Top 50 NFL Head Coaches
Interesting. Top ranked current coach is Belichick, at 12. I'll be honest, I would've put him much higher. Like third.
http://bleacherreport.com/articles/5...l-time#page/51 1. Paul Brown 2. Vince Lombardi 3. Don Shula 4. Chuck Noll (too high) 5. Bill Walsh (too low) 6. Tom Landry 7. Curly Lambeau 8. George Halas 9. Hank Stram 10. Bud Grant (too high) 11. George Allen (too high) 12. Bill Belichick (too low) 13. Bill Parcells 14. Tony Dungy (too high) 15. Joe Gibbs (too low) 16. Weeb Ewbank 17. Bill Cowher (too high) 18. Chuck Knox 19. John Madden 20. Mike Ditka 21. Steve Owen (coached in the 1930s) 22. Jimmy Johnson (too low) 23. Sid Gillman 24. George Seifort 25. Don Coryell (too high for HC, though he was a great OC) 26. Marv Levy 27. Mike Holmgren 28. Tom Flores 29. Dan Reeves 30. Ray Flaherty (coached in 30s/40s) 31. Mike Shanahan 32. Blanton Collier (coached in the 60s) 33. Dennis Green 34. Greasy Neale (coached ine the 40s) 35. Bum Phillips 36. Guy Chamberlain 37. Dick Vermeil 38. Potsy Clark 39. Marty Schottenheimer 40. Sam Wyche [two guys you never heard of] 43. Tom Coughlin 44. John Gruden 45. Andy Reid [someone from the stone age] 47. Brian Billick 48. Jim Mora 49. Jeff Fisher 50. Sam Rutigliano (mostly for being a great guy) |
Dungy at 14?
Oh my |
So I like the first two, and in that order. The way NFL teams do things now -- training camps and all that stuff -- is mostly because of what Paul Brown instituted. He was also a tremendous innovator in terms of formations, etc.
I'll then go with Bill Walsh at 3, Belichick 4, Noll 5, Shula 6, then I'm not sure I'm too fussed about how you mix Landry/Gibbs/Lambeau/Halas at 7-10. Then something like Parcells, Stram, Jimmy Johnson, Allen, and go from there. |
Paul brown wouldn't even cross my mind for the top 50. I know little about him.
|
Shanahan should be in the top 10.

His bio, in brief: Founder of the Cleveland Browns and Cincinnati Bengals. It's why the Browns are called the Browns, and why the Bengals play at Paul Brown Stadium. He integrated the old AAFC, which later merged with the NFL, bringing in its first AFrican-American players. After merging with the NFL: Quote:

Really, him and Dungy got lucky in having great QB's. |
Where's Haley? He should be about 3 or 4

Fisher should be higher up because he has a mustache

Marv Levy should be above Tony Dungy.
|
Tony Dungy shouldn't even be on the list, what a joke.
Others I question: Brian Billick, Jon Gruden, Jim Mora. |
I don't understand Dennis Green being on that list.
|
they are who they that they were. and we let them off the hook.
