Can you send text messages from a landline phone number?

I've been getting some prank texts of someone telling me to lookout behind me and tick tock and them telling me they will be asking all the questions.

Anyways, I did a reverse lookup and everything says the number is a landline number. Is that possible?

Bugeater 03-07-2011 11:55 PM

Maybe you should call them and ask them wtf is up.

Phobia 03-07-2011 11:55 PM

Yes, it is possible. Look out behind you.

Urc Burry 03-07-2011 11:56 PM

Idk there might be an android/iphone app... I have one on my droid called PrankDial, and It uses recorded conversations to prank people, and when you do it you pick the number that shows up on their phone....area code and everything

I tried. Went to voicemail which was just the standard voice message with a phone number.

White Pages offers a $2 thing where they will text you the name of the person, but Verizon doesn't support it so I can't get the name.

Likely, the reason that when you do a reverse lookup and it shows as a landline is because that person texting you ported their landline number to a mobile phone.

Well according to the little map on the reverse lookup website, the arrow is pointing awfully close to one of my friends houses. I'm assuming its him.

I'm not sure those arrows point to a house specifically... unless there is an address attached to it. And if it does, how the **** do you not know you friends address??? Shit, at least the name of the street they live on.

There is no address attached, but the top map here is what the reverse lookup site shows and the bottom map is where my friend lives.

I'm curious. Do another reverse search with another phone number, preferably unlisted, and see if it shows a different area. I really don't think it is showing you a location... otherwise what is the point of being unlisted?

Or post the site you did the reverse search from and I'll do the legwork.

If not that is really odd that the address came up right there, 500 feet within my friends house.

I checked a random number and the map showed elsewhere so I don't know.

Hey, Buck.

Look out behind you buddy.

Tick tock tick tock.

Stop looking for the answers. I'll ask the questions.

Tick tock tick tock.

See you around.

Buck 03-08-2011 12:27 AM

Well if I stop posting just assume that listopencil killed me.

Nope... just coincidence. I just did a search for my mobile number. It had me in Mulvane, KS, a city 20 miles away.

To be sure, I did a search for a business landline number I know to be unlisted. The result was 10 miles off.

Lastly, I did a search for a relative's unlisted number. Result was completely across town.

Buck 03-08-2011 12:31 AM

Did the results say Unpublished or Success Weve Found it!?

Buck 03-08-2011 12:32 AM

whatever, I'm just going to stay up til 4 am and text the shit out of the person

that should annoy them

reverse trolling ftw

DaFace 03-08-2011 12:41 AM

Probably a ported number.

In high school we used to send anonymous text messages from the Internet. I guess it was fun

Search successful! Results for (XXX) XXX-XXXX

They got the phone carrier wrong and the flag points to the bus station.

WebGem 03-08-2011 01:45 AM

There's those iPhone apps that give u a texting number and those numbers are numbers the people can't call back. It just works to text from the app and if they try to call it there's a recording that says "This is a (textservice app name) number...blah blah". So that could possibly show up as a landline when you do the reverse lookup...it could be that.

If not it has to be something similar (not a regular cell # but something w/ text capabilities). But I doubt it's just a regular house phone...I don't think you can text from those. I could be wrong though.

Buck 03-08-2011 01:47 AM

I get the standard

You've reached 619-265-xxxx please leave a message at the tone. (its that computerized chick voice)

619 ftw!!!!!!!

its rey mysterio

WebGem 03-08-2011 01:51 AM

But yeah...I dunno in that case. It sounds to me like it's actually a cell phone and that the reverse lookup is wrong.

Is it possible the person got a previously landline # ported to their cell phone when they signed up? Because I think most of the reverse lookup services just go by area code + prefix. Like mine is 480-369 and that's a Verizon prefix for the Phoenix area. But I got it ported over to AT&T when I switched providers. Is it possible a landline number was ported to a cell phone account?

Buck 03-08-2011 01:51 AM

ROFL

Silock 03-08-2011 01:54 AM

**** that. I'd just call the phone company and get them in serious trouble.

WebGem 03-08-2011 01:54 AM

Text them back a pic of your nuts, Buck Farve.

blackgold 03-08-2011 07:55 PM

no it can't be a landline number. you can't send messages from landline numbers. it's a cell number for sure. the directory you used got it wrong.

Crush 03-08-2011 07:58 PM

Buck, have you checked the children?
