NCAA Football 2012
Anyone have the game yet?
I'm looking forward to it; especially after reading about the improved RTG mode etc. Also looking forward to working my way up through the coordinator ranks etc. |
Im expecting to arrive at my house any time
|
I thought I could hold out until the weekend, but I'm seriously Jones'n for it; I might have to pick it up tonight.
|
Picking it up tonight after work. My friend has already been playing it and he says its ****ing awesome.
Dynasty is ****ing awesome. You start off as a coordinator. |
I'm picking it up today.
Anybody here doing an online dynasty? I'd like to join As long as the commish of the OD isn't shady, since he can edit anyone's attributes for any team. |
for the first time ever, I created a team on the Teambuilder website etc. I created my old HS team for the RTG mode. I've never really gotten into Roster updates or any other type of importing. I might this time around though.
|
wife gave me the green light. I usually hold off, as she gets it for my birthday each year (next week). But last year, the birthday get together didn't occur until mid-august. Yeah...I can't wait until mid-august this year lol. That nearly killed me.

amazon had a great deal, you buy it and get $20 credit, and plus it was $1 shipping for release day delivery.

According to my friend.....recruiting is exactly the same.
The amount of detail in setting up a dynasty though is amazing. |
i'm pretty stoked.
here's hoping I can import my team I built for the RTG mode. I'll probably spend a lot of time on that initially this week, the move into Dynasty mode once I have a good chunk of time to play it. the RTG mode last year was a huge disappointment, as it was indentical to 2010. I didnt' get too far into Dynasty mode; I was sort of burned out on the recuiting process. I must have been doing somthing wrong, because I couldn't recruit for crap. lol. I randomly selected a school - Middle Tennessee State - and could barely get commits from 3 star recruits. I wasn't expected to be able to nab 5 star guys, or even very many 4 star guys (if at all)...but, given the amount of 3 stars out there I would've though I could got more than I did. so, i'm sure it's something I need to adjust in my approach etc. Looking forward to rising up as a OC or DC etc. |
Just something to keep in mind.
If you're the OC.....you don't have control of the FG or XP units. |
1 grip, how the hell is Taylor Martinez speed only a 81

Is there a link to the roster ratings? I'd like to see what ISU looks like right now. I'm 50/50 on getting it now or waiting a few more days.
|
anyone having trouble getting tatoos for autographs? I am having trouble unlocking THEE OHIO STATE TATTOO above my ballsack
|
heh, I just lost to NIU with Kansas in double OT

That's what makes the ea ncaa series so fun. KU needs a QB. Theres no way around it. Did they put Brock in the game? |

DB's still drop a lot of interceptions.
|
I do pretty good with James Sims so far, I love that kid
|
they added most of the things I was hoping they would. For the first time since like 2005 you can FINALLY sub players for all positions, so I if I want a certain backup in, I won't have to rely on energy settings to having to go to the menu every time. FINALLY, my GOD that was probably the thing I hated the most about the game.

Here are my initial thoughts. Keep in mind, I’ve only been playing in the RTG mode thus far.
I was able to create my old HS team, and import the team into RTG mode very easily. I was a little nervous as to how much of a PITA this would be when I created the team, however it was very straight-forward. I really enjoy the iron-man aspect of if it, and have separate recruiting results for each. Very nice. Still a little disappointed you can’t be a TE, or OL, but oh well. No big deal. I selected HB/SS as my positions. While playing Defense, I quickly realized that it’s very difficult to gain any recruiting points, short of an interception/TD/or other big play each game. I REALLY wish EA would incorporate a skills point system similar to NBA 2k11 where you earn points for doing the right things. For example, perhaps you could earn points for ‘staying at home’ if a play goes away from you; or filling a hole correctly; etc. (depending on position of course). I would really like playing as a DL at some point, however, I’m not sure how one would gain the necessary recruiting points under the current set up. I think DL and LB (and possible OL)positions would benefit the most from a 2k skills points system. Offense is just what you’d expect, in terms of earning recruiting points. Blocking and tackling: holy crap. MUCH MUCH better. As a ball carrier, you can actually set up your blocks a bit, and blockers (For the most part) seem to be aware of their surroundings. 2011 and previous versions infuriated me to no end when being on the verge of breaking a run, and your WR or pulling lineman would go to a spot, and simply jog in place preparing to block……….while the defender just runs right past them. Offensive line blocking seems much improved. There is the occasional completely missed assignment, but hey – that happens. You can actually see the blocking develop and run accordingly. So far it doesn’t appear that the linemen are on ice-skates; sliding around to form a pocket etc. Looks like they fixed that. Tackling is excellent. The tackling animation doesn’t appear to begin until the defender makes contact with the ball carrier. This is great. No more garbage animation that sucks the defender and ball carrier together, in some sort of pre-determined script. The tackling animations themselves seem to also be improved. I’ve seen quite a variety of hits/animations. And it also seems like some of the hits are momentum based. So if the defender has the momentum and clips a shoulder, you react accordingly. As a ‘User’, tackling is taking me some getting used to. Maybe it’s because I haven’t played 2011 in so long or what, but it seems like you really need to get into a position to make contact otherwise you whiff. I like this aspect of it. There’s also tackling feature where you can hit ‘X’ if you’re too far away to wrap up, but too close to dive etc. “3-D grass”. Yes, it’s in there. But you really only see it on replays etc. It looks great however. On replays you also see blades of grass and paint getting churned up into the air as you run. Field Degradation – I think it’s in there; looked like my field was getting chewed up a bit. Uniform Degradation – I think it’s in there…..I can’t recall/didn’t really notice. My $.02 so far. I’ll probably get into Dynasty this weekend. I’m sure others have already jumped into Dynasty so I’m sure they’ll have some thoughts. Overall, I really like this game. More than I did when 2011 came out. |

