect those guys and we know they are really going to give us a fight."

It's bullshit, and everyone knows it.

Not really contributing a whole lot here, but watching Berry play in college i'd already say he was sort of a dirty player

Not at all. I'm just sick and ****ing tired of Jason following me around claiming he knows my intentions/thoughts of MY posts.

He knows goddamn good and well that I don't personally know Rodney Harrison, therefore, I presented my opinion on the matter. Because that's what this place is for. Presenting and discussing opinions.

The problem is when someone like Jason has a preconceived notion in his head when certain people post. He's the shit stirrer, not me.

I'm still waiting for him to tell me how, "that's just Rodney being nice" was presented as absolute fact, and not opinion.

Notice he didn't bother to respond to my Detroit analogy - because he knows he has no defense for it - it happens all the time.

Was that the case here? Can't say for sure.

But IN MY OPINION (is that better, do I need to qualify everything I post?) Rodney is doing what most pro athletes do when asked about another player - be respectful, even if it's bullshit.

The Franchise 07-16-2010 04:29 PM

I'm pretty sure that everything I post on here is "MY OPINION" unless I state otherwise.

Please cite all examples in which an ex-teammate turned analyst said anything remotely negative about someone's play on the field, or future.

I'm not talking the objective, "Player X had a bad game" or, "Player X made a poor decision there" type comments.

I'm talking about being asked about a player and responding, "that guy sucks" or, "that guy doesn't belong in the league" or, that guy has no future in the NFL."

Hell, 99% of current players and ex-players turned analysts won't even make the "Player X had a bad game" type comments.

Nothing like ignoring the ****ing dictionary.

And you might want to check with those people to gather THEIR opinion. If all three of them think I'm full of shit regarding your constant nitpicking and Ms. Cleo imitations, MAYBE then you can start to consider having the grounds to call your opinion fact.

Otherwise, yours is just another opinion. Not right, not wrong.

And how do you suggest Harrison proving me wrong?

Saying it again?

You can tell me OJ Simpson didn't behead two people in 1994. A court of law even said he didn't.

That doesn't make it fact, and it's my OPINION that he did murder two people.

Read the definition of "opinion" until it sinks the **** in.

Read the definition of "opinion" until it sinks the **** in.

i can guarantee you dane would tell you that you are off base about me and him.

i would bet hamas would say the same about me and him.

mecca would probably agree with you, but thats because he thinks that if he believes it its true too.

and yeah lets just not believe harrison.

If by, "I did quit there," you mean, "I posted 12 more times after that post," then sure, you quit.

Only someone who's dumb enough to argue that an opinion can be proven wrong would have continued.

You did, and you came off like an idiot.

Then when confronted with a similar scenario - you saying that Whitlock is a ****ing liar regarding the details of his dinner with Pioli - you go full reerun and try to deflect.

Typical. Not sure why I'm surprised.

Have a good night.

we should have drafted oklunker....

Ask Trent Green what a good guy Rodney Harrison is.
If we want him to tutor Berry, we might as well bring Jack Tatum in to teach him how to hit guys on crossing patterns.

Harrison was a blight on the NFL. Good riddance.

Harrision genuinely likes Cassel. He said a year ago that if he was looking for a QB, he would have gone after Cassel. He said he would much rather have Cassel than Brett Favre. This came as he ripped Favre a new asshole, calling him selfish, saying that he blames everyone around him when things go bad, and claiming that other NFL players are sick of him.

He has also called TO a clown. While Michael Crabtree held out last year, Harrision called him the biggest idiot he\'s ever seen. He has been pretty brutal during the NBC games, even saying last year that Tom Brady needed to take his skirt off. He ripped the NFL itself for their overprotective rules. Then the Favre thing I mentioned.

He isnt a guy who bullshits. But he also doesnt have a track record to see if his opinion means much of anything.
