Moeaki?

He looked like he got a concussion on the first onside kick attempt.

Any early word on him?

Deberg_1990 11-14-2010 07:17 PM

no idea, but he didnt figure much in the gameplan today.

Buck 11-14-2010 07:17 PM

Yeah that was vicious. He couldn't even stand up.

GoChiefs needs to make a gif.

grandllama 11-14-2010 07:18 PM

Heard brief mention in the recap he was hurt but they didn't expand....

Smed1065 11-14-2010 07:18 PM

Yeah, just a sparker.

Dayze 11-14-2010 07:31 PM

i hope in the next meeting, #51 of the Brocnos gets his leg snapped in half.

Rain Man 11-14-2010 08:08 PM

Was he the one who collapsed after the play? I was watching the pile and saw him go down out of the corner of my eye with no one around him. I didn't know who it was, though.

KS-Surveyor 11-14-2010 08:09 PM

Yes, he was the one. He could barely stand.

LaChapelle 11-14-2010 08:16 PM

It's about time for half the starters
to hit the rookie wall

AJKCFAN 11-14-2010 10:37 PM

Dirty cheap shot by #51 on that onside pick. He made no attempt for the onside kick... soon as the attempt was made he came running at full speed at Moeaki, looking to take his head off. It was as if the ball in play did not matter to him. The helmet to helmet contact was vicious.

Someone needs to queue up that play. Moeaki definitely got concussed on the play...

While I didn't see the actual hit, going to block someone is not dirty, and is actually coached for onside kick recoveries. So making the block and not going for the ball is not dirty, though the actual block may have been.

It was a vicious helmet to helmet hit and the officials didn't see it. The NFL should put a HUGE fine on that POS. During the 2nd onside kick I specifically watched what #51 mays did. He did'nt do it again. Leads me to believe he knew it was wrong the first time he did it.

The NFL needs to suspend him for one game minimum.

Old Dog 11-15-2010 09:05 AM

Nothing wrong with it.

It's clear that #51 was not going after the kick, and was instead going after Moeaki.

I HATE Denver.

Now that I've gotten that out of the way, someone please educate me what was illegal.

I'm serious.

Nothing was, he was probably doing what he was supposed to there unless they consider him to be someone that has good hands. It may have been cheap, and he may have been head hunting, but it is impossible to tell from the replays I've seen of it. Moeaki wasn't defensless, so if players want to try to hurt people, special teams is typically the place they still have the most chances to do so.

Hopefully he isn't hurt as badly as that staggering indicaated he could be.

Steve Sewell 11-15-2010 10:25 AM

It was a routine block for an on-side kick play. The return team players are coached to blow up the on coming players from the kicking team.

Come one guys, you're not Todd Haley. You're better than this, right?

But it's hard to see whether it was an intentional headshot.

Football.

Dante84 11-15-2010 10:30 AM

Yeah, nothing wrong here. Standard block, and Moeaki got his lunch served.

Hope he's alright.

Craven 11-15-2010 10:36 AM

looked like a clean hit...Tony needs to pay better attention in those situations

TimeForWasp 11-15-2010 10:44 AM

I really like Moeoki, but you have to admit, that video was funny as hell. I played it over again about 5 times and was laughing to the point of crying the way he staggered around. Not laughing at his injury, it just struck me funny.

Chief Henry 11-15-2010 10:51 AM

Clean block ? Helmet to helmet is not a clean block.

I can't tell if it was intentionally helmet to helmet, but when two non-ball carriers are running at each other full speed, helmet to helmet is going to happen from time to time.

Uh...what?

It was a clean hit - he was the hammer and Moeaki was the nail.

Shit happens, it's a contact sport. There was some helmet to helmet contact, but it was during a block and Mays didn't make himself a projectile.

It was a hard, clean hit by a guy that was fired up because his team was winning. Moeaki was going through the motions a little bit because the game had gotten away and got his bell rung.

Lesson learned - Moeaki won't go at 80% anymore.

If shit happens, then why didn't Mays make the EXACT SAME block on the very next onside kick attempt ?

To be quite honest, I think Moeaki lowers his head when he goes in, which caused his injury.

ROYC75 11-15-2010 11:16 AM

Come on guys, some of you are still butthurt over this game. It was a shellacking, we got nailed due to our safeties being back up and 3rd stringers. Denver took advantage of this and had something to prove after the game last year.

Just get over it ..... it was a hard, legal hit, it's football.

Different coverage? The guy he was lining up wasn't loafing like Moeaki was? Maybe his coaches called him off a bit because of the score.

Who knows - football is a game of chaos and nothing ever happens the same way twice in a row for a myriad of reasons.

But Mays didn't do anything illegal there. The outside blockers on an on-side kick are usually going to try to block out guys like Moeaki. Remember, on a lot of those on-sides, the play is designed for the first men in to blow away the hands team and the gunners will come in from the outside for the recovery.

Yeah, their helmets collided, but as has been mentioned - that happens on every ST play or in the trenches every snap. It's also not illegal helmet/helmet contact in those instances. The rules for blocking players are different than the rules for QBs, pass-catchers or ball-carriers because the players involved are seen as being on equal footing.

It's like a guy in hockey getting blasted when he has his head down at center ice or a 2b getting upended when he's nonchalant about turning a double-play. If you play hard and play focused, that stuff doesn't happen.

Moeaki didn't have his head in the game and wasn't giving max effort. As a result, Mays lit his world up.

He won't do that again.

TheGuardian 11-15-2010 11:23 AM

Mays had a bunch of late/dirty hits in that game. He's a POS. I hope someone breaks his leg in half as well.

DJ's left nut 11-15-2010 11:26 AM

To put it into perspective:

The ball was kicked from the 30 yardline, and Moeaki had a running start to the LOS.

Mays started from a standing stop at the 40.

And Mays blew Moeaki apart at the 33. Moeaki covers about 4 yards in the time that Mays covered 7. Mays brought more speed and more energy to that party - he was focused and ready to play, Moeaki wasn't.

InChiefsHeaven 11-15-2010 11:28 AM

Mays didn't taunt after the hit, which I would have expected. It was not a dirty hit, it's football. They hit each other. A lot.

Look. The Donkey's desperately needed a win, and a big win at that. The last time we were in that building we raped the shit out of them. Then a couple games ago the filthy Raiders destroy them. After a bye week, they get a shot at the division leader and hated rival Kansas City Chiefs. I wouldn't expect them to play with any less fire.

Hopefully, Tony is OK. He sure didn't look good after that play...

Demonpenz 11-15-2010 12:13 PM

I wish we had an enforcer like that on our team. Our enforcer just doubles as a puffer.

gblowfish 11-15-2010 12:25 PM

What goes around comes around.

Mays will have to come to Arrowhead. We'll have a little sumptin sumptin for him.

I'd show that play to the Special Teamers about 500 times in film study the week before the Donk game at Arrowhead.

Exactly this, Moeaki should have been full speed with his head on a swivel. It was clean