I finally made it through RTG 11 game high school season and playoffs.
I really liked the changes to the recruiting aspect of it, and points system. also, it looks like you can see what kind of offense/defense your potential school runs. Nothing was more infuriating as being a power back, and going to a school that was option based/spread etc. Or being a WR and going to a running team etc. So it was nice to have the style listed for each school (Pro, Multiple, Spread, Single Back, Air Raid) to help with your decision. I also liked that you were notified when a school/s were interested in you and you could select which one YOU were interested. BYU was interested in me, but I had no interest in BYU etc. So it's nice to sort of only deal with the schools you're interested in instead of 70 teams to sift through. Once at the school, practices actually have a purpose now. even if you're the starter. If your not, you need to go through the practices to get to the next level on the depth chart. But, even if you're the starter you can use practices to build trust with the Coach, and to earn points. You can spend the points each week on things that are either a weekly attribute boost, or a career attribute boost. Meaning, a weekly boost is only good for a week; career is good for your career etc. weekly boosts appear to be cheaper, and career boosts are much more expensive at times. And gone are the days of going through each day of the calendar and selecting if you want to go to the gym, see the trainer, study your playbook or go to class. Completely pointless. The menu seems a bit more streamlined; there are minimal dialogue boxes that pop up asking "are you sure", after every GD decision you make. In fact, I think that reeruned-ass calendar is gone completely. Still loving the game. |
I started a dynasty with KU.
Obviously going to have to look at changing the offense because I don't see us running the spread going forward. Otherwise it's pretty similar to last year's game but still a good time. |
I really wish they would fix recruiting. It still sucks.....and now its even slower.

Anyone know if the named rosters are out yet?
|

Seriously, first play of the game, Webb runs it for 8 yards. He's so tired that he has to come out. Really?

Is that just the named rosters? or are the updated ratings/players/named ones up already?

I have yet to try RTG mode, but it sounds like they've done some nice upgrades to it.
I am in a online coaching carousel dynasty. I thought being a defensive coordinator would be cool. Only problem is that it seems the CPU controlling my offense is pretty inept. Either that or the players just suck. But I know I can put up some points if I run the offense. I'm thinking that maybe I should have taken the offensive coordinator position. :( On another note, in my offline dynasty I was playing Kansas @ Oklahoma State the other night. They were ahead 27-7 going into the 4th quarter. I made a mad rally and go ahead 28-27. With 12 seconds left and OSU at about their own 35, the game froze. WTF? This is a brand new game. It should not freeze. So I replayed it yesterday and won 31-10. I can actually play some good defense on this game when my offense can give me some support. :) |
BTW, does RTG mode still have the problem of your QB not knowing how to run a screen pass? Seemed like in previous versions of NCAA Football, the QB would always get sacked on HB/FB screens.
|
Quote:
the first few times I was the HB in the screen game, my timing was so off the QB would lob a ball to me that would take me all the way to the sideline etc. After a handful of practices, I have pretty good timing with my OL and usually get the ball where it should be. the QB is sacked every now and again, but not all that bad compared to years past. |
BTW, anyone thinking of buying this game, here's a deal.
Walmart has NCAA 12 Football (Playstation 3 or Xbox 360) + $25 eGift Card for $60 + free shipping to store. |
....it appears they didn't fix the issue of Linebackers jumping up 6' in the air to knock down passes (RTG mode)
|
Is there going to be a PS3 online dynasty?

