Goin' to Atlanta...

Alright... I'm going to Atlanta on business next week. I'll be there by myself for the first and last day. I need to know the two places for a meal that I can't miss. I've been to Mary Mac's and Varsity.

MIAdragon 04-22-2011 09:10 PM

Text red, he knows all the spots.

Fire Me Boy! 04-22-2011 09:11 PM

I know, I'm hoping this will draw him out. I don't have his number.

When you get there just look for the well dressed guy.

That'll be him.

Rain Man 04-22-2011 09:29 PM

I bet they have the freshest Coca Cola on the planet there. You should tour the plant and see if you can get a sample straight out of the coke vat thingie.

Deberg_1990 04-22-2011 09:30 PM

You and Simply Red can hang out.

Bewbies 04-23-2011 12:34 AM

You can get fresh Coke out of any fountain, but I find it best at Chick-Fil-A.

Atlanta has thousands of restaurants, what kind of food do you want? Local only, or just not where you live?

Bewbies 04-23-2011 12:35 AM

Download the ScoutMob app on your phone, they have great local neighborhood joints at 50% off.

If you're going to be in town on Thursday, I highly recommend Taco Mac or Stats for your draft viewing, food eating, beer drinking pleasure. Stats if you're downtown, Taco Mac is everywhere else and has hundreds of beers to shove down your gullet.

Stay north of I-20, you don't want to visit that part of Atlanta. LMAO

jojomontana 04-23-2011 06:32 AM

Fogo de Chão if you like meat. Really.
Spondovits is a pretty cool bar and grill that has outstanding seafood.
Ruth Chris = awesome steaks
BBQ ... yeah, nevermind.
Sweetwater Brewing Company has lots awesome micro brews and is a fun place to hang out.

Ah, Stats! I spent some good time there last time - it was an easy walk from the hotel. :)

OK, I've heard of Fogo, sounds really good. Will consider that one... last time I went to Brazilian steakhouse, though, I came out feeling like I was sweating protein.

I am looking for strictly local, or very small chains.

Bump 04-23-2011 07:23 AM

go to that chicken and waffles place owned by that older lady singer.

My wife and her friend ate at this place a few years ago and said it was fabulous:

I was gonna suggest pappadeaux too. It's not local to Atlanta but it's fairly small - Texas chain that rarely makes it out of Texas. Delicious food for a fair price.

Rausch 04-23-2011 09:35 AM

I loved it.

I went there for a nerd convention and was amazed how well the locals/staff treated us.

There's a Japanese place me and Misplaced ate at that was great. Probably the 3rd best meal of my life. Can't remember the name but it was right there around the major hotels, about one or two blocks north...

I noticed after I posted the link that FMB is from Alabama so he might already have lots of options for cajun seafood.

I've been to the ones in Atlanta and Chicago. Both were outstanding, at least to someone from the upper midwest.

Simply Red 04-28-2011 07:15 AM

Tonight, FMB! - http://tinyurl.com/42eg3pa
I will introduce you to the best ruben sammy, you've ever had. It's litterally BETTER than Carnegie's in Manhattan.

7-mis from you

and 2-mis. from me

Of course, I can pick you up, if you need me to.

CALL ME, BABY!!!

acesn8s 04-28-2011 07:16 AM

Avoid the IHOPs.

Simply Red 04-28-2011 07:25 AM

It's the Waffle Houses.

Fun Fact: Atlanta Metro has 375 Waffle Houses.

Gladys Knight? That place has phenomenal fried-chicken, actually. But it's about 30mis north.

not even close, maybe 100 HH's - totally guessing - I'm dead serious, the metro area almost has 400 waffle houses, no joke.

Atlanta - The armpit of America.

Have fun, I hate that town.

MUCH better than KC and it's not even close, actually. I will never EVER move back to that shit hole - since we're speaking of armpits, and I'm FROM there.

I having trouble seeing the logic, unless you stayed in 'The Swats'

the drive through STL and KC = pink houses w/ debris off of i70 and the shit industry w/ rusty buildings and empty beer-bottles.

the drive through Atl = clean 6-lane 'well lit' freeways, no trash on the roads, or minimal. NEWER construction. Yeah, shitty town.

Simply Red 04-28-2011 07:55 AM

In all fairness, a lot of folks who visit Atlanta - only see CERTAIN parts, thus leaving them the feeling that the entire city MUST be the same.

Though it's spotty, this town is awesome. Nobody living here is a native, it seems. You never know what you're going to get. And the part I live in is just crammed packed w/ hot females and kick ass eateries and shopping. Hoov - if you ever come in town, give me a pm, I'd like to show you that it's not ALL like what you experienced.

Crime is bad in areas, no doubt about it.

Simply Red 04-28-2011 11:45 AM

You need to go if you can, broheim. I'll lead the way with the shit-talking - you can follow like a lost tourist, and I'm fine with that.:p

JK let me know bud - no sweat

Simply Red 04-28-2011 11:48 AM

One last note bud, If you can't meet - try to hit up Shout in downtown, the food is unique and it's really handy to your Notel.

There's one on Peachtree in Midtown, near the Fox.

Bewbies 04-28-2011 12:19 PM

Atlanta is awesome. God Almighty would have to decree from on high for me to even consider moving back to the midwest. F that noise.
