Their business is about to go up 10 fold
|
That doesn't look good...
|
Take out the hamburgers and I'd eat it.

I'm sick of that fat bastard stuffing his face for "entertainment value." No wonder starving 3rd world countries hate us so much.

no kidding...better then the average cooking show... |
I just ate at the giant breakfast burrito place in Denver that he visited. I got the regular sized burrito and it was damn tasty. Those shows never steer me wrong.

Supposedly ok joes will be shown as well
|
I will pass on that sandwich but thanks anyway.
|
Just what the hell is white bread doing on any show airing on Food Network?

So... anyone ever been to Poppa Bob's?
I thought someone would have. Maybe it's just the only place with a challenge? |
Bonner Springs in my hometown baby!!! its right off of k32 right across from a couple bars

that looks ****ing disgusting. like a kid playing with dominos just trying to stack shit up.

Except in this case. Using 3 layers of white bread just for support is disgusting. It looks like a child tried to make the highest sandwhich he could, pile a lop of shit on it just because and called it a sandwhich. |
Man v Food is one of my favorite shows. After his Atlanta episode we went to Big Pie In The Sky and had a 30" pizza. It was great! Plus, one pizza will feed 8 hungry adults for $35 so it is a great place to go with a group.

The best meal I've seen him down was when he was in Anchorage, AK and he finished the eating challenge at Humpy's. Alaskan crab legs, crab cakes, salmon fillet. The worst part was I watching it at like 2am and everything was closed. My favorite episodes so far have been Anchorage and New York City. Fried carp?!?!? WTF! |
I love MvF, but that challenge is just stupid.
Agreed on the white bread - and no one's going to be able to eat that thing. |
I work just down street and eat at Papa Bobs all the time. I always eat the destroyer mini, mini version of ultimate destroyer and I can rarely eat all of it. This rules for this challenge crack me up, if u puke u have to clean up own mess, etc. There BBQ sauce is really, really good my new favorite in town! I don't think anyone has ever accomplished this challenge.
|
This is one of my favorite shows as well. Makes me incredibly hungry for some good food. And yes he did go to Oklahoma Joes, not sure the other place he went to...
|
That sandwich was just a bunch of white bread.
Let's see: 1/2 lb of pulled pork, smoked pork, ham, turkey, brisket and sausage. So that's 3 lbs of meat, plus 3 1/2 lb burgers = 4.5 lbs of meat, plus all the bread, plus 1.5 lbs of french fries. So let's say 6.5 lbs total. Nobody should eat 6.5 lbs of ANYTHING in one sitting. That's just stupid. |
I would replace the turkey with bacon to keep the piggy theme of the samich.
|
how much is that sammich? JFC..gotta be like $30.
It's almost like this guy came up with a big 'sandwich' after teh MvF craze |
Quote:
|
smoked burgers are nasty.
|
I wonder if the meat they use for sammiches is as nasty/dry/taste like lunchmeat with a little smoke, as 90% of the places around KC that serve bbq sammiches.
|
I'll never forget the challenge where he downed a 6-pound milkshake and a 1.5-pound deli sandwich.
|
I've seen a few of those shows where I thought "no way he'll finish"....then he does.
I don't see how people could eat that much w/out throwing up. |

Eat everything that’s on the pretty plate in 45 minutes or less, and it’s free. But if you can’t, you’ll always pay Papa Bob’s $48 for the “Ultimate Destroyer” and get to take the rest of it home. Come to think about it, you’ll pay for it either way. If you succeed, you’ll get your picture on the Papa Bob’s Wall of Fame (or in some cases Wall of Shame,) an “I survived the Ultimate Destroyer” button, and a great big “Attaboy” or “Attagirl.” The Rules
|
I figured it would be a 'win' for Papa. Get people to come in and drop $50 to 'try' to finish it. Good way to boost sales, I would think(?)
..I was way off in my $30 guess. lol |

chalk it up to bad experiences with BBQ sammiches. I know good ones are out there...I've just gotta find them. |

Indeed. I need to search old threads to see if there is a BBQ sammich thread. I seriously don't know where to find a good one.:banghead: |

