Swagger in KC?

Worth a trip? Watching it on Diner's, Drive-ins, and Dives at the moment. Looks good, and I'm heading up that way for Thanksgiving. I'll probably only get to choose where I eat out once my entire time up there, so I need to choose well.

Ate there Saturday night. Baked potato fries were AWESOME. Suribachi burger was pretty good, our friend liked her Waldo Trucker, and my Dead Texan was okay, but a bit dry.

If it's your ONLY chance to eat in KC, there are probably better places, especially if you're up for spending some more money.

Well, I used to go up there pretty often, but we don't go as much. We do get up a few times a year, though. I like to eat at interesting places, but I'm not really concerned with fine dining.

Like to eat at either ridiculously excessive, interesting places (which this looks like... also considering Grinder's), or I want to eat somewhere that's on trend and interesting (locavore, farm-to-table, rustic).

I have not been to Swagger yet but you can't go wrong with Grinders.

Thanks. Very much up my alley as well... and much more up my wife's (she's vegetarian).

For your consideration.

http://www.websterhousekc.com

Seems to appeal more to wealthy old crones, socialites and catty homosexuals but the food is VERY good, the lunch menu is reasonably priced and the venue is unique.

Just go to Jack Stack's.

No reason to go to another restuarant.

Reaper16 11-01-2010 10:01 PM

This thread should have been a PM to me.

That said, Swagger is a wonderful little place, but if you only have one meal in KC I can think of many other spots that would rank higher.

You think he should ask a guy Alabama where to eat in KC?

Until I moved to Alabama three months ago there wasn't a single person on this board who had his finger more on the pulse of the Kansas City food scene that me.

Except that I've been to Jack Stack about 100 times. I'll probably get Oklahoma Joe's this time, actually. We always do BBQ at least once, and I've never eaten there.

Hit me up, then. I'm going to try to do Glace, but I don't know if we're going down to the Plaza.

It's funny, I just watched that segment on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives last night. I only started watching halfway through the segment though, and I was trying to figure out where it was; they never said at the end of the segment. I had no idea it was in KC.

What are the good places you've eaten at in the past few years? That wa I don't give you a place you've already visited.

If you're going to OK Joe's (which you should, really) then Glace is only 7 or 8 minute drive from OK Joe's. Glace is a must. A must, I'm telling you!

Using present tense is correct. I don't.

But, greatfully, I did! And, obviously, you have never forgotten how cool you think you are! BTW, be sure to wish Domer happy birthday, he would be crushed if you didn't:rolleyes:

May try to make both of those. We haven't, honestly, eaten anywhere that really excites me in the last few years, beyond BBQ. McCormick and Schmidt's (sp?) was good, but not that interesting. We usually stay out in OP, so we eat at all the chains out there (I'm never the one that's choosing where we eat because usually it's Trent). This time, though, I'm putting my foot down and going to eat at a few places that I choose.

It's no Taco Johns, let's just say that boo.

If it's on Trent's dime, and you like inventive finer dining, then make him take ya'll to Bluestem (http://www.bluestemkc.com/). It's definitely KC's best restaurant, and KC has quite a few strong restaurants.

Naw, he's not actually living in KC anymore, so we won't be seeing him this visit. I'll be footing the bill. ;)

I just realized that when you said you were probably going to OK Joe's that you meant, because of location, that you were going to the Olathe location. That makes the drive to Glace a little bit farther, lol.

There are Blanc Burgers + Bottles and Blue Koi outposts in Leawood if you're looking for more options. These are 2nd restaurants of wonderful local places.
