Am I the only one who thinks Cowboys Stadium is ugly?

Granted I've never been there... but from the outside its nothing but glass, steel and a roof. Inside it looks like the decks other than field level are 8 miles away from the field. They have a big video board that can get in the way of punts and kickoffs which equals just plain stupid imo. On tv at least it has no personality at all. JerryWorld to me just resembles his team... flashy with no substance.

Anyone been there? Am I wrong?

Hammock Parties 09-03-2011 12:41 AM

Outside is very cool:

Inside it has 0 aesthetic appeal.

Football stadiums imo just don't have the personality of baseball stadiums imo. Nature of the beast I suppose. I thought Arrowhead was ugly as sin before it was renovated (from the outside mostly... poured concrete... yuck). Now it's poured concrete with some steel and glass. Still ugly but only better because some of the concrete is hidden.

Truth, but at least Arrowhead kept its iconic look, and upgraded all the facilities to be on par with the new stadiums. 8 days, and I'll be there:D. I know you live in IL, have you ever been to a Chiefs game? I figure you've seen the K since they redid it? I have always loved that ballpark and it got 100 times better. I've been to Petco, Angels Stadium, Old and New STL, HOU, Old NYY. Would like to check out Wrigley, Fenway, and MN's new diggs sometime. Mostly because MINN always represents when they are in town and I wonder if we represent at all up there.

Buck 09-03-2011 01:17 AM

Either us or the Vikings have the worst stadium. Maybe the Rams?

Arrowheads iconic look is worth something yes. Yes I've been to plenty of Chiefs games. Yes The K went from awesome to more awesome with the renovations (although the outside was pretty ugly before the renovations but the combination of some modern look with glass/steel along with the "Royals" being etched into the steel on both sides is a nice balance for me). The inside of The K went from great to outstanding imo with the renovations.

Be aware tho... I'm the Royals/baseball fan here on a football board so my opinions often differ.

I like the design of the Seahawks stadium but how about some color on the seats.... it adds/takes away from the overall look.

I've gathered you're a baseball guy, football is my number one, but I know where you're coming from. I like going to other baseball stadiums a lot more than football. I caught a NYG vs. AZ game a couple years ago in NY (NJ), before the new stadium. It wasn't the same at all when I've been to other ball parks and seen 2 random teams go (HOU - CHI, SD and Someone, Angels - Tigers I think).

Although I've heard that the NYG is the wine and cheese crowd, so maybe that had something to do with it, they also lost though and were pretty defeated, thinking they should have whipped the Cardinals. I'm sure the crowd plus the fact that their stadium was complete shit didn't really make it a great experience for a couple of random business travelers. At least it was a good game, Eli threw a pick on a game tying or winning drive in the final moments of the game and they lost...ha ha **** you New York.

I can't really explain it other than to say I feel like there should be a Starbucks nearby when I walk in. The escalators don't help. As we've discussed before though there are some things I like about EJD.

The EJ Dome was built before 22 stadiums were built and renovated. It's a bit outdated, yes, but I think the upgrades have improved it a bit. I expect a massive renovation within the next few seasons.

Hammock Parties 09-03-2011 01:33 AM

Rule of thumb: if you take the logos and colors off a stadium and can't ID the home team, it sucks hard.

Exception to this rule: Oakland Coliseum

See, what I liked about Kauffman was the waterfalls and the scoreboard. Both really nice.

But Coors had more of an atmosphere when I went, outside of the stadium. Not to mention it has what I think is a great skyline.

Re-building = re-suck. KU football is a joke and I know it. Luckily I don't care much. Would it be nice to win? Sure. But I love baseball and basketball. KU being good at football would just be icing.

Dr. Gigglepants 09-03-2011 02:18 AM

Icing for us too. I have never in my life experienced anything like the 2007 game, the build up, the game itself, the payoff, the crushing defeat to OU in San Antonio. Which I made the trek too. Travelling long long distances in a car to see that type of game...is not a good experience.

Edit for relevance: The Alamodome is a dome of suck in which to watch a football game.

MU is always good at football. I may not be an MU fan but I can recognize a good program. MU has deserved better bowls than they've gotten a couple of times. KU..... we love basketball and usually get out hearts broken there too.

Ever been to the Phog? I haven't, would love to go someday. If they ever get a new place I will kick myself for the rest of my life for having been so close all these years and never going. I'd rather go there for any other game than Mizzou. I would probably enjoy it more if it we KU versus anyone else. The thing I love about KU (and others hate) is that even if we lose we still believe in our team and believe we're #1. Most rival fans take that as arrogance but it isn't... it's just faith in team and being proud to chant rock chalk.

lol... you probably dont believe me and thats fine. That's what makes the rivalry great. I can tell you as a lifelong Jayhawk we know we can lose any game. We expect to be perfect and I don't think that's arrogance we just believe. It's not disrespect to anyone else we just want to be champions so believe we should win every game. We never have though.

No problem with that, growing up I had so much respect for our program, and always thought we deserved to get the national attention we got in the big 8 days. But damn we've fallen hard it seems. Honestly, the new arena doesn't help for me. I've been there since I left school, the atmosphere is just not even close to Hearnes. Mizzou Arena is nice as hell, but it has no personality. Even though we had a dominant home record under Mike Anderson and all, it's not as fun as Hearnes. It was just so damn loud in there.

Dr. Johnny Fever 09-03-2011 03:17 AM

Too bad they don't have good product on the field to support it lol

Back to the topic at hand, the Cowboys stadium is remarkably ugly and awful.

After seeing these new stadiums. It makes me realize how fortunate we are to have Arrowhead. I like soldier field also.

If we're sticking strictly to football, then I'm a big fan of Quest, Gillette, Heinz and The Link.

Reliant is the best domed stadium I've been in. I hear Ford Field is nice as well.

FWIW, I know a couple of guys that travel extensively to NFL and MLB games, and they all say that PNC Park in Pittsburgh is the best stadium in professional sports.

I like Cowboys stadium well enough. You have to admit that jumbotron or whatever they call it is simply amazing.

I find the technology in this one out of this world. A rolling field? Incredible.

The charm of Wrigley is tough to beat.

I simply love Camden Yards. Awesome place to see a baseball game.

But give me Arrowhead any day over any of these!

JerryWorld to me just resembles his team... flashy with no substance.

Anyone been there? Am I wrong?

Only half wrong...;) I've been to a few Cowboy games and IMO the stadium is pretty darn cool form the outside - especially at night. However, the inside is nothing special. It all looks kinda generic. The HUGE scoreboard looks very odd. Anyway, just my opinion.

Besides ARROWHEAD - my favorite stadium that I've seen in person is the Seahawks Stadium. It's also very high tech. Other cool stadiums I've been to are Soldier Field and Lambeau. Both very cool, especially Soldier Field.

My absolute LEAST favorite that I've been to is INVESCO. Every time I look at it, I get dizzy. It looks awkwardly lopsided from every reference point - Again just my opinion.

I compare it to the mothership in Independence Day. My favorite fact about Cowboys Stadium is that it's literally across the street from a Wal-Mart.
