Cowboys, Bryant agree on 5-year deal

The Dallas Cowboys announced they agreed to terms with first-round pick Dez Bryant on Thursday.

<!-- end inline 1 -->The deal is for five years and $11.8 million, with $8.5 million guaranteed. Bryant's agent, Eugene Parker, said some of the language of the contract is still being worked out.

Bryant, the 24th pick of the draft, is expected to report on time for Cowboys training camp on Saturday in San Antonio.

Bryant, who was unavailable for comment, becomes the first first-round pick to agree to a contract, coming to terms before St. Louis Rams quarterback Sam Bradford, the No. 1 overall pick.

Dallas traded up three spots in April to get Bryant with the 24th overall pick. He was an All-American in 2008 at Oklahoma State when he had 87 receptions for 1,480 yards and 19 touchdowns.

But Bryant missed most of last season after his suspension for lying to the NCAA about his activities with former NFL star Deion Sanders.

The Bryant deal is a relief for the Cowboys because there was speculation he would not make it into camp on time. Parker, Bryant's agent, had worked deals with previous Cowboys first-round selections Mike Jenkins and Felix Jones, who reported late.

Bryant had said over the summer that he expected to report to camp when it started.

The only draft pick yet to agree with the Cowboys is second-rounder Sean Lee, a linebacker from Penn State.

I'm too lazy to to look....how does this compare to the deal of pick #24 last year?

Less overall money but slightly more guaranteed.

Peria Jerry, DT, Atlanta:

5 years, $13.25M, $7.5M guaranteed.

I've been pretty harsh on Bryant, but this is a smart move on his part.

He could have waited until the market was determined around him, and missed a good chunk of camp.

Instead, he makes a fair deal and gets to ****ing work.

If Eric Berry is serious about not missing any of camp, he'll do the same.

And the odds of the 5th overall pick doing this a year before possible labor problems...slim and none.

Crush-

Post that link again. You had the right information.

Mine was based on max incentives.

My mistake.

Which is reeruned.

Give him Sanchez' contract from last year plus 10% and be done with it.

That's more than fair, considering that spot was inflated last year because of the position.

If he wants to miss camp, then by all means, wait for everyone around you to sign instead of being proactive and getting to ****ing work.

This should speed up the talks with Demaryius Thomas and Tim Tebow

I'm all for Berry getting into camp on time, but not at the expense of getting a fair deal.

He doesn't owe that to the Chiefs.
No player does.

If 5/55/33 isn't a "fair" enough deal, then he's not the character guy I thought he was.

That's basically what Tyson Jackson got last year at 3.

Less per year but more guaranteed.

He has the same agent Haynesworth does, not sure what to make of that.

That this will drag out at least until #4 and #6 sign?

If a person happened to be walking down the street one day (just minding their own business and thinking about nothing in particular) when suddenly, out of the blue, with absolutely no warning and no immediately obvious reason, was captured by Homeland Security personnel, thrown in the back of a black van, and forced to choose between being locked in a room with; A) 2 diseased, sex-starved chimpanzees trained by the Military as black-op ninjas and super hairy assassins or B) 4 drunken Moe Howard clones, that would be a very difficult choice to make, I think.

Jeff Ireland: What's the difference between you and a mallard with a cold?

Dez Bryant: I don't know, what?

Jeff Ireland: One's a sick duck and I can't remember how it ends, but your mother's a whore.

Sofa King 07-23-2010 07:35 AM

I actually figured Bryant would hold out and be one of the last to sign.

Did you see the follow up to that fiasco? I think the way it came about wasn't nearly as bad as Mr. Bryant made it out to be. It was basically like this...

Ireland: What does your dad do for a living?

Bryant: He is a pimp.

Ireland: What does your mom do for a living?

Bryant: She works for my dad?

Ireland: Your mom is a prostitute?

That is what Ireland came out and said and nobody disputed it. I don't think that conversation makes Ireland a bad guy.
