Terrelle Pryor anyone?

it wasn't his fault, it was the system trying to keep him down

The Franchise 08-18-2011 11:51 AM

No.

ChiefsCountry 08-18-2011 11:55 AM

Buffalo would make alot of sense for Pryor. He would fit Chan Gailey's mold for a QB, no real pressure to play right away with Fitzpatrick and Thiggy.

L.A. Chieffan 08-18-2011 11:55 AM

ya hes a niner fo sho

maybe he can be our wildcat guy and losing Palko doesn't mean shit.

I agree. Inaccurate QB to compete with Tyler Thigpen who's also inaccurate.

If he wants to play a Dallas Clark type of role otherwise I wouldn't give a used jock strap for him as a QB.

Per the NFL's release, Pryor is eligible to be selected in the supplemental draft, but he will NOT be allowed to practice or play in the first five games of the 2011 season.

Forcing Pryor to remain off the field for roughly a third of the season will have a definite impact on his draft stock. I've spoken to several teams with interest in the dynamic running/passing threat, with many teams suggesting that a middle round pick was likely needed to secure his services. Ineligible to play for that long could push Pryor into the fifth round. Of the remaining players in the draft, McAdoo and King are the likeliest to also get drafted, though both appear to have late round prospects, at best.

BigMeatballDave 08-18-2011 12:16 PM

He should lose weight and compete as a WR. He'll never make it as a QB.

Saul Good 08-18-2011 12:19 PM

I'd use an 8th round pick on him.

Dude, honestly, this play looks unstoppable. Even if we had clones of James Hasty as our DB's, and Rod Woodson clones at safety, I don't think this is defensible?... Could be wrong.

I watch a lot of Big 10 football. A freakish athlete with a complete pea brain. If you think leadership and football smarts are unimportant, then he's your guy. He's basically Cam Newton but with half the athletic talent, and half the intelligence.

Pryor is fast, but he's more of a glider and he shies away from contact. He would rather run the ball out of bounds 5 yards before the sticks on 3rd down then take contact to get a first. Horribly inaccurate passer who throws a ball that nosedives into the ground.

He is the epitome of a QB who can only win if he's beating you with his legs. Because everything about his passing game sucks.

Hah, you must be an Ohio state fan too.

Well, from what I've seen - he doesn't get rattled under pressure like the Cassholes of the world. Throwing mechanics are definitely off, Tebow-esque even, but seems to have a much stronger arm.

Watching him last week, he moves like vick, but he's 6'6. Raiders are maybe going to win 6 games with their shoddy O-line and depth, but I kinda envy them, because the kid is ****ing electric when he's in. Me and my friend used to say Rex Grossman was the most exciting player in football because his every play seemed like either a perfect 50 yard bomb or a pick 6 or a fumble. Pryor should be the same, but with scrambles!

Chronic 08-28-2013 04:59 AM

People say he cant throw- I dunno.. he threw some pretty nice strikes last week, that one to his TE for a TD, was perfect- threaded it and put the ball where only his TE could get it-

He reminds me a lot of Randall Cunningham

yeah, his passes don't seem that bad even though his delivery can be awkward. The week before, he had a perfect deep throw under pressure that the WR couldn't hang on to.

Definitely Cunningham like. Will have to catch more Raider games this year.

ChiefGator 08-28-2013 06:02 AM

Nice interview with Pryor on NFL AM this morning. He was asked to compare himself to the read-option players in the league and he said they are more accurate then him with the ball. He identified the problem and has been trying to do everything in his power to get better at his weakness.

I'ld almost like the kid if I didn't despise Ohio State just slightly less than the Raiders.

Pryor has drastically improved his passing ability. He said something this off season about never really learning to pass the ball properly (throwing motion). Fairly crazy to think he hadn't been properly taught this from HS through college, and a few years in the pro's. I think he worked with Tom Brady's QB coach this past off season.

As far as him shying away from contact, I've seen zero evidence of that so far in his Raider career. Not sure he's the answer to the Raider QB problem long term, but if he continues to improve he might be. In any case, Pryor playing will at least make Raider football watchable in 2013.

I spent lots of time in browns country. So I've seen plenty of osu games. Pryor is what he is. He is a freakish athlete with a decent arm, horrible accuracy, and a pea brain.

The guy doesn't have the work ethic or intelligence to know the game mentally. He isn't a guy his teammates will respect. And he has horrible accuracy and throws a very ugly ball. His mechanics may have improved that, but the rest... That's not coach able.

I bet Pryor puts together a few good games, then turns into shit as either fame gets to his head or more than likely, because he doesn't have the work ethic or intelligence to figure out defenses who learn how to scheme him. I'm not even a fan of cam Newton, but he is essentially a dumber, far less accurate version of cam.

Wait, wait, wait. By all accounts from his coaches, pryor is a hard worker with a great work ethic. I don't know about his leadership per se, but from what I've seen in preseason and his 1 start, he had complete control of the huddle. Where are you getting all this stuff from?

