Pioli's offseason.
* He franchised Hali at the start of it.
* He drafted the following: 1. WR Jonathan Baldwin + a 3rd* Vrabel retires. (Pioli's commitment to youth at OLB at least a contributing factor.) * Signed Casey Wiegmann. * Brought in a dozen UDFAs, including three people I would imagine will make the roster: DE Brandon Bair, OT David Mims, and KR Demond Washington. * Signed Steve Breaston. * Brought back Battle, Cox, Copper, Pope, O'Callaghan, Daniels, McGraw, and Langford. * Brought every rookie but Houston into camp on time. * Richardson, Gilberry will sign their tenders. Carr is holding out as of this moment. * Signed Kelly Gregg. * Sign LeRon McClain. * Locked up Hali long term. This is a typical offseason for Pioli. Discipline, discipline, discipline, and hold out for value at every turn. As a result, we can say that this team has been moderately improved for 2011 by these moves alone, but that the biggest improvement will be for all this youth to see the field and as it improves, the sky's the limit. Bravo. |
2011 offseason > 2010 offseason
|
2012 Offseason = Who cares? We just won the superbowl!
|
Solid moves, if unspectacular. This is the type of offseason we should expect from Pioli every year now.
|
So we'll sign a pro bowl FB to a one year deal every year?
|
I'm eager to see what Pioli does when he wants to bring in one or two big time impact players to get us over a hump.
Could be an awesome trade in the future. |
once and awhile he will try and make the splash, at least that's what his MO was in NE, I am starting to learn toward that being more Bill though by the recent Ocho/Haynesworth signings.
but I mean, I am curious to see if by year 4 or year 5 and the team progression if he brings that Corey Dillon, Adalius Thomas type FA in on a big contract splash. |

The bigger boom-or-bust, flair signings seem to have Belichek's fingers all over them. |
Carr isn't technically a hold out until after today. Right?

Can compete this year if a few things go right (Someone else provides a pass rush besides Tamba, The tackles hold up, and Matt Cassel). Setup nicely for 2012.

WR. And ROLB. |

Oh wait.. |
I know it's popular to an extent to bash guys that are totally on board with Pioli around here, but I'm sorry. It's just too easy.
The guy, despite some questionable/poor decisions here or there, has consistently improved this team at every turn. We keep getting better and I am more excited now than ever. This offseason was ****ing great. Sure, there are parts of my wishlist left unchecked, but Pioli has done a good enough job so far to earn some credit. There are a bunch of questions this year facing such a brutal schedule, but I can't wait to see how these guys measure up against the league's best. **** I can't wait for this season to start. |
I like the way things are moving. Def going to have to keep it up. BTW, how many posts I gotta have to start a thread?

No complaints, the kind of signings I expect, so far, but still incomplete; needs a bit of o-line depth, I think.
|
As well as Pioli has done. Clark has to be on the lookout for his replacement. It's the nature of the beast. Or you end up with Peterson, who stayed twice as long as he should have
|
Are you guys ready for Pioli to trade a #1 pick in year X for a 2 in year X and a 1 in year X+1?
Ready to see him constantly sliding back in the draft to get more draft picks? NOT picking the guy on the board that YOU want (and are convinced is THE difference between winning the SB and not)? Ready to see your favorite players leave the team for more money elsewhere? Because if he's following the BB playbook, it's gonna happen. And believe me, huge portions of the fan base will NOT be happy. Some Pats fans still bitch about it, and can list EVERY player on the board that BB didn't draft who performed very well as a pro. |

Overall he's done a good job on paper this offseason.
I'm still puzzled over the NT's he's passed over in the last two drafts and the fact that he didn't draft or sign bigger named free agents for the OT positions. |

Pioli has done a solid job to get this ship headed the right direction. I'm thinking we need to remember it was BOTH the slow and steady, PLUS the occasional splash approach that get the job done for NE. That and finding the franchise QB gem in the 6th round, who was ready to shock the world in season 1.5, that had a bit to do with it too. I was already ticked this year that we didn't take Carimi @21, but after getting past that, I like what they did. Certainly takes the luster off that Houston is still holding out, i'll be frank on that one! Overall tho, if we can make some moves to keep multiple picks stacked for next year, allowing maximum flexibility, I'm totally on board with it. But I definitely think BB goes overboard, at least I hope it's more BB than SP. |

WHY did we pass on Clay Matthews? Our pass rush sucks and we trade away from the pick? WTF? Why do we never draft an OLB. How can you run a 3-4 withou a decent OLB? How can you win in the playoffs without a decent pass rush? How can you go 14-2 and then lose your first playoff game at home to the ****ing Jets? It's endless, and I'm 1,000% sure that an equally large percentage of Chiefs fans would do the exact same thing in our shoes. I tend to give BB all the benefit of doubt in the world, but sliding back in the draft is never fun, and trading picks into next year isn't exciting. |

I wouldn't know why Pioli would want to leave at some point except for maybe to head back East? |

Two, at some point they need to start drafting talent instead of trading down "for next year." I feel your pain. Then why did they release their leading sacker from last season? |
I wonder what Pioli's approval rating will be at the end of December after KC faces a brutal schedule and likely goes 2-5.
|

I like the direction of the team.....but a lot of this team is still really young and our schedule is rough. Even with these signings.....I'm still looking at anywhere from 7-9 to 9-7. |

EDIT: Oh and I do think that late season bashing will fall on Cassel's shoulders, not Pioli. jmo |
To me the biggest issue that remains unresolved from last year is what happened to the offense the last 3 weeks.
Once it was announced that Weis was leaving the offense became anemic and the playcalling questionable. Did Weis mail it in? Did Haley take over the playcalling? I'm hoping Weis mailed it in, because if it was Todd's fault, KC could be in for a world of hurt his year. |

And I am predicting 11-5 or better this year... |
Quote:
If they win that many games with the schedule they have, they're a legitimate threat for the championship. |
Quote:
If they dont make it? So what? Cant they do it? Sure why not... Everyone wants to cry about the schedule, but lots of things change in the NFL year after year... Not one person here knows the seasons outcome.... Sure its easy and convenient to play the "they suck" and "I told you so" at the end, but I think they have a chance to be a pretty solid ball club this year. For sure a team on the rise, excited about this season. I was to see where we stack up with the big boys... |
