Alot of people associate music with times in their lives. So, is there any line to any song that means something to you? Or maybe just one you like alot?

Bugeater 07-03-2011 11:58 AM

Oh yeah, Floyd has some good ones.

"And then one day you find, ten years has got behind you,
no one told you when to run...you missed the starting gun
So you run and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking
Racing around to come up behind you again.
The sun is the same in a relative way but you're older,
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death.

There are a million of them, but a few that come to mind:

Benny and the Jets: Where we fight our parents out in the streets to find who's right and who's wrong.

Thunder Road: Show a little faith, there's magic in the night. You ain't a beauty, but, hey, you're all right.

Brain Damage: And if the dam breaks open many years too soon
And if there is no room upon the hill
And if your head explodes with dark forebodings too
I'll see you on the dark side of the moon.

Pink Houses: There's a young man, in a tee shirt, listening to a rock and roll station. He's got greasy hair and a greasy smile. He says, "Lord, this must be my destination."

Shook Me All Night Long: Taking more than her share, had me fighting for air. She told me to come, but I was already there.

Smells Like Teen Spirit: I found it hard. It's hard to find. Oh, well, whatever. Never mind.

Pink Floyd's The Trial :thumb:

I don't think people completely understand precisely how brilliant that line is!

It is the most compelling line in the entire album and illuminates how "Pink" realizes this mess he got himself into. And although it's too late, that door offers some sort of hope or salvation for him, but it's no longer there...or was it ever there?

A great example of how a single line in one song can sum up an entire album. Good choice. :thumb:

You know I'll be the one who gets fallin' down drunk
At my neighbour kid's soccer game
I've got an '82 Fierro with a car seat in the middle
Broken down on the Interstate
I've got a beer-stained t-shirt looking like Joe Dirt
Something 'bout me just ain't right
I'm a cash-stealin', drug-dealin' loser without any feelin'
Gettin' trailer trash tonight

'Cause I'm a lowlife, and I'm lovin' it
I've got the whole damn world in the palm of my hand
I'm a lowlife, so ****in' deal with it
No, you can't change something that you don't understand
[ Lyrics from: http://www.lyricsmode.com/lyrics/t/t...n/lowlife.html ]
I'm thrilled to be a hillbilly
Hate to have to deal with me
Probably just end in a fight
No sleeves, can't breathe, doesn't even phase me
Naked, sleepin' like a baby tonight

'Cause I'm a lowlife, and I'm lovin' it
I've got the whole damn world in the palm of my hand
I'm a lowlife, so ****in' deal with it
No, you can't change something that you don't understand

Livin' it up, livin' it up
Being a low life
(X3)
Livin' it up, livin' it u-u-up

A gun-packin', bitch-smackin', mess with me it's gonna happen
Lovin' life, livin' in sin
Passed out on the floor, sorry just to work no more
Give it up for giving in

(Ah **** it)

'Cause I'm a lowlife (lowlife), and I'm lovin' it
I'm never gonna change as long as I live
I'm a lowlife (lowlife), so ****in' deal with it
'Cause deep down I really know everyone is

'Cause we're low lives (low lives), and we're lovin' it
We got the whole damn world in the palm of our hand
'Cause we're low lives (low lives), so ****in' deal with it
No, you can't change something that you don't understand

"Sticker this, censor this, ban this
We've got something to say
Police this, condemn this, damn this
We'll be heard anyway
Middle finger is the flag that I wave when I'm silenced...

Listen here...

Is it a possibility?
That we're all just equal,
Slam the power down
Abusing...
Does it piss you off to be beat at your own game
You lead us with false morals and shelter reality
No more...we're not buying your product when
You're selling
The words preaching silence

Insult me in my home,
When you were never invited,
To live life on your curve
Frustrating,
Throw sticks into the spokes,
To relieve insecurities,
Stifle all ascension and sticker our freedom
Of speech"

Well I woke up Sunday morning,
With no way to hold my head that didn't hurt.
And the beer I had for breakfast wasn't bad,
So I had one more for dessert.
Then I fumbled in my closet through my clothes,
And found my cleanest dirty shirt.
Then I washed my face and combed my hair,
And stumbled down the stairs to meet the day.

I'd smoked my mind the night before,
With cigarettes and songs I'd been pickin'.
But I lit my first and watched a small kid,
Playin with a can that he was kickin.
Then I walked across the street,
and caught the Sunday smell of someones fryin' chicken.
And it took me back to somethin',
That I'd lost somewhere, somehow along the way.

On the Sunday morning sidewalk,
I'm wishin Lord that I was stoned.
Cause there's something in a Sunday,
that makes a body feel alone.
And there's nothin' short of dyin',
Thats half as lonesome as the sound,
Of a sleepin' city sidewalk
and Sunday mornin' comin' down.

In the park I saw a daddy,
With a laughin' little girl that he was swingin'.
And I stopped beside a Sunday school,
And listened to the songs that they were singin'.
Then I headed down the street
And somewhere far away a lonely bell was ringin'.
And it echoed through the canyons,
Like the disappearing dreams of yesterday.

On the Sunday morning sidewalk,
I'm wishin Lord that I was stoned.
Cause there's something in a Sunday,
that makes a body feel alone.
And there's nothin' short of dyin',
thats half as lonesome as the sound,
Of a sleepin' city sidewalk
and Sunday mornin' comin' down.