Two seconds of googling later:
"Pryor received rave reviews from quarterbacks coach John DeFilippo after last week's rookie minicamp.

"The first thing is, everybody knows how hard he's working," DeFilippo told Comcast SportsNet Bay Area. "He's going to give himself a chance to be a good player in this league, because of his work ethic. He and I are in communication every day. He's a gym rat here in this building. He loves being here, loves talking football, loves being around, playing the game. He's getting better everyday. "

He's pulling it out of his arse for the most part, though many did feel Pryor would need to change positions in the NFL. The leadership side I think is drastically off, in Oakland anyway. Last year in the finale, you could see the team work harder for Pryor than they had for Palmer, and the same thing this year in the preseason. Players are on record as prefering Pryor, and feeling he's been a leader even when it was assumed he would be the backup QB.

Critics talk about his accuracy- It's not that bad.. his QB rating his pretty high.. Everyone wants to look at his college stats and disregard what he's doing in the NFL, and he's doing very well

I got this rot gut feeling he's gonna end up a pretty damn good QB thats gonna be real hard to defend

Raiders OL is dogshit now that Veldheer is out,,,they need to add a couple players on that OL and if McFadden can stay healthy, eh....

Those douche nozzles are 55 million under the cap next year, they are gonna go all ape sh*t on bringing in big FA's

What would really blow is if Pryor goes off but they dont win many games because of that defense then they draft Clowney and have 55 million dollars to spend in free agency

Fark me

You're basing everything on a compliment a QBs coach made about his guy. Because QB coaches have a history of saying bad things about their players. I'm actually not sure why I said I never spoke badly about OSU players. I can't remember the last OSU player I pimped out. I don't think any recently.

I will say this. It does look like he fixed his mechanics. Good for him. Maybe he has changed his behavior. Good for him. But sorry, when it comes to attitude adjustments, I've been consistently tough on players. I've been critical of Bray's attitude too and have laughed at Chiefs' fans who claim he's a changed man because coaches have talked nicely about him. So let's not pretend I'm talking about a double standard.

Pryor looked very, very sharp against Chicago. But I need to see more to believe it. What I saw in OSU is he couldn't read defenses, stared down his first read, had a knack for mind-numbingly bad decisions especially when he starts throwing on the run or tries to make cross-body throws or make the impossible happen, he tends to take off at the first sign of duress, and he was an absolute mechanical nightmare when moving around and I sense that will come out once defenses start throwing things at him. And when things go bad, and in the NFL, things can get frustratingly bad real quick... is he going to be the spoiled, pouty guy he was at OSU? We'll see. For now, I say "yes."

If he figures it out, yes, he could be a scary player. Defenses will eventually scheme him. To me, that's when we figure out if Pryor has changed. For now, good for him for earning a starting job. But it's going to take more than preseason games against 2nd and 3rd team defenses to prove he's changed.

And now you've decided us to set us straight about what's really going to happen:

Hahaha, tell us more about this Pryor, oh wise, not-at-all bitter-hypocritical-and-manipulative one

I will say this. It does look like he fixed his mechanics. Good for him. Maybe he has changed his behavior. Good for him. But sorry, when it comes to attitude adjustments, I've been consistently tough on players. Well, no, that was just the first thing that came up when I googled terrelle pryor and work ethic. I've heard that said repeatedly about him that he's a hard worker. And you have to admit, that's not a cursory "player x is a solid prospect for us." The guy goes out of his way to praise him and the work he's doing. Also, just looked at it again, and that praise was from last year.

From this year:

"During the offseason, Pryor took it upon himself to keep improving by hiring three personal QB coaches to help him work on his mechanics. Included in the trio was Tom House, a former pitcher turned QB throwing coach who has worked with many NFL quarterbacks, including Tom Brady."

And from a Bill Williamson article on espn: Allen said Pryor is one of the team’s hardest workers and that his work ethic has exceeded Allen's expectations.

As for the rest of your response, now you're talking. Before that, I was starting to wonder if you were just parroting some hackneyed stereotype bullshit about black quarterback = dumb and lazy. Didn't get to see him much in OSU so all I know is that he won a lot and then had a scandal. I think his interception in the first preseason game came from a cross-body throw through like you mentioned so that'll be interesting to see if that's just a bad habit he needs to break.

I fully expect him to struggle, but I think he'll be exciting as hell to watch just from what I've seen so far. Definitely pulling for him now and hoping Bray can turn out similarly.

It isn't backtracking. He had enormous attitude and mechanical issues in college, and was terrible at reading defenses even against inferior B1G schools. Maybe he's matured. Maybe he's fixed those problems. The preseason game is encouraging in that the mechanics look better. Reports of his work ethic are encouraging, though of course his own brass is going to talk positively about him.

But we've seen this before. Players who light it up in the preseason then look lost when the defenses start dialing it up and adjusting to your game. We've seen egos like cam Newton taste success and then the attitude comes back.

There is too much of a story still left to write. I agree that what you are seeing is encouraging. But I need to see him piece this together for a sustained period of real regular season time before I start to believe it.
