Gaz would love this thread.

FTR, I don't mind it so much myself.

WoodDraw 07-30-2010 09:10 PM

I still wish they'd bring everyone back for a movie. Or that Joss would create something else in the universe.

The problem, like all Whedon shows, is that everyone loves them but **** all watch them.

Wifes favorite series, bought her all the seasons.
Nice eye candy in the show :D
Buffy, Faith, Anya, Cordelia

I always thought Alyson Hannigan was cute too. I'm sure I'll be in the minority on that one.

Is that the one that was kind of a mix between a Western and Sci Fi? Because that show sucked huge amounts of ass. No one watched it because it was a steaming pile of shit.

Heh. It was horrible. I tried to watch it, but the writing was miserable and the actors did a poor job with weak scripts. It was just plain horrible.

Compared to some shows that weren't canceled after 10 or 11 episodes?

Really? Back when the show was running, a few friends told me she was definately NOT hot. I thought maybe I was alone in my viper-slayer/band camp lust. Guess not. Good to know.

So what do you watch?

JD10367 07-31-2010 02:29 AM

As a show, "Buffy" was one of the best. Even "Angel" was enerertaining after season one.

As for the chicks, ALL of Whedon's women have alluring qualities. Even the freaky ones like Juliet Landau. Alyson Hannigan is on my "To Do" list. At the time, so was Robia La Morte (Jenny Calendar), although I don't know how she's aged. Even the bit parts were humpable (Darla, Glory, Anya, Tara, Harmony, the chick who played Willow's new g/f in the final season). And Michelle Trachtenberg grew up VERY nicely.

Even his other shows have nice chicks. "Firefly" had a female cast I'd gladly jello-wrestle with.

Have you seen How I Met Your Mother?

Deberg_1990 07-31-2010 07:59 AM

Its nice to see Whedon get the Avengers gig after a few undeserving Tv show failures.

The Bad Guy 07-31-2010 08:42 AM

My wife must watch this show at least 3 hours a day. It's clogging up the DVRs.

Hmm. "**** all" means nothing, no one, zero. Probably more towards the nothing side than no one. I guess I picked it up staying in London. Kind of like "not shit" or "absolute shit".

What have you done this saturday? Not shit/**** all.

Ultra Peanut 07-31-2010 09:01 PM

Vampire Xander. *swoon*

... er, come to think of it, my boyfriend is kinda similar to Xander, at least inasmuch as they're both young Bruce Campbell-types. Dear Buffy thread, does this mean I have to be afraid of rabbits now?

Yeah, we don't say that here.

Also, to be fair, Dollhouse was pretty bad. Wish the whole series could've been like the 13th episode that was a DVD bonus, because that was truly good TV.

Apparently. Not like it takes a cryptographer to figure it out the meaning though.

I liked Dollhouse, but some of the episodes were shit. Epitaph one was fantastic, as were most of the other episodes that dealt with the mythology instead of Echo being whored out.

This is p much how I feel about the show when I say it's "pretty bad." It had really good moments but totally failed to capitalize on them most of the time.

WoodDraw 07-31-2010 11:05 PM

I wonder how much of that was brought on by FOX and their desire to have stand alone episodes.

She deffinantly got better looking at the end of the series

Well, in her defense, she WAS a 23-year-old made up to play a wallflower 10th grader. They downdressed her and sparingly applied the makeup. By the end of the show, she was 29 and playing a lesbian witch on her second girlfriend, and she was dressed and made up a lot different.

The first hint of her attractiveness was the episode where she dressed up for Halloween as a slut wearing a ghost sheet (the episode where the costumes became real). Next hint came with "doppleganger Willow" where she doubled as a leather-clad vampire.

She's now 36. Yes, please, I'll take one of those, waiter. :hump:

Simply Red 08-01-2010 07:20 AM

Just to let you know, she had a home right next door to our old neighborhood, when i was married to that tramp. She lived there at least PART of the year, she was my neighbor's patient, He was an eye doctor.

vailpass 08-01-2010 02:22 PM

Used to like Buffy. I read it is a big hit with dykes, it is featured on the phag/lesbian channel on DirecTV.
Who would'a thunk it? Buffy is the WNBA of tv shows.

This is the worst and dumbest opinion I've read on here in some time. Maybe ever. Just awful. :shake:

Discuss Thrower 08-02-2010 02:57 PM

I've seen more of Angel than I have of Buffy, and all of Firefly so it's safe to say I enjoy the shows. If you haven't seen any of these but you think you might watch them at some point, then skip ahead because I'm about to spoil your fun.

What irks me is Whedon seems to have a thing for killing off / harming his male characters that some dudes might identify with. See: Xander in Buffy's last season, Doyle, Wesley, and perhaps Lindsey in Angel, and Wash in the Firefly movie. The only thing I can imagine it to be a part of his feminist leanings, though I've forgotten my reasoning why he makes a point to this. Maybe it's because he himself identifies with his female characters than their opposites. Or he just chooses to sacrifice the men for dramatic effect. Maybe college has trained me to over analyze, I dunno. But to me it seems like Whedon has it out for his stable of Everymen.

All of that aside, I think the 1st and 2nd season of Angel are a good example of well-done dramatic television. The standalone episode where Angel becomes human again is a great example of such. Angel's vampirism is gone, he can (and does) hook-up with Buffy now that his curse has been lifted and all is happy, but then Angel has to give it up and go back in time to stop his "healing" so he can at least partially make sure his love won't be killed, and to cap it off Buffy doesn't remember their last happy day together and leaves the episode practically despising Angel? That's rough shit man. The stand-alone-ish example of this is Season 2 is 1950s flashback ep where Angel tries to root out the demon that feeds on paranoia in the Hyperion Hotel, but is betrayed by a woman he tries to help and decides to give up on his efforts of doing good is pretty dramatic as well, especially at the end where he realizes the woman was still alive after 50 years of isolation in the hotel. Whedon's skill at story-arcs is showcased in the 2nd Season, when Darla is brought back to human form but dying of Syphilis, and it culminates with Angel promising to stay with her until the end when she's kidnapped by Wolfram and Hart agents and remade into a vampire is pretty shocking and painful as well.

Anyway, it's obvious to see that I like the show for its dramatics, not necessarily for the action and the beautiful women... Though I'd still die for a chance with an Allyson Hannigan / Amy Acker / Morena Baccarin.

A slanted viewpoint to justify your theory. You forgot to mention...

He offed Willow's girlfriend Tara.
He offed Xander's girlfriend Anya.
He offed Cordelia after she moved to "Angel".
He offed Buffy's mom with a brain tumor.
He offed the third slayer (that hot Spanishy looking chick).
He offed Darla, then brought her back in "Angel", then offed her again.
He offed a bunch of Slayerettes at the end of the show.
Hell, he even offed Buffy herself. Twice. (End of Season 1, end of Season 5.)

Methinks Joss just likes to kill people in general.

JD10367 08-02-2010 03:47 PM

And it's a shame that Joss didn't get Emmy nods for either "Hush" or "Once More With Feeling", two outstanding "Buffy" episodes.

And the "puppet Angel" episode of that series was hilarious.
