Clark must have finally gave the go ahead to fire him. He had too much "King Carl" in him to last.

Damn, welcome to the "new" Arrowhead.

kstater 09-14-2010 05:42 PM

So he was just kept around for the renovations and they let him stay as a courtesy to the opening it appears.

Either that or he felt up Clark's wife last night. Jeez, he's been in the organization since 74 it appears.

Bane 09-14-2010 05:45 PM

That's right! We win opening night on MNF and still fire a mother****er!

Ok he stepped down but still....

Deberg_1990 09-14-2010 05:47 PM

Actually, my first thought was, "He must've bet on San Diego."

No, if you include Ray Farmer, since he was a holdover from the personell standpoint.

But in the Administration area, I'm thinking it is.

boogblaster 09-14-2010 05:57 PM

prolly had something to do with the rain .... shit melts .....

Mr. Laz 09-14-2010 05:57 PM

Didn't Thum do all the contract negotiations?

surely Clark isn't going to do all that stuff

HonestChieffan 09-14-2010 05:59 PM

Word is the munchkins who live under Arrowhead are good with Clark.

chief52 09-14-2010 06:00 PM

Pretty strange timing it seems to me. Gotta be a story behind this one.

Yes, that's why it is strange. Maybe he just wanted to finish the renovation and resign, who knows

I cannot confirm nor deny those accusations.

And in all fairness to Thum, it was only 28 million of Clarks $$$

stlchiefs 09-14-2010 09:27 PM

Thum was the contract guy, it'll be interesting to see who crunches the numbers now. Thum is a good guy, local Rockhurst grad who worked his way up through the organization. It'll be interesting to hear the full story because there's obviously more to this one.

GoHuge 09-14-2010 10:01 PM

I know Denny and his family personally and would love to hear what this is all about. Denny is a stand up guy though and would never spill the beans or talk gossip bullshit. Just not in his DNA. Super good human being. You'd have no idea he was a big time NFL exec if you met him. Good people.

Yes...Like Lamar...I really liked Denny and Lamar picked his people well. I wouldn't expect Denny to say a word about anything. Class act.

I would bet its health or family reasons knowing Denny IMO.

Mojo Jojo 09-15-2010 04:35 AM

I do business with the Chiefs, and know people there. Rumor is Pioli and Mark Donovan (both hired by Clark) didn't get along with Denny. The two talked with Clark telling him he could save money, and Mark Donovan could assume Denny's work.
You could tell something was up when Denny was doing the TV station tour on the Friday morning news shows to promote Red Friday.
I have meet Denny several times, and he seems to be a very class guy. I wish him all the best.

ChiefMojo 09-15-2010 06:05 AM

Just speculating here, but Thum oversaw the stadium renovation and my guess is he stayed on through opening night to unveil the new Arrowhead and Monday Night football. Once the game was over, he was done. It is pretty apparent Mark Donovan will be taking over in the future at that role, but in the mean time Clark is keeping the seat warm. I really don't think there is to much more to the story other than it was just time for Thum to retire. He was the last piece to the Peterson era, but a very loyal Hunt foot solider. Classy guy and I wish him well (lol tell that to the agents)!

Clark will be keeping the seat warm from his "office" in St. Croix.

Otter 09-15-2010 08:05 AM

I'll bet they were brainstorming how they could improve the team and Thum proposed signing a 49ers backup and seeing if they could get Mary Schottenheimer to come out of retirement and Clark said "GET THE **** OUTA HERE!".

gblowfish 09-15-2010 09:40 AM

I heard a weird rumor that King Carl was being considered in a front office role in Miami. If that's true, Thum could be clearing his plate this year to meet up with King Carl in a new Miami regime.

Or, he could just be retiring. I'd retire if I could, that's for sure. Beats workin'.
