Jack In The Box

Looks like the one down on 104th and Metcalf is just about to open. I have never eaten at one, anyone here have one close to them?

listopencil 08-29-2011 10:24 PM

Used to be great, now it's crap.

crazycoffey 08-29-2011 10:26 PM

I've never eaten there sober nor have I really seen someone that has, so it's impossible to tell what the source of sickness was.

mnchiefsguy 08-29-2011 10:46 PM

Have never eaten there, so will probably check it out once just to satisfy my curiosity.

prhom 08-29-2011 10:47 PM

I think they're milkshakes are pretty tough to beat if they're done right. The iced coffee is not drinkable and I'm really not exaggerating that. The burgers are just okay, but I like the chicken pita and tacos. Breakfast is better than McDonalds depending on which restaurant you go to, since the quality is not consistent between locations. You always know what you're going to get at McDonalds, but Jack in the Box can range from good to awful. For that reason I don't usually go to them when I'm traveling because you never know when it's going to really suck.

prhom 08-29-2011 10:48 PM

Also, the cashier stole my credit card once because I forgot to get it from them when I left. When I came back the next day they denied taking it.

Witnessed this first-hand myself. Food usually tastes good, but it appears that E-Coli bacteria are also fans.

That's kinda on you...lol

I think they're ok. I just get the Jumbo Jack, no cheese.

Simply Red 08-29-2011 10:52 PM

1)Arby's
2)JITB

I personally have never seen this. I remember stories of e coli from wayyyy back in the day, but I don't think this is any more true for Jack in the Box than any other fast food joints these days. Myself, I don't eat much fast food. If I did though, I would choose JitB over just about any other establishments.

Arby's basically died to me when they got rid of their onion petals last year. I gave their loaded potato bites a try after that, and they were okay, but then they discontinued those, too. I gave up after that.

blaise 08-29-2011 10:57 PM

I don't think they heat-lamp the burgers. They claim they only cook them when you order. I don't know if that's true but their drive-thru does take longer than most.
I don't much like their fries.

I think that's a good example of the wide range a individual restaurant quality too. JITB just doesn't control the quality like McDs.

I've been to other fast food chains many thousands of times in my life. Never gotten sick or had somebody with me get sick. Been to Jack In The Box a grand total of 6 or 7, and twice have had people get so sick they were out of commission for the entire day. Separate states, separate years. This really validated for me some of the hysteria.

Bad luck I guess. In my younger days I had a party house with 3 other dudes that was right next door to one. Without exaggeration, between the people that lived there and our friends probably 30 or more individual meals a week were consumed from there without one incident.

The story said the supplier was Vons though. I guess I see it like this: Those toys with lead paint and the dog food with melamine from China were all sold by stores in the US, but who got blamed for the issue? Chinese manufacturing. Most times the source of the problem is where the blame lies, not the last one to handle it. Though in this instance they potentially could have minimized the problem by cooking the burgers more thoroughly.

I got you though, you're just passing on the info from a source. I won't blame you for sharing the article with us.

you know honestly - that was probably simple 'cross-contamination' that gave it birth. Those frozen processed patties definitely should ALWAYS be cooked fully through.

I'm not hating on them, I used to eat there a lot when I had one close by. Usually, it's because of this very reason. I want tacos, and the wife wants a burger or breakfast food. I can go to one place and get it all rather than making two stops to cover what we want.

that sounds REALLY good right now. I just think it's funny because the tacos you buy look nothing like the picture. The cheese is always melted into the meat and the grease is bleeding through the shell. They look nasty, but taste so good.

That's the weirdest thing. I hate onions, too. I won't eat them on anything. But I will eat the living hell out of a blooming onion, with that pink dipping sauce. And I would eat those onion petals like they were candy. But actual raw onion, on a burger or something? **** that shit.

Favorite thing was the Chicken, Bacon and Swiss (always crunchy, never that grilled shit). But apparently I'm the only person that ever eats chicken at my local Arby's, because I haven't been there a single time in the last 3 or 4 years where I didn't have to wait for them to cook the goddamn chicken. So I finally I said **** it and tried a roastburger, and liked those too.

their house sauce is good - mild and smooth - I'm pretty simple w/ things like taco sauce.

The cheese they use is noticeably sharper and better tasting

Last October I got food poisoning from Jack In The Box. I used to eat there alot when I lived in California kinda iffy going there since that happened

XXXshogunXXX 08-30-2011 05:39 AM

2 tacos and a chicken sandwhich, with buttermilk sauce, and sweet and sour sauce for the chicken sandwhich.

Ive been eating this since 1997, not as much as I used to though.

Los Pollos Hermanos 08-30-2011 05:57 AM

The tacos are disgustingly awesome. The burgers are good in comparison to McDonalds. And the fries are the worst in all of fast food.

My favorite at Jack in the Box is the Supreme Croissant off of the breakfast menu.

I've tried a bunch of their burgers and haven't really found anything I like.

The tacos (with ranch dressing) may be the best hangover food on the planet, however.

EDIT: I voted "high or hungover", but I'd recommend the tacos anytime.
