booger 09-04-2011 10:38 AM

could wind up in dungver they have #2 priority in the waiver claims for the first few(not sure how many) weeks of the season. Plus Fox drafted him obviously that is the main connection

Dave Lane 09-04-2011 10:46 AM

Was this the painters that released him? If so I could use him I have a job for him.

booger 09-04-2011 11:10 AM

I wouldn't be upset if they claimed him for a shot at OLB. Have Studebaker get some snaps behind Belcher because Williams and Greenwood are 230 and 235, too light for a Mike Backer.

Plus i think Brown has more of a chance to make something out of his career than the long line of busts of Maybin, Ghouston, Jarvis Moss, and Derrick Harvey.

MIAdragon 09-04-2011 11:10 AM

a 3-4 team looking for an OLB should give him a look.

kstater 09-04-2011 11:13 AM

I thought early second round picks were supposed to be HOF'ers?

beach tribe 09-04-2011 11:13 AM

Another one of mecca's dream picks

aturnis 09-04-2011 11:15 AM

Selvie, and not Brown. Damn.

Dr. Johnny Fever 09-04-2011 11:16 AM

Are you sure this news was ok to post as a new thread? I mean there's a chance it could be buried in some other thread right? I hope you thoroughly exhausted all other functions including search, pming everyone on the board and simply reading all other posts ever made mister!

Not horrible numbers. 6 sacks first two years. I can see the dissapointment for sure but one could argue it's too soon to give up on the guy. Just depends on their situation. Teams got to make tough choices on roster spots.

LMAO McCluster has to go for a 1000 plus every year to be worth the selection, while scores of 2nds are sent to the streets.

MIAdragon 09-04-2011 11:19 AM

its sad this guy has 5 more sacks than TJax

sad that a 3-4 OLB has more sacks than a 3-4 DE? not really. it's about right, actually. tamba hali will ALWAYS have higher sack numbers than glenn dorsey or tyson jackson when he's healthy.

Okie_Apparition 09-04-2011 11:39 AM

I was watching the re-air on NFLN before the tv went tits up & TJ was showing alot of effort out there

Thats all well and good, if the Panthers ran a 3-4 and used him as an OLD, they run a 4-3 and he was a DE.

And what do 3-4 DE's do differently than 4-3 DE's?

if we ran a 4-3, tyson jackson would be a DT. for comparison's sake, dan saleamua never had more sacks than neil smith.

Yea, this needed it's own thread.

I hate how everyone doesn't understand that DL and OL take time to develop in the NFL. Its not like they just step into that big of a role in 3-4 defense ( or a shitty offense )and are expected to be great. TJ will eventually come around..probably about the middle of this season. Only guys like Eric berry make immediate impacts. Give him time. Dorsey started to come around at the end of last year and TJ will this year. Look for them both to have good years.

We are good at starting DE but Everrette Brown has to be better than Derrick Harvey or Jason Hunter.

Are you feeling alright?

That's the least dumbass homerstic post you've ever made.

Are you sure they aren't the next Jason Taylor and Jovan Kearse?

Everette Brown is Robert Ayers without the Senior Bowl showing that Ayers had. By which I mean they both have good short area speed and a lack of explosion/power and horrible lateral agility.

prhom 09-04-2011 09:55 PM

Why does the thread title in the Lounge say "Panters" when the thread title here says "Panthers"?

Robert Ayers is the exact opposite of Everette Brown. Ayers is a strong/powerful run defender who isn't a good passrusher, Brown is a good passrusher who isn't good against the run.

Brown is not a good passrusher which was the same point I was making about Ayers. I don't care if you think he's a good run defender--this is also more about playing with leverage than his explosive power--my point was about the things they both lack as passrushers which is what they were both drafted as. If Robert Ayers doesn't blow up the Senior Bowl nobody would've touched him in the first round, not even McFistpump. Frank Zombo can set an edge you don't spend #18 overall on a passrusher who's qualifications are "guy that can set an edge" there are plenty of UDFAs that can do that.

ShowtimeSBMVP 09-05-2011 04:53 PM

Former Panthers DE Everette Brown passed through waivers unclaimed Monday and is now an unrestricted free agent.
Brown only had a $480K salary, so the league must know something about him we don't. The 43rd pick in the 2009 draft, Brown has flashed explosive rush ability but is a complete zero against the run. He needs to go to a 3-4 team.

Dante84 09-05-2011 05:56 PM

I wanted him so bad coming out of the draft.

Our Outside LB's would be pretty disgusting if he panned out.

Tamba / Sheffield / Houston / Brown / stud-a-bay bay.

Then all we need on defense is another MLB, MLB depth, NT depth, and Safety depth.

Yeah.

Sounds like a lot all listed out... but 3/4 of it is depth.

That means we've got almost all of our starting spots filled with legit players.

Mr. Laz 09-05-2011 06:33 PM

How many OLB's can we put on the field at once?

We need a dam stud ILB.
