Your "OH SHIT" moment?

Reviewing the game last night I had the ill experience of shitting my pants all over again.

A lot of crap went down towards the end of the 4th....the long pass to Parrish, the TD, Cassel's shitty bounced pass.

But nothing made me  more than Buffalo's punt return on which THREE Chiefs missed tackles. They had the ball at the 50 with 1:15 left and I was SURE we were ****ed. The fact that DJ dropped an INT on the next snap only compounded the twisting knot in my gut at that point.

That was my OH SHIT moment.

Three plays later Berry had me shitting my pants in joy.

blaise 11-02-2010 07:53 AM

I think it was that time in college when I woke up next to this girl named Tina, and then she rolled over and I saw her face.

BigMeatballDave 11-02-2010 07:55 AM

My Oh SHit was when they tied it, because I just KNEW the Chiefs had blown the game.

Glad I was wrong.

burt 11-02-2010 07:55 AM

When I used to bartend, we had 2 regulars. Called 'em Gretta and ReGretta. My moment was waking up to ReGretta.......

siberian khatru 11-02-2010 07:56 AM

I had two major meltdown outbursts in the living room.

IIRC, the first was Cassel sucking near the end of regulation. I do remember cussing him out loudly for doing something Cassel-like.

The other definitely was the DJ dropped INT, because I thought for sure that was our only chance of stopping the Bills, plus the fact that DJ has dropped so many of those (interestingly, he's caught several of them, too, which just shows how good he is getting in that position).

Anyway, I acted like a complete ass in the latter part of that game.

Bugeater 11-02-2010 07:57 AM

It's pretty hard to narrow it down to just one.

Mr. Flopnuts 11-02-2010 07:58 AM

Being at the game I didn't hear the timeout. I just watched Lindell put it through. I sat there in disbelief. There were many other moments though.

Hammock Parties 11-02-2010 07:59 AM

In fact, I was so over-shitted with joy that I was SCREAMING at Berry to fall on the ground. In the heat of the moment I thought we had the lead and Berry had just won the game for us. In a way, he did.

EyePod 11-02-2010 07:59 AM

That ball was whipped at DJ.... I gave up on our boys at least 3 times (end of the game before the Berry pick, 1st FG attempt, and one other time Buff had the ball deep in our territory). Chan was just as bad as Weis with putting the ball in Fitz's hands. He's just about as bad as Cassel. It was a refreshing QB game.

Oh ****, that must have been awful.

Before the first kick I was thinking "no way he makes this."

Then he made it, but I knew they called a timeout.

But then I thought "shit, he made the first one...he can make this."

DJ's left nut 11-02-2010 08:02 AM

Mine was the TD at the end of regulation.

I knew, just absolutely knew they were going to go for 2 and get it fairly easily. Afterall, they'd run the ball down our throats for most of the 2nd half, why not just give it to Jackson to push around T-Jax and our undersized NT crew?

I still think Chan dropped the ball there.

Interesting. Never once crossed my mind. Now that you bring it up, though, that would've been scary.

TinyEvel 11-02-2010 08:04 AM

I going through McCarran airport just as it was heading into overtime and could not get a signal for 15 minutes, all the way through security. I was so pissed off, just cussing under my breath the whole time until I got to the gate and picked up a signal and saw that we had the ball with 2:00 left. I pretty much remember the whole last quarter through the end as an OHSHIT block of time for several reasons.

An 0-6 team in a road game when they've controlled the clock for the better part of the last half, I don't know why you wouldn't. Especially when the Chiefs had run the ball so well the whole game and had a guy like Charles, who is only ever 1 play away from FG range or the house.

I said something to the guys behind me and they were a lot like you. They didn't even think about it but were terrified about the possibility.

I exhaled audibly when they lined up for the PAT.

Like I said, I still think Gailey botched it.

I felt like Fitzpatrick won the game for us by not taking that sack at the end of overtime. We had no timeout, if he just takes the sack we get the ball back with 30 seconds instead of almost a minute and a half. With no timeout, there is no way we can get down that fast to score.

Likewise, I didn't panic when he "made" the first kick because I knew we'd called timeout.

But on the second kick, it came out wobbling sideways that I immediately thought "We blocked it!" Then it kept going and I kept expecting it to fall way short, and it wasn't until it bounced off the upright that I realized just how close that was to losing. So I didn't have time to freak, because I knew he'd missed it.

It was really weird. Whole game was bizarre.

