Sweet - the Hogs move up and Texas is nowhere to be found.

Based on what they've done so far, Oklahoma should be 4 I think. TCU hasn't done anything, and not even looked impressive at a lot of times. Granted, they've won so far and it's early, so it's fine I guess.

Interesting to see how far Michigan falls after Michigan State beats us.

Whoever voted Ohio State and Boise #1 should lose their voting privileges.

This is the first time in 190 straight weeks that Texas hasn't been ranked in the top 25. That is some streak that is finally over.

Let's not give them more credit than they're due... it was 162 weeks.

Florida is too high. They haven't looked good all year against crap teams, and they got worked by Alabama.

'Mr. Awesome' was driving from South Fla back to Tampa yesterday afternoon when the rankings were released.

Boise State falls a place after a 59-0 Blowout shut out. I don't like the way the system is. They could have put up a hundred on them. They started running 2nd and 3rd teammers in the first quarter. But it still wouldn't have helped in the polls.

Yeah, but that's a borderline swap. Based on teams they've beat, OSU beat Miami, which is a higher ranked team, and by a wider margin. I think Stanford's a hell of a lot better than Miami, but for now, that's probably the tiebreaker.

In a head-to-head match up I'd pick Stanford to beat Boise State.

That being said...beating Stanford by 21 is much more impressive than beating NMSU by 59.

Seriously? Oregon's game against Stanford was quite impressive. NMSU got crushed by kansas.

This is a lot like the Chiefs having the best record int he NFL. I know it's not well deserved, but it sure feels good.

Ehh I knew it would never go past 3 and there is no chance of a national champ game for BSU. Would beating nmsu by 105 to 0 looked better sure but that is not the way coach Pete does things. That was one of the most boring games ever. Kinda like high school vs. pee wee teams.

I think the point to be made is that while the top 3 played legit conference games, Boise State played what was pretty much an exhibition game. The score of that game is not that different from the pounding Oregon gave to Portland State and New Mexico, or the pounding OSU gave to Eastern Michigan and Ohio.

And unfortunately, Boise State's two games which were looking to be two hard-fought games against legit opponents turned out to be very close games against two teams who didn't end up being very good.

I hate the BCS system too. And I'd love to see Boise State get a legit chance to battle this out rather than be ranked out of a playoff. But if the rankings are what they are, they will finish the year without beating a team worth a damn, regardless of if they're undefeated.

This pretty much sums up my feelings on the situation.

You must be talking about Osborne making the team run extra sprints. I don't see how that will cause a drop in the polls.

I often wonder why anyone gives a shit about any of the polls, everything will get sorted out as the season goes on.

I would agree if it was any other sport, but the ONLY thing that matter is the polls in college football. If you are ranked #2 to start the season and another team is unranked, regardless of what happens the #2 ranked team has the advantage of positive perception.

Exactly. It's garbage.. but where you are at the start of the season has a huge impact.

#20 and lose you're probably out of the top 25.. If they placed you 10 to start, you may only drop to 16-17.. Which impacts your BCS ranking, which then impacts what bowl you may get in, and then the money your school gets, the recruits you get because of that money being used to up the program, etc.


And someone was seriously saying BSU shouldn't have dropped after Oregon beat Stanford by 21? NMSU is a joke. Even KU beat them by 26.

Bullshit. If you're ranked low at the beginning of the season and win your games you'll climb in the polls. If you're ranked low and and you lose some games...well you probably deserved to be ranked low to begin with. And bowl selections are based more on record than rank. Outside of determining who gets to play in the BCS title game the rankings don't mean shit.

I can at least see some sort of rationale for giving Ohio State a #1 vote (don't agree with it) but the #1 vote for Boise State is blatant abuse of the privilege.

Play somebody. Join a real conference.

THere is no rationale for a #2 ranking based on beating Miami and a bunch of cupcakes.

Miami is still a higher rated team than Stanford, even though I don't think they're nearly as good. I mean, we're arguing semantics here. If OSU goes undefeated, they will have to get through Wisconsin, Iowa, and Michigan, and PSU and Purdue aren't exactly slouches either. So if Oregon and OSU both win out, OSU will probably still have a tougher strength of schedule.

BSU has been moving up conferences as fast as they can. Joined big west and dominated joined WAC and dominated joined Mountain west and we will see. You know as well as I do that you can't just say "let me in". It's a combination of academics athletics and time. Just cause you like to be a dick doesn't mean you can forget about common sense.

Just sayin from what I saw, he was being used as basically an option QB. Everything was either him running or him outside the pocket, the few plays from the pocket he looked awful.
