You know what's worth considering?

We have a ton of players with expiring contracts this year.

In addition to the Matt Cassel decision we'll be making at year's end, we're almost certainly losing Brodie Croyle.

Jamaal Charles will be a free agent. Priority A1.

We're also set to have absolutely nothing at center. Both Wiegmann and Niswanger are up.

We're also set to have absolutely nothing at nose tackle. Edwards, up. Smith, up.

Our entire starting linebacking corps is up for contract. Vrabel, DJ, Mays, Hali. That is a huge opportunity to revamp our defense.

Brandon Carr is worth resigning, and he's up.

Also, Mike Cox, Leonard Pope, O'Callaghan, Travis Daniels. Meh.

So this is a big, big year for us after the season. The best player on our offense is up for FA. And we have a chance to drastically remodel this team at QB, C, NT, and all LB positions.

In other words, we have a chance to make this a completely different team in 2011.

Rain Man 09-06-2010 06:27 PM

So you're saying we should draft some players? I agree. I think that's a good idea. I'd opt for perhaps one every round.

RedThat 09-06-2010 06:28 PM

the only guys they should really focus on resigning are: Carr, Charles, and Hali.

Other than that, meh

bevischief 09-06-2010 06:29 PM

We are doomed...

Pfft. You're going to fix all these holes with two high rounders, a couple midrounders, and a bunch of low-rounders?

What do you suggest?

1. QB
2. OLB
3. NT
4. C
5. ILB
6. NT
6 (Page?). QB
7. ILB

Think that'll do it, Sarcasmo?

Saccopoo 09-06-2010 06:40 PM

Sarcasmo. Funny.

Dinny Bossa Nova 09-06-2010 06:40 PM

I think there won't be football as we know it in 2011.

I believe teams FOs are preparing for this now.

Either that or Pioli is stupid, Haley is crazy and Matt Cassel can't throw a pass over 5 yards and is inaccurate as hell. And Weis and Crennell suck because they failed as head coaches and the Chiefs suck because they didn't draft a franchise quarterback and a nose tackle.

Does anybody know where I can get a Patrick Dennis jersey?

Dinny

So, with all of our players up for possible contract renewal, hopefully we see the best out of all of them.

tmax63 09-06-2010 07:02 PM

Maybe some of the currently cheap payroll is being saved for signing some of these guys long-term.

mcaj22 09-06-2010 07:07 PM

depending on what kind of season JC has I could see him commanding CJ type wants + money and if that's the case you could see a Chiefs franchise being too cheap and not wanting to budge.

I could see them slapping the franchise tag on him and he holds out next year coming from a mile away.

If for some reason they lose him to free agency I am done cheering for this franchise.

Priest31kc 09-06-2010 07:21 PM

It doesn't matter. There will be a lockout next year sadly.

I don't buy it. Neither the players nor the owners want to lose out on the billions in revenue. There will be some 11th hour deal worked out.

I really really hope so.

T-post Tom 09-06-2010 08:25 PM

Can't wait to hear the first salvo of "Trade Charles now while you can get something for him" on local sports talk radio. I'm guessing 610 will be first on board with this. LMAO

CoMoChief 09-06-2010 09:40 PM

All need to be resigned.....

Charles
Hali
DJ
Carr
Weigmann (If he performs well and doesn't retire, I'd sign him to another 1 yr deal)

el borracho 09-07-2010 06:45 PM

We could lose all of those players and I wouldn't care a bit. Except maybe Charles... but he'll be dead before this franchise is worth a crap.

The thing I can see from a mile away is that in spite of homerism, Jamaal Charles does not belong in a conversation with CJ. That kid is 3 yards short of 4000 from scrimmage in HIS FIRST TWO seasons with 26 TD's and a good average. He seems pretty resistant to injury also. I agree that Charles could have a great year, but everyone on here acts like Jones sucks, Charles is elite and proven, etc.

Nope. Just don't see much talent on the Chiefs. Seriously, who cares about the players listed in the original post?
Charles is the most talented of the bunch but he isn't the type of player you build your team around. He'll make some nice fantasy numbers for a couple of years and then he'll be done.
Hali is probably the second-most talented player on that list and he is very average when it comes to it. He's a complementary piece- not a guy you keep at all costs.

Simply Red 09-07-2010 08:27 PM

Leonard Pope, will he ever be anything?

If there is, I wonder how many people would swear off NFL football, like so many did with baseball.

I couldn't even consider it. I'm a junkie and I need my fix.

Agreed.

KCrockaholic 09-07-2010 10:44 PM

Good points. This will be a very different team, and we had better keep Hali, and Charles. If either of those guys go, I am going to be pissed.

Ryan Mallett in 2011?