good point ^ . lol.
one thing I really like, is the addition of the Coachs' Trust /point system. I picked Colorado State as my choice to play QB (for no reason, just picking random teams a bit). The first few games were BRUTAL....you couldn't call audbiles, move protection, call hot routes etc. Basically, you were stuck with the play that was called. But, this made it rewarding as you progressed through the levels of Coachs' trust. you are slowly able change plays (from 3 options) 5 times a game; then 10, then 20. You are able to call hot routes at home, then on the road as well. No squiggly lines on the road. Finally, you're able to call audbiles on your own. Pretty cool, but man...the first 1/4-1/2 of the season was brutal. |

The linebackers awareness in the passing game is more than a bit unrealistic.
I haven't adapted the AI settings though, as that means the terrorists win....... |

That linebacker shit is UNREAL. They're seriously jumping eleventy feet in the air to bat down (and sometimes intercept) my ****ing pass. Granted, it's not as bad as in years past, but it's still ridiculous.
|
I've noticed the pass blocking (blocking in general) is a little ridiculous at times as well.
Some of it is probably due to my playing as Colorado State, but I've noticed issues when playing with top-tier teams as well. Like, virtually zero time to throw. You hit yoru 3, 5, or 7 step, and you're killed by a regular, non-blitzling defender. Play action plays are reeruned. Every time you run PA, the Defense is in man and doesn't bite on anything. You could run 10 straight times for 4+ yds a pop, and try to sneak in a PA, ...nada. You're most likely sacked by the time you complete the play fake. So, now that I have enough coachs' trust to change the play, I pretty much always change it when a PA play is the initial play-call. I need to play with the sliders a bit; the stock set up maddening. |

Check the forum I posted earlier. They've got some guys on there who have spent weeks upon weeks perfecting them. |

I am playing an offline dynasty as the OC for UTEP on All-American and it is brutal. I am not terribly good at these games anyway but I really get my ass handed to me here, but I am a glutton for punishment. My first season I went 4-8 and got raped in a couple games by 30+ points. I got a decent recruiting class of about 10 3-star players (for UTEP that's not bad). So far in the second season I am 1-2 but playing a bit better and have a decent chance at a few 4-star recruits.
About passing I read somewhere to keep your QB in the pocket or even step up in the pocket for better luck. I do that and have a bit more time to throw. In the past I would back up and/or boot out to either sideline but in this year's game the outside rushers will eat you alive. |

I've been experiementing with the gameplay of a few positions in RTG mode.
Linebackers Seems about the same as in years past. Although, there seems to be improvement in getting off blocks/block shedding. Sometimes, you get velcroe'd to a guy and there's no escape, however. As with most of the gameplay, adjustment of sliders is necessary. LIneman will fire off the ball and be on you in .23 seconds. As usual, you can pretty much count on 90% of the time the play going away from wherever you're lined up before the snap. Blitzing is still challenging -regardless of your speed and quickness, the OT will basically always get onto you and block. Even more 'awesome' is when the OT engages with the DE and you come on an edge blitz, only to be picked up by either the Guard or Center. Tackling, however, seems improved quite a bit. WR Not sure what to make of this. It's really not all that fun of a position to play. 90% of the time you're mirrored directly by the CB. No amount of juking etc, can shake him/get seperation from him. There is virtulally no point in participating in running plays; thus far in the HS season, there are no points for making good blocks etc. Maybe this will change once you get to your College etc, but for HS, just skip the running plays. Speaking of running plays, it's typical (so far) for my HS team to run the ball 40+ times per game. I'm not sure if there is a concept/method to running better routes, but it currently sucks. I wish there was a way to run precise routes. If you're the #1 or #2 WR, prepare to run go-routes, and comebacks all day. Comebacks seem to work OK, but go routes are almost pointless. This weekend I want to hav some time to get involved in the dynasty aspect. |
I've been doing the Dynasty portion - just finished up my first season as an OC. It's actually pretty fun, although the recruiting is a bit cumbersome.
