Delhomme Dons a Walking Boot
Posted by Mike Florio on September 14, 2010 9:09 PM ET

Browns quarterback Jake Delhomme was wearing a walking boot on Tuesday, according to Tony Grossi of the Cleveland Plain Dealer. Delhomme injured the ankle during the Browns' Week One loss to the Buccaneers.

Meanwhile, the team has provided no updates on whether Delhomme underwent an MRI on Tuesday, or if so what the exam indicated.

Backup Seneca Wallace is expected to take the first-team reps on Wednesday.

The 0-1 Browns host the 1-0 Chiefs on Sunday.

Marcellus 09-14-2010 07:28 PM

Didn't their back up kill us last time out some guy named Anderson?

Who is #2 now?

The Bad Guy 09-14-2010 07:29 PM

Damn. Seneca Wallace is much better.

Oh well. I worry a lot less now that we have someone who can actually gameplan for an offense.

It seemed like Gunther would go in with a gameplan, and if something changed in the slightest bit (complaing that the Bears were too razzle dazzle in 2000), everything was ****ed.

CaliforniaChief 09-14-2010 07:33 PM

Romeo might be a tad motivated to get'er done this week.

007 09-14-2010 07:35 PM

Shit, I sure hope the career day defense doesn't rear its ugly head.

boogblaster 09-14-2010 07:37 PM

we'll win this game too ..

EyePod 09-14-2010 07:38 PM

I always liked Seneca a lot.... He better not have a good day against us.

Bane 09-14-2010 07:45 PM

I'm not getting all the bromance with Wallace. He's like a black Cassel IMO.Career back up who can't make that next step to starter. He's a below average tail back with below average arm...Hate away.

Holmgren loves Seneca Wallace. He's actually a really talented guy. Great athlete, fantastic scrammbler and has a rocket for an arm... he's just not really a very natural QB... kind of raw still, I think. That and he's kind of short for the position. Even so, he creates a lot of problems in game planning bec of his running ability. I would think the game plan will be to contain him, maybe have a QB spy on him... and hope to get pressure, bec he's likely to make mistakes if we can pressure him.

With all due respect, the league is full of guys like this. It's not personal,I just don't think Wallace is very good at the NFL level QB position.Jason Campbell as well.I know lots of people think he'll be great in Oakland but I don't see it.All my years of tug boat captain knowledge have led me to this decision.

I think I would rather face Delhomme than Wallace at this point.

JD10367 09-14-2010 09:36 PM

Considering Delhomme is French for "washed up", if I were you guys I'd hope for him as well. If he plays, I set the bar at three INTs for the KC defense...

Molitoth 09-15-2010 08:19 AM

The browns always rape us with thier backups.

-King- 09-15-2010 08:26 AM

****!! I'd rather play Delhomme 100 times than play Seneca Wallace once.

You know, this was relevant in the days of Spinner, ****her, and Pendergast.

This is a new DC, and I'm willing to see how things play out with him running things.

It will be interesting if Wallace starts to see if our entire team bites on PA like they have the past 2 regimes. Nothing pisses me off more than to see a QB roll out and have no one in front of him giving him the choice to scramble for 10+ yards or throw to a wide open receiver.

He plays a bend but don't break just like the others. The Browns will probably get some yards. Hopefully they can clamp down when they need to.

It's not the scheme so much as the discipline.

These guys, in this preseason, and in the game Monday night, all played much more disciplined than any Chiefs team we've seen in a long time.

That has to go to demands and expectations from the staff, starting with Crennel.

Hopefully, we continue to see that discipline.

Skyy God 09-15-2010 09:22 AM

Historically, whenever the Chiefs knock out the starting QB, the backup opens a 40 lb. box of rape. This sounds more like a Wallace start from the jump, so we'll have time to gameplan for him.

I'm not worried.

ToxSocks 09-15-2010 09:31 AM

That sucks. With Jake, they didn't have a chance. Now with Wallace in, I'm a bit worried. Too many memories of back up QB's ripping us.

FlaChief58 09-15-2010 09:45 AM

 Campbell is a sub .500 qb and is a suitable backup at best. Wallace is no different. The Chiefs should win this game if they want to prove that they really are turning the corner. Great teams beat bad teams and the browns are bad. I know we are no where near great, but starting the season 2-0 will show we are on the right path. Chiefs 17 - Browns 13.

Mr. Laz 09-15-2010 09:49 AM

we still seem to struggle with any QB that is remotely mobile

we'll see

Well....we're far from great.

And Wallace presents a whole new set of problems that we never had with Delhome. Delhome is an old, inaccurate, statue turnover machine.

Seneca is mobile and has the ability to make plays with his feet when shit breaks down. Wallace will make first downs with his legs on sunday. Bank on it.

Esto.

FlaChief58 09-15-2010 10:02 AM

I'm not denying that he's more mobile but I don't think that's going to be enough to beat us. He is a backup for a reason afterall. The D and ST are going to have to win some games for us this year, like they did on monday. If they play as good as they did then, I have enough faith in our O to do just enough to secure the win.

Micjones 09-15-2010 10:05 AM

With better team speed...I welcome the challenge.
It'll be a great way to test this defense.

siberian khatru 09-15-2010 10:06 AM

Let's take the WABAC Machine to 2006.

Seneca Wallace, in a 35-28 loss to KC, went 15 of 30 for 198 yards, 3 TDs and 2 INTs, and rushed 3 times for 21 yards.

That was for a 9-7 Seattle team that had Darrell Jackson and Deion Branch as WRs.

Has Seneca (who was a second-year pro in 2006) improved much in four years?

So would I.

On the positive side, 3-4 is probably better suited to deal with scramblers than 4-3.

MMXcalibur 09-15-2010 10:14 AM

Christ....

With Delhomme in, I feel like the Chiefs have the upper hand and for the most part, have a good feeling about winning the game. With Wallace at starting QB, I really don't get that vibe. He can provide a lot of complications for a defense that's still in the infant stages of building itself back up.

Get well soon, Jake.
