Why all the hate for Jason kendall??

Dude is a professional. Realize that he is not an all-star, but kind of like his play. Was at the game last night. I have watched a lot worse play from our catchers. Don't bring the "John Buck is an all star" ^%$#. Don't wanna hear it. He never did it hear, and all of you fools would have been glad to get rid of him and Olive Oil.

Pasta Little Brioni 07-31-2010 07:04 PM

Sorry dude and this is coming from a non Royal fan. This guy should not be starting for a major league team at this point in his career much less spending a ton of time in the 2 hole.

SnakeXJones 07-31-2010 07:13 PM

I dont hate the guy he gives it all he got on gameday but should be in a platoon role though

JoeyChuckles 07-31-2010 07:14 PM

Olivo was good enough. Why did we get rid of him?

Well...uhh...it was a really bad move. Kendall isn't even great on the defensive end. He may be a little better than Olivo in that department, but what is that good for? Maybe 3-5 runs a year?

They could have got Buck cheaper than Kendall. Look at the year he's having, not too bad. Look at the year Olivo is having. And how many at bats will Kendall go w/out a home run? He may never hit a HR again in his MLB career. Terrible, terrible move by DM.

Really? There is no catcher playing regularly in the MLB that you should "get rid of" for passed balls. Passed balls happen, and Olivo is bad w/ passed balls, but how many runs does that really effect in the grand scheme of things?

BillSelfsTrophycase 07-31-2010 07:22 PM

I don't think anybody really hates Kendall, they hate the fact that the Royals start him

Every

Single

Day

And batting him second to boot.

Bat at that. I hope you did that on purpose. Did you watch the game tonight. Kendalll started the rally. We could do a lot worse. We have a lot of holes to fill, and I am not worried about catcher until we fix a lot of other holes.

This. He has no business starting EVERY game nor batting in the #2 spot with his half-swing self.

Kendall sucks more than the alternatives. Bottom line.

Not this year. Olivo is having a lights out year hitting .306 with 13 HR's and 49 RBI's. Plus he's throwing out over 50% of base stealers.

Demonpenz 07-31-2010 07:51 PM

passed balls in the thin Air of Colorado has always been in the bottom third of the league. The breaking balls don't have the tilt they do in the midwest

alanm 07-31-2010 07:56 PM

Ok I looked it up Olivo has 7 PB's to his credit and Kendall has 4.
Not that much of a difference IMO.

Whaaaaaaaaaat. ;)

Demonpenz 07-31-2010 07:58 PM

The K has always been tough on catchers trying to block balls, with our famous Kansas City dirt Kendall has saved 10 balls that the UziFi reports on espn.com says that Olivo wouldn't have blocked

Otter 07-31-2010 08:09 PM

When I was in college PITT Kendell was the catcher on the Pirates. We went to a lot of in my time there and he's probably the only player I remember. Great blue collar, give it all everyday type of player.

I remember he broke his ankle really bad when running into 1st base (think it was 1st) and don't think he's been of the same caliber since.

Demonpenz 07-31-2010 08:11 PM

he broke his ankel and his bone went through his skin and sock

He's doing pretty well in my MVP Baseball 2005 dynasty, but then that's 2005 and also a video game.

I never said they were good options. Just better than Kendall. I can count on the other 3 at least taking a full swing at the ball and maybe even hitting one to the wall.

Vette on Route 66 07-31-2010 08:54 PM

Kendall had his day in the sun (1996-2000). If one recalls, he was an All-Star as early as his rookie season.

He has been a sub par offensive catcher since 2004, but his value deteriorated even further when his on-base percentage plummeted starting in 2008.

Mecca 07-31-2010 08:57 PM

I think they should look into developing Gordon as a 2, he takes a lot of pitches, even with his shitty average his OBP is usually pretty solid.

And why do people hate Kendall, when you let both your catchers go and sign a guy worse than both of them, it happens.

DeezNutz 07-31-2010 09:10 PM

Why?

1. He sucks.
2. We signed him to a multi-year deal worth more money, when there were better, and cheaper, available options.
3. He sucks.
4. He's been tremendously overexposed by our management.

Demonpenz 07-31-2010 09:12 PM

And Kendall has thrown at least 327 balls into center field on stolen bases. I haven't checked Olivo's stats on that, but I'm sure he's faring better.

Coors isn't a hitters ball park anymore. Not since they keep balls in a humidor for 30 days before their used in games. Whatever Olivo's poor hitting on the road is it's probably mental.
I'd still have kept him over bringing in Kendall.

I get to watch the Rockies every night since the Royals are blacked out where I live in every way possible.:cuss: Olivo looks like a totally different player than when he was with the Royals. He should of made the All Star team.
Can you imagine how Moore would of felt then? Olivo and Buck being All Stars?

T-post Tom 08-01-2010 01:44 AM

How bout those t-bones?

Archie F. Swin 08-01-2010 07:16 AM

I like Kendall. Kind a of a blast from the past with his old-timey batting stance and no batting gloves. It was kind of embarrassing though when I went to Arlington, TX and the Rangers were running on him like he was a member of the Chiefs secondary.

Bullshit!

According to ESPN's park factors, Coors Field is the most offensive friendly ballpark in baseball this year.

I was watching MLB Network one night and Eric Byrnes said something along the lines of Kendall being the most feared hitter in the league with a man on 3rd and less than 2 outs ROFL

Kendall has hit more liners that have been caught in the outfield because everyone plays so shallow on him. It reminds me of how little leaguers play the opposing right fielder.

Bummer. To me it seems like batting Kendall 2nd in the AL would be like an NL team hitting the pitcher 2nd :D

He is the easiest strikeout bitch I have ever pitched to in mlb2k10.

MoreLemonPledge 08-01-2010 04:09 PM

Not sure if it's still true, but he was at one point in the season allowing the most stolen bases in the majors.

Sure-Oz 08-01-2010 04:10 PM

I barely hit .290 with him in mlb the show 10 and hit only 1 hr and had 50 rbis, yeah he sucks in real life and in video games