OK Joes - long time ago, but remember a big onion ring on top; it was damn good. Probably the best that I can recall. would definitely go back. Zarda - average at best. this is where i got the 'tastes like lunch meat' comment. My brother mentioned that, and it sort of stuck in my head. Fried mushrooms were the best part of the meal. Dont' care to go back if I can help it. Gates - brisket and ham. it was 'ok'. AGain, I guess I had built up some hype in my head. Ive only eaten there twice in 10 years; the first about 8 years ago; the 2nd about 3 months ago. brisket was dry, chewy; wasn't all the big compared to the price etc. Fries were good. Don't care to go back unless I should try something else. Bee Cee's - hole in the wall off Blue Ridge and 470. used to get it all the time whe I lived in Grandview. Good sized sammich; good prices; meat was always good. Not sure if they're even there any more. K & M - ...but a LONG time ago...can't really remember it. remeber getting something with the word "Killer" in the name. I'd go back. Brobecks' - right across from where we moved to. it's average at best. same deal as gates; dry brisket, chewy; reminded me of lunchmeat (turkey/ham). but decent price I suppose. ......those are about the only ones that stick out. I'm sure there are a ton I've never been to/heard of. I like the hole in the wall joints. |
Quote:
"90% lunchmeat" based off of Zarda's and Brokecks is beyond me. Do you know that the KC area has 90-100 BBQ places open at any given time? Two lunchmeat places is not 90%, it is 2%. You've been to the incredible OK Joe's and L.C.'s. Go back. Also consult this list (http://economy.kansascity.com/?q=node/2070) and pick names at random. |

If you think the BBQ in KC is mediocre I would suggest driving down to Texas and trying their BBQ. When you return you will have a whole new respect for Kansas City BBQ.

The dumbest thing about that challenge is the 45 min time limit. It basically makes it impossible. There are 6.5 lbs of food in the challenge. 45/6.5 = 7 min per each lb of food. Honestly, it should have like a two hour time limit. It seems like the dude wanted to make it impossible....meh...I guess he succeeded. I don't see many people even trying it because it is obviously not possible by anyone except maybe Joey Chestnut.
|
i eat zarda pulled pork is pretty good. Ok joes...the best..around no ones ever going to let you down (sweep the leg)

that "challenge" is complete BS. if no one has ever completed it, it shouldn't be recognized as a legit "challenge", and it shouldn't be on a national TV show.
"Here's my $250,000 challenge - finish 27 pounds of burnt ends, 3 pounds of fries, 32 oz glass of gravy, and chug a handle of Jack" |

The one time I knew, without a doubt, he'd throw up was when he did the milkshake challenge in some St. Louis soda stand. He had to guzzle down a dozen milk shakes. The problem was, and he should have known this himself, is that he mixed 'em up with 12 different milkshakes. He probably would have finished them had he did 4 chocolates, 4 vanillas, and 4 strawberries or something like that. Instead, he guzzled some bizarre concoctions of various milk shake flavors and you could see the pain he was enduring. He looked at the camera and then ran out the back to puke like a drunken frat boy. Anyway, I saw the show and he gave KC some serious BBQ lovin' saying it was the best around. And you can tell he was really digging Stroud's. It was a good show. |
All that show accomplished was making me crave Stroud's. I haven't been there in forever.
|
That was a really good episode until they got to Poppa Bob's. That challenge is a complete ripoff. Take off the burgers at least. A pound and a half of burgers is pointless and makes the sandwhich even drier. It's clear Poppa Bob is just a money grubbing salesman. I can tell why I've never heard about the place and I've lived here my whole life.

I thought Oklahoma Joe's burnt ends stole the show. Those looked amazing.

I'm sure there are a few restaurants in the KC area that have a steak challenge, but it's possible he won't do steaks. I think I've only seen him do one steak challenge in all of his episodes. There could be a lot of reasons they picked out Papa Bob's that we don't know of. I bet he wanted to be the first to win the challenge, no matter how difficult and ridiculous it was. |
HAHAHA
I was watching a rerun yesterday and complaining that he went to Donkey Town. Turned it off and missed the KC episode. |

the only challenge presented to him that I ever thought to myself was utterly impossible was the recent steak challenge in Puerto Rico. I do not think that it was physically possible to complete it given the time limit.
