If not Luck...

While we may be in position to pick up Luck in the draft, my guess is we'll have a high pick, but maybe not the TOP pick. What about Landry Jones or Matt Barkley? Jones stock seems to be skyrocketing with every passing week, and Barkley's has always been relatively high. If we can't get Luck, I'd love to have one of these guys, especially Jones.

Mr_Tomahawk 09-17-2011 07:01 AM

Isn't Barkley a junior who is expected to finish school and stay his senior year...better chances of being #1 next year?

Chiefs=Champions 09-17-2011 07:07 AM

I just want to at least attempt to draft a 1st round QB. Luck would be a wet dream come true.

Quesadilla Joe 09-17-2011 07:40 AM

There is no way in hell the Chiefs can outsuck the Seahawks.

dilligaf 09-17-2011 08:00 AM

How about Kelen Moore. Very accurate and makes good decisions. All he does is win games.

No to Landry or Barkley.

I have watched every OU game for the last decade. My OU friends and I comment on how "blah" Landry looks, but when they show the stat line we are amazed. It doesn't take long to figure out why he looks very average but puts up big numbers:

Landry is a QB that throws the short shit that his 4 and 5-star receivers turn into big plays.

Cassel is a QB that throws the short shit (rather inaccurately) that his WR's get blown up on.

I am scared of Barkley since he is a elite QB from and elite football school. How many of those guys actually turn out to be any good when they get to the NFL? Great NFL QB's fight for everything the get in college.

What about Foles from Arizona? Some people speak highly of him. Just a thought in case we don't "Luck" out and get the #1 pick or if we are unwilling to give up what it takes to get Luck (which given Pioli's history we shouldn't expect the Chiefs to do that).

Why do say that? Another poster said that great NfL QBs fight for everything they get in college. I've watched almost every game More has played. The only downside I see is that he looks like Elway!:D

My #2 guy, though, admittedly, I haven't seen much of Jones. Barkley is too inconsistent for my taste.

It's Foles vs Luck tonight on ESPN at 8 PM Eastern, BTW.

Well Fruck dude. We just spent a offseason debating shit like this, it was getting tiresome and boring...

Now one ****ing game in and every ****ing little dick is wanting to just give up and starting talking about next years draft... And talk about a guy we have less thant 10% chance of actually possibly considering much less aquire...

Its like beating your dick with a meat tenderizer... Its not really a good idea, but you want to try it anyway...

Moore seems like a dark horse in the draft... He should be a mid to late first round QB. No hype around him, he just goes out, does what needs to be done....

Moore doesn't have an NFL build. Listed at 6' and 190 pounds means he's an inch or so shorter and 10lbs lighter.

As I've already posted. Same size as Drew Brees.

'Hamas' Jenkins 09-17-2011 09:50 AM

I was driving through the bank yesterday when McShay came on ESPN radio to talk about the game between OU and Free Shoes U. He mentioned that in one game he watched of Landry Jones on film in which he threw 32 passes, he made five deep "drops", the other 27 were all bubble screens, HB screens, or quick hitters.

That's what would scare me about him as a prospect. What do you know that he can actually do throwing intermediate and deep routes?

Sounds too Casselian for my tastes.

Mr. Flopnuts 09-17-2011 09:53 AM

Ricky Stanzi has all the tools. I think we already have our franchise QB. We'll see if he puts in the work to make it happen.

MahiMike 09-17-2011 09:54 AM

So does this mean we missed the plethora of QB's by 1 year? seems like half the crummy teams got their QB this year.

Luck's numbers for last year and this year
last year---263 372 3338 70.7 8.97 32 8 170.2
this year---37 54 461 68.5 8.54 6 1 173.2

Nick Foles numbers for last year and this year
last year---286 426 3191 67.1 7.49 20 10 140.9
this year---71 93 810 76.3 8.71 6 0 170.8

I follow Pac-12 sports regularly since I used to live in Tucson and stay up to watch U of A whenever I can. If we cannot get Luck (which I do not see us doing), and we use our first draft pick on a quarter back, I think that Nick would be a great addition, since he does have a great touch on throwing the long ball and fade routes to the corner of the end zone to the receivers.

he can make hit the swing pass as well... But I believe we need a quarterback that starts to go downfield more often.. to make the swing pass less predictable.

Not impressed by Landry last night.

Chiefnj2 09-18-2011 07:00 AM

Luck, Foles (!st half last night) and Landry all threw lots of short passes last night. If you want to watch a college game and be impressed by downfield passing the team is going to have to play a patsy or be more of a spread attack.

Foles is tough to evaluate since his team isn't all that great on the OL.

A good GM/HC would start preparing Stanzi to start the last 8 games of the year to see if he has anything in the event we don't get Luck.

But we won't do that.

Horror scenario: We go 1-15 and hold on to Cassel just in case we don't get Luck, we lose some dumb tiebreaker and draft 2nd, don't get Luck, trade down and pick up a RT, and start Cassel.

I don't know. The vibe from this game, from Cassel's look on the sideline, to the tone Haley said some things in his presser with, I am thinking there might be a chance. I was a believer we wouldn't this year, but I got some hope today. Didn't hurt that Palko threw the worst throw of all time towards the sideline.

I understand this and would support it if the offseason weren't shortened. I fully believe that we need to let him practice and for God's sake make him active. Because 2/2 of our games we could have gave him some NFL experience. But we are activating players like Becht and Battle. UGH!!!

Barret 09-18-2011 11:54 PM

My question is this, Why is both Stanzi and Powe inactive?? Last yer we had almost all the rookies in the games and playing. I understand you can't have Stanzi in when you are still tied to Cassel but if you are getting blown out, why not get them adjusted to the NFL speed?

If not Luck, then best QB available.

Unless Cassel shows a jaw-dropping leap in improvement over the rest of the season, against good teams, it is clear we need to accept that the guaranteed portion of his contract is a sunk cost and move on.

There's a huge difference between 2 or 3 wins. We will probably lose every tiebreaker, we have to be the clear-cut crappiest team in the NFL, no ties.

It can be done with 3 wins, but there's many years with more than one 3-win team. We need to be 1-15 or 2-14 to be relatively safe.