EyePod 11-02-2010 08:11 AM

DJ's job isn't to make INT's. He's supposed to defend passes and the run, and if he can get an INT, that's great. If he blocks a WR or TE or HB from getting the ball, then I feel like he's doing his job really well.... He was all over the field and had a great game. I can't think of a LB who regularly gets INTs.. can anyone else?

Herm going for 2 in SD in '08 was one of the only things he did right that year, and for similar reasons.

WilliamTheIrish 11-02-2010 08:13 AM

The missed pass in the seam to JC. It was and 'OS' moment for two reasons:

1) In any game you have one or two chances to score quickly and have a decided advantage. Cassell f'ed that one.

2) It's an NFL throw and our guy couldn't/can't make it.

Similar to Vermeil going for the TD as time expired against the Raiders in '05.

If you're two yards away from a win, I think you go for it.

Mine was when Cassel took that three yard sack on second down outside the tackles instead of just throwing the ball away. I told my wife right when that happened that we were going to lose and it was going to be his fault.

Interesting, I thought that had he not stumbled, Berry could have returned the interception for a touchdown.....end of game

Being in the upper bowl we saw Hailey talking to the side judge before the kick. And the ref start to run just before the snap. But the moment of impact on the 2nd kick would qualify......

For me though in overtime seeing CJ Spiller motion to the right and watching DJ shift having to cover one on one on the outside with no real over the top help. Then watching him blow past DJ with Fitzpatrick locked on immediately after the snap.... We all we saying Oh **** watching that play develop from upstairs.

Yup, I remember that play.

I'm sitting there stumped that we somehow put ourselves in a position where DJ is covering Spiller.

Fortunately Spiller didn't run a go route but more of a deep slant so he was never really free of DJ. If the Bills have a more cohesive offense, Fitzpatrick sees that matchup, audibles spiller into a go route and takes his shot.

It's amazing how other people think of other things to think about during football games, that you might not even think of at the same time.

They should really figure out a way to get people together to watch football games instead of having us all isolated watching them on TV, alone. That way we could discuss all these other things. And we could eat and drink together, too.

gblowfish 11-02-2010 10:17 AM

DJ dropping a sure pick-six.
Cassel throwing to a triple covered Pope, almost picked.
Bowe being flipped like a coin.
Succop miss.
Lindell doink.
Fitzpatrick overthrowing wide open Spiller in OT
Succop's winning kick.

Severe loss of fingernails on Sunday...

  • Cassel's shoulda-interception
  • Vrabel's 15 yarder that shoulda been a 5 yarder facemask
  • Every single 3rd and long conversion they Bills made
  • Any time they got into our territory in OT
  • 3rd and inches, lined up in an empty back, shotgun set
  • The Charles overthrow (no NFL QB should ever miss that)
  • DJ's dropped INT
  • Carr's spectacular bat-down on 3rd and long
  • The Intentional Grounding call that took them out of field goal range in OT
  • The make and subsequent missed field goals by Lindel
  • The punt return to the 50 (seriously, Colquitt is incredibly underappreciated)
  • Berry's INT
  • Succop's golf-shot hook
  • Any time Cassel dropped back to pass on that final drive (he was cat shit all day until that drive, where he was nails)

At the game Sunday, the guy about 10 feet away a row down says to his kids "now the guy behind us, he's the potty mouth". Yeah, I know that's me and look over as he's looking back. He kinda sheepishly says "just joking" to which I respond "Why? that's probably about right, my bad." He says "Well, at least you taught them something" and turns back.

Then he says to them "Now this guy in front of us, he's the guy that drinks too much beer and is gonna pass out soon..."

This dude's going to get his ass kicked someday, but it was still pretty funny. My adult dogs are used to this crap, they just crash behind the couch during gamedays. Our foster puppy would high-tail the hell out of the room, run upstairs and hide under the master bedroom until my wife fished him out and he's just stay with her until the game was over.

I forget...

how much time was left when Buffalo tied it up?

Hootie 11-02-2010 02:48 PM

and we had timeouts, right?

that might have been too much time to go for 2...

because not only would they have to get it, but then we'd have to play for the win rather than have the overtime hang above us...

and all we needed was a field goal...

so Chan probably kicked the point after to keep the pressure on us/Cassel not to **** up...rather than put the pressure on his defense not to **** up.

InChiefsHeaven 11-02-2010 02:58 PM

I was in upper deck end zone on the play where Cassel overthrew the shit out of Charles. I remember watching the snap, noticing JC blowing it open, watched the throw (from my angle it looked awesome) and I was screaming "TOUCHDOWN BABY" and then...well, you all saw it. I believe there was less than a minute and I'm almost positive we were out of timeouts.
