Chargers 3rd Round pick Butler likely out for season

CHARGERS: Butler likely out for season with injury

BY SCOTT BAIR - [email protected]

SAN DIEGO -- Inside linebacker Donald Butler, the Chargers' third-round pick in 2010, is likely done for the season due to an Achilles' tendon injury suffered in Tuesday afternoon's practice.

BroncosFan15 08-04-2010 01:46 PM

Sucks for them, good for us and you guys and the team up north. Wish him a quick recovery

Rooster 08-04-2010 01:46 PM

Damn. The injury bug is out in full force this year.:tinfoil:

Quesadilla Joe 08-04-2010 01:50 PM

I also heard that Buster Davis was carted off the field at Chargers camp.

Sucks about Butler, but he was 5th round potential chosen in the 3rd round. I wasn't exactly expecting a lot out of him this season except for Special Teams. I would still rather he wasn't injured, but I think we'll "manage" without him.

I put "manage" because our defense is balls.

I'm just glad Norv Turner is the HC. It really won't matter if anybodys injured or not.

Gadzooks 08-04-2010 05:05 PM

The Sporting News had him as the #1 ILB prospect prior to the draft, (but they also had Crompton as the #2 QB).
Sucks when an Achilles tear happens to a rookie but we're still 3 deep at every position!!!11!! FTW!!!!!!1111!11!!1!!!!@!`
See you guys opening day.

KCrockaholic 08-04-2010 06:32 PM

Butler would be been a decent ILB this year. I wanted the Chiefs to take him in the 3rd. I'm happy with Asamoah and Moeaki, but that sucks for SD's ILB situation.

Norvel doesn't exactly inspire confidence, and holdouts and injuries have these guys coming back to the pack, but they're still the best in the division.

Your safeties suck, your ILB's suck, Jammer is the only good corner you have, Castillo is pretty good but he is overrated and nobody else on your DL is that good, and Malcom Floyd is not a #1 WR and if VJ holds out all season you are in a world of hurt at WR.

:( I normally don't give a shit about rival teams injuries, but Donald Butler is a former Husky. Sad to see it happen to him.

See that guy Phillip Rivers? He alone makes the Chargers the best team in this division.

Like the Chargers are some dynasty or something. They peaked two years ago and the Broncos are very close to taking over this division for the long haul.

The Broncos are the worst team in the ****ing division, the Broncos are the Bills it's just you haven't realized it yet.

And shocker, I know, Knownothing was wrong again. Buster wasnt hurt or carted off; Butler was carted off.

Mecca was one of those people last year who thought that Denver made the biggest mistake ever in trading Cutler. He thought Denver would be picking in the top 5 and that Kyle Orton would be a disaster in Denver.

Well Mecca was wrong about that. Cutler never was any good, and more than likely never will be.

With that said, what Denver has done since the departure of Cutler has been ass.

But I smell a giant Knowshit meltdown coming soon. I figure that is why you had that childish out burst a couple post ago in this thread.

Mecca 08-04-2010 11:22 PM

Trading Cutler is still a huge mistake, just like drafting Moreno and Ayers and Alphonso Smith was ****ing stupid too...just like trading Brandon Marshall then drafting a WR who's upside is Marshall while he's 4 years from it...then drafting Tim **** Tebow.

The Broncos are ****ing reeruns end of story.

Trading a first round pick for Alphonso Smith was stupid but the rest of those decisions weren't. In hindsight I would have taken Clay Mathews or Cushing over Robert Ayers at 18 but Ayers still has a long career ahead of him.

The Broncos were not comfortable giving Brandon Marshall the richest WR contract in NFL history. I don't blame them. I like the core Denver has now on offense with Tebow/Moreno/Thomas/Royal/Decker. That could be like the Colts with Manning/Edge/Harrison/Wayne/Stokely.

Quesadilla Joe 08-04-2010 11:30 PM

Mecca you know for a fact that you would trade Denver's drafts the past two years straight up for what the Chiefs did.

The Broncos are a worse less talented team today than they were the day McDaniels took over, that's all that needs to be said.

We lost Cutler and Marshall and got Orton/Tebow/Moreno/Ayers/Alphonso Smith/ Demaryius Thomas/ Eric Decker out of it and we still have a second round pick to burn from the Marshall trade.

I loved Shanahan but did you see the defenses he trotted out there for his last 2 1/2 years in Denver? Did you see how quickly McDaniels turned that defense around? And the reports coming out of camp is that the defense should be even better this year.

Denver went from 29th to 7th in one offseason. Pretty impressive, especially when you consider that Shanahan hadn't fielded a top 10 defense since 2004.

Well I'm sure you enjoyed your first 6 weeks of the season when your defense was the 85 Bears. But then reality came back, and proved that your defense was nothing. And don't even credit any of the defensive success to McDaniels, when you damn well know Mike Nolan was fully responsible for giving you guys a solid base 3-4 for a few weeks. Well then he ran out of tricks, and you guys were once again the Donks that finished the season 2-8.

Nolan was let go by McDaniels. The slide came because we didn't have a lot of depth on the DL. This year that shouldn't be a problem because all of the starters from the DL last year are now backups.

Why start rookies if they aren't the best players at their position. Throwing rookies out there who aren't ready ruins careers, see Dorsey, Glenn... Jackson, Tyson... and probably Berry, Eric.

The defense for 10 games in 2009 was every bit as bad as they were in 2007 and 2008. Let's not get too caught up in the magic of the first 6 for that side of the ball.

And, I'm all for you being a flag waving fan, but c'mon... none of those guys above has done anything yet. You're setting yourself up for unrealistic expectations this season and you're not going to enjoy the games as much.

I'm learned over time to temper my enthusiasm a bit... no matter what things look like.

Uhhh, yes he was. Every single draftnik had him going in the 5th round. The Chargers were given a D for their 3rd round pick and Butler was the slowest player outside of lineman taken in the 3rd round.

They liked that he has great instinct, but the Chargers always pick players before they are projected to be taken just to ensure they get them (Ryan Mathews, Donald Butler, Antoine Cason, Eric Weddle).
