New Sports Authority Sign At Stadium Missing Something

http://www.thedenverchannel.com/news...88/detail.html

LMAO

DENVER -- Some Denver Broncos fans are upset about a new sign at Sports Authority Field at Mile High Stadium in Denver.

The sign says "Sports Authority Field," but is missing the "at Mile High," which is the stadium's new name. It was changed earlier this month when Sports Authority agreed to buy the naming rights and Invesco gave them up.

Broncos fans on Twitter also don't like the color.

One said it looks more the Kansas City Chief's red than Broncos orange.

Another said, "What disrespect from @SportsAuthField and its designers!"

One fan complained about the quality of the sign.

"Good to see we've dropped the big bucks on a full color banner. That's like $100 at Kinkos," said a fan on Twitter.

Sports Authority Field tweeted that they like the new signs, "Signage has started to go up in the bowl. Lookin' pretty sharp."

Sports Authority says the new sign is temporary, until the new sign, which includes "at Mile High" in installed in a week or two.

Awesome.

Rain Man 08-31-2011 01:06 PM

Elway probably got paid under the table to eliminate the "at Mile High" part. But he's still nominally working at the league minimum for GMs.

KCUnited 08-31-2011 01:09 PM

Pat Bowlen likely forgot to mention the Mile High part to them.

Dave Lane 08-31-2011 01:11 PM

Or that he was Pat Bowlen

Sofa King 08-31-2011 01:12 PM

Well. Can't have mistakes. Gonna have to tear the stadium down now.

I'll help.

Come on KnowMo said that no GM cares us much as Elway does.

Donger 08-31-2011 01:22 PM

Heh. I guess the new sign will be Broncos orange after all.

http://www.denverpost.com/news/ci_18793021

A Twitter posting by Sports Authority Field at Mile High late Tuesday afternoon promised travelers on Interstate 25, "You might notice something a little different on your drive home today."

Many did as they cruised past the new sign on the newly renamed football stadium.

The sign appears to be an off shade of the Denver Broncos' burnt orange — something closer to Kansas City Chiefs red, callers to radio sports talk shows said.

Moreover, it lacked prominent display of the sacred subtitle "At Mile High," a tribute to the beloved Mile High Stadium, the Broncos' venerable home until 2000.

Soon after the picture was posted, four users complained on the site. A Twitter user posted, "At Mile High. At Mile HIGH. . ."

Chill, Bronomaniacs.

The sign is just a temporary "banner" that holds a place until the permanent sign goes up in the next week or two, a representative for Sports Authority said Tuesday afternoon.

The new sign will include "At Mile High" and match the color of Bronco uniforms, according to the company.

Englewood-based Sports Authority made a deal to take over the naming rights for at least the next decade, with an option to renew.

Sports Authority will pay an average of $6 million a year.

DMAC 08-31-2011 01:27 PM

It only pays $6 million per year to own the naming rights to a stadium?

We should start a pool to buy the stadium naming rights and call it "Arrowhead West". Now THAT would be funny! It would teach those cheap bastards a lesson about selling out. I sure hope the Chiefs never sell naming rights to the stadium. That will be a sad day.

CaliforniaChief 08-31-2011 09:16 PM

They can't even get a sign right. Oh, how the mighty have fallen.

ForeverChiefs58 08-31-2011 09:17 PM

They might as well leave it Chiefs red, cause we are going to own them this year. :thumb:

Don't kid yourself, if the Chiefs get the right offer, there will be a name on the stadium.

Arrowhead was really close to having this slapped on it:

Who owns the naming rights anyway, is it Clark? I've wondered about this for years hoping that we wouldn't sell out like that. There aren't many stadiums left that haven't.

The Chiefs are having a hard time finding anyone willing to put up the cash. Funny (to me) but true.

If they limit us to under 250 yards rushing, they should walk off the field thinking they won.

This isn't the same shitty Defense of the last few years. They have actually looked pretty god so far. We'll see once the real games start.

I kinda like "Doom and Gloom." Miller => Gloom doesn't make complete sense, but at least it's an actual phrase that exists outside of football.

Albert is one of those guys who takes 5 years before he starts playing like he means it. Richardhead is one of those guys who you wish after a game someone would switch antifreeze with his gatorade. But I am hoping they fix them before the season starts. I am sure they will wait until after Greenbay before they get serious with it. :doh!:

You're right.

Ty Warren, Bannon and Jamaal Williams should make a big difference in your run defense.

hold on...

.....

You guys are gonna have a good pass rush, but who the **** is gonna have to pass on you?

Teams are gonna routinely get 5+ yards on first downs and thats gonna make the pass rush less effective.

Yeah, and that other guy that lead the league in sacks the last time he played. What was his name? Also, PFF rates Bunkley as the 7th best 4-3 DT in the league.

As good a pass rusher as he is, Dumervil is not helping your run defense.

Shit you guys had an awful run defense when Dumervil was healthy.

So explain why we should expect any different.

Well, we'll have a scheme that actually fits the players, rather than "a 3-4 sounds fun." We'll have a DC that looks like he actually knows what he's doing, rather than just being the last guy standing after everyone with an opinion had been shown the door. I'm not saying they'll be great, but with what was going on last year, it's hard to imagine them not improving.

You promoted a guy who has zero experience running a defense.

Let me know how that works out for you.

Hiring a succesful position coach away from another team to be a coordinator is not uncommon. What do you think Haley was doing before the Cardinals hired him as their OC?

Bwana 09-01-2011 06:37 AM

Someone needs to photoshop that into saying, "Home Of The Chiefs!"

It's an orangish (not a word???) red with Bronco blue in the background. Plus adding the mountains is a nice touch.

First of all, it's a stupid name. Second, it's red. Third, it looks like belongs on a mall or the MLB. Fourth, the white horse on top looks ridiculous.

T-post Tom 09-08-2011 11:17 AM

ESPN now reporting the permanent sign was brought in by a group of Bronco linemen. They dropped & completely destroyed the new sign. For unspecified reasons, the linemen were covered in Vasoline.

I could be wrong, but I think it's the lighting. I saw an earlier pic of it when they were in the process of putting it up, and it looked orange to me.

Now the stuff on the roof - that's red for sure.

EDIT: Here's the pic I was thinking of. Still kind of redish, I guess.

DaFace 09-08-2011 12:35 PM

On a side note, I guess I don't see why anyone would care as long as it's only in conjunction with the Sports Authority name. If they changed all the seats to red, that'd be one thing, but everyone knows it's just ads.