I park my pontiac
Down the hill out in back
Late every afternoon
With a coke and a cigarette
And all of the neighbors there
They see a nice old man

And the girl there across the street
She sits on her front porch swing
She never realized
What I told her with my eyes
How back in the second war
I killed twenty German boys
With my own bare hands

And the woman inside my house
She won't stop talking
She never says a thing
She just keeps talking
And I might just leave her still
After the sun goes down
And I smoke this cigarette

A sickened mind and spirit
The mirror tells me lies
Could I mistake myself for someone
Who lives behind my eyes
Will he escape my soul
Or will he live in me
Is he tryin' to get out or tryin' to enter me.
Voices in the darkness
Scream away my mental health
Can I ask a question
To help me save me from myself

All I want,
Everything
In it's right place.

That, to me, is the most resonant lyric imaginable. Equal parts irony and desire, to be something resembling "normal" and to refute what you're expected to be. It hits on so many levels.

burt 07-04-2011 05:44 AM

scars are souvineers you never loose. Goo Goo dolls.

And my all time favorite.....long but worth it...

It was an early morning bar room,
And the place just opened up.
And the little man came in so fast and
he Started at his cups.
And the broad who served the whisky
She was a big old friendly girl.
Who tried to fight her empty nights
By smilin' at the world.

And she said "Hey Bub, It's, It's been awhile
Since you been around.
Where the hell you been hidin'?
And why you look so down?"

Well the little man just sat there
like he'd never heard a sound.

The waitress she gave out with a cough,
And acting not the least put off,
She spoke once again.

She said, "I don't want to bother you,
Consider it's understood.
I know I'm not no beauty queen,
But I sure can listen good."

And the little man took his drink in his hand
And he raised it to his lips.
He took a couple of sips.
And then he told the waitress this story.

"I am the midnight watchman down at Miller's Tool and Die.
And I watch the metal rusting, I watch the time go by.
A week ago at the diner I stopped to get a bite.
And this here lovely lady she sat two seats from my right.
And Lord, Lord, Lord she was alright.

You see, she was so damned beautiful that she could warm a winter frost.
But she looked long past lonely, and well nigh on to lost.
Now I'm not much of a mover, or a pick-em-up easy guy,
But I decided to glide on over, and give her one good try.
And Lord, Lord, Lord she was worth a try.

Well I was "Tongued-tied like a school boy, I stammered out some words.
It did not seem to matter much, 'cause I don't think she heard.
She just looked clear on through me to a space back in my head.
It shamed me into silence, as quietly she said,
'If you want me to come with you, then that's all right with me.
Cause I know I'm going nowhere, and anywhere's a better place to be.
Anywhere's a better place to be.'

Well I drove her to my boarding house, and I took her up to my room.
And I went to turn on the only light to brighten up the gloom.
But she said, 'Please leave the light off, oh I don't mind the dark.'
And as her clothes all tumbled 'round her, I could hear my heart.
The moonlight shone upon her as she lay back in my bed.
It was the kind of scene I only had imagined in my head.
I just could not believe it, to think that she was real.
And as I tried to tell her she said 'Shhh.. I know just how you feel.
And if you want to come here with me, then that's all right with me.
'Cause I've been oh so lonely, lovin' someone is a better way to be.
anywhere's a better place to be.'

Well The morning come so swiftly I held her in my arms.
And she slept like a baby, snug and safe from harm.
I did not want to share her or dare to break the mood,
So before she woke I went out to buy us both some food.

"I came back with my paper bag, to find that she was gone.
She'd left a six word letter saying 'It's time that I moved on.'"

You know The waitress she took her bar rag, and she wiped it across her eyes. And as she spoke her voice came out as something like a sigh.
She said "I wish that I was beautiful, or that you were halfway blind.
And I wish I weren't so goddamn fat, I wish that you were mine.
And I wish that you'd come with me, when I leave for home.
For we both know all about emptiness, and livin' all alone."

And the little man, Looked at the empty glass in his hand.
And he smiled a crooked grin, He said, "I, I guess I'm out of gin.
And I know we both have been, so lonely. And if you want me to come with you, then that's all right with me. 'Cause I know I'm goin' nowhere and anywhere's a better place to be."

Down at the juke joint me and the boys were stompin'
Bippin' an a boppin', telling a dirty joke or two
In walked this chick and I knew she was up to something
I kissed her right there out of the blue

I said "Hey baby, meet me I'm a tough guy"
Got my cycle outside, you wanna try?
She just looked at me and rolled them big eyes
And said "Ooh I'd do anything for you 'cause you're a rocker"

I focus on the pain
The only thing that's real
The needle tears a hole
The old familiar sting
Try to kill it all away
But I remember everything

What have I become?

You could have it all
My empire of dirt
I will let you down
I will make you hurt

I wear this crown of shit
Upon my liar's chair
Full of broken thoughts
I cannot repair
Beneath the stains of time
The feelings disappear
You are someone else
I am still right here

What have I become?
My sweetest friend
Everyone I know
Goes away in the end

And you could have it all
My empire of dirt
I will let you down
I will make you hurt

If I could start again
A million miles away
I would keep myself
I would find a way

I've always been crazy and the trouble that it's put me through
I've been busted for things that I did, and I didn't do
I can't say I’m proud of all of the things that I’ve done
But I can say I’ve never intentionally hurt anyone

Oh yeah! I knew those lyrics were familiar. Ozzy is amazing, and just when I start to think he's going downhill, he puts out a decent record even at his age. The Prince of Darkness.
