Rudy Niswanger to the Lions

Not that anyone cares but Niswanger to the Lions.

I was just writing a story looking at where some of the Kansas City Chiefs unsigned free agents were headed. We have DE Shaun Smith to the Titans, DT Ron Edwards to the Panthers and CB Maurice Leggett to the Lions.
Now we can add another to the list: G/C Rudy Niswanger to the Lions. This according to Aaron Wilson of Scout.com. Niswanger becomes, from what I can tell, the fourth player that left the Chiefs this season to sign with another team.
The KC connection in Detroit is Lions defensive coordinator Gunther Cunningham. The actual connection, as Wilson points out, is Niswanger's college offensive line coach being in Detroit.
Niswanger entered the league in 2006 as an undrafted free agent and spent three years as a reserve and two years as a starter at center for the Chiefs. He was the bridge between C Casey Wiegmann's departure and his return two years later.
Niswanger was the Chiefs player rep which became an important role over the last year. He was the main line of communication between the high-level labor negotiations and the rest of the Chiefs players.
Glad to hear Niswanger caught on with another team.

JohnnyV13 08-10-2011 08:21 AM

How long will it be before they sign Brokie?

Saul Good 08-10-2011 08:25 AM

Who did the Chiefs sign with the pick we got from the Lions for tampering?

Mama Hip Rockets 08-10-2011 08:26 AM

:bravo:

Rudy, you always sucked, and so did your name. Good riddance.

morphius 08-10-2011 08:27 AM

They will probably be smart enough to try him as a guard, well, if it wasn't the Lions they would.

boogblaster 08-10-2011 09:07 AM

he was too tall to play the center position .. plus he couldnt block for shit ....

gblowfish 08-10-2011 09:13 AM

Notice how anybody who had anything to do with the NFLPA during the lockout is now GONE from the Chiefs? Vrabel, Waters, Niswanger, all gone.

Who says Clark Hunt can't bust a union?

Yup... had nothing to do with the fact that Niswanger was completely useless at Center, Vrabel's request to use a walker on the field was denied, and Waters talent retired along with Roaf.

It's just to bad that they keep signing guards when they have no tackles.

There are several quality centers that are 6'4"

it's talent, not his height ... although being tall makes knee bend even more important.

I want to say it was Bannan? Or maybe we used it to trade up in one of the rounds. I can't remember.

Powe's 199 was a compensatory, I know

We're turning into New England, they're turning into Carl's Chiefs. I guess it's still a step up to them. Actually, I don't know if any of that is true. I'm just typing stuff...

KurtCobain 08-10-2011 11:30 AM

Did you guys know the Miami is Dallas North?

Micjones 08-10-2011 01:38 PM

Wasn't a very good Center, but he was solid at Guard. Wish we had kept him around for Offensive Line depth...if nothing else.

I really don't know what the Chiefs plans are, but I would venture to guess that Daryl Harris and Ridney Hudson are going to provide depth at all three interior positions, and, while Niswanger was capable at guard, both Harris and Hudson are better.

ROFL

I have to say for a team that has had bad ass player names like Lanier, Lynch, Taylor, Hali, etc. Rudy had the most Un-Chiefs-like name ever.

Pasta Little Brioni 08-10-2011 04:39 PM

Lions released C Rudy Niswanger.Signed three weeks ago, Niswanger couldn't lock down a roster spot despite some injury issues along Detroit's offensive line. Just two years removed from being a 16-game starter for the Chiefs, he should be able to crack someone's roster this season. Sep 3 - 1:10 PM

Awwww poor Rudy. Anywhere but back here.

Pasta Little Brioni 09-03-2011 11:33 AM

Shocking. Look at all the former "starters" this team had that can't even find a spot on the bottom of team's rosters.

Exept for the stud QB.

Everyones said, i've said it, but an elite QB is a MUST if a team wants to be in the hunt consistently... right now we're just treading water.

Hell I'd take their last year's back up QB over Palko in a heartbeat. And I might even be thinking about two different guys too.
