Rumors on Cassel and Haley

http://kan.scout.com/2/1108098.html

Quote:

There were rumblings a few months ago that the organization had soured on Cassel. This week, we heard that Cassel, like his head coach Todd Haley, wasn’t getting the warm and fuzzy feeling from management AKA Chiefs general manager Scott Pioli.

Based on that, the Chiefs may already be on the Andrew Luck watch
Quote:

More losses are coming. The Chiefs and their head coach, the embattled Todd Haley, are about to find out just how tight the noose gets. We’ve already heard names such as Bill Cowher, Jon Gruden and Kirk Ferentz linked to the Chiefs.

I can’t see Pioli firing Haley until he has a firm commitment that a big name coaching talent has agreed in principle to join the team in January. In the event Haley is fired midseason, we’ve been told defensive coordinator Romeo Crennel will accept a temporary coaching position for the remainder of the season .

Demonpenz 09-18-2011 09:17 PM

hell yeah I would take Romeo. We would pound the rock and play defense

Bwana 09-18-2011 09:18 PM

BS. Trying to bank on the mess of last night, some people will write anything.

So if Todd knows he's going to get fired, why not do what we wanted to do when he had Brodie Croyle and that's play the QB you like. But Scott told him no.

What does he have to lose? Why not.

My bro in law is a Browns fan--they call Romeo "Dove Bar" and he's hated there.

If we're going to flame out, let's flame out with glory. No changes, other than to ensure that we get Andrew Luck.

Okie_Apparition 09-18-2011 09:23 PM

Throwing out Haley with the Cassel water?
It's fail & someone needs to pay

WV 09-18-2011 09:24 PM

Oh well hell if that's what Nick the Thief heard then it's in stone...............................LOL! You may as well link to the enquirer, hell the enquirer may have better intel.

DeezNutz 09-18-2011 09:24 PM

It's pretty simple, in my view: if we continue to be ****ing embarrassed and set historic marks for ineptitude, Haley will be fired before or during the bye week. I don't think it's a given that he gets the rest of the season if the current trend continues.

The Franchise 09-18-2011 09:24 PM

So Mike Shannahan has already signed.....right?

tk13 09-18-2011 09:24 PM

Amazing thing is three weeks ago it would've been laughable to suggest Haley would be fired at all.

Bewbies 09-18-2011 09:25 PM

If the org has soured on Cassel there is reason to party.

This...

The last thing I want (as odd as it may be) is for this team to get motivated behind an interim HC and QB to rack up 3-4 wins to get us out of the running for Luck.

Make Haley and Cassel finish the season...

Sorry... but if Haley is fired, that's the front office's way of blaming other people for their mistakes. Haley can only coach what he's given. If the front office is souring on Cassel, isn't that their way of saying "we gave you the wrong pieces to work with"?

Ferentz may work with Pioli, but the other two would not. Also, time-line doesn't make sense. Soured on Cassel a few months ago...during the middle of the summer during the lockout? And we essentially have no backup quarterback. Soured on Cassel and went into the season with Palko as #2?

Pioli is so smart he knew we might lose out on Luck if we have a backup QB capable of playing in high school.

Ferentz always said he wanted to stay at Iowa till his son graduates and this is his last year.

I dont know how the contract part would work out, though.

Ferentz is signed to coach Iowa till 2020.

I am a big Haley fan and think firing him while sticking with Cassel would be a gigantic mistake.

They need to prep Stanzi to start after the bye and draft Luck.

tecumseh 09-18-2011 09:44 PM

I don' t believe this is the thinking in the FO. Regardless of the poor play, the season is still young AND no one at that level wants to admit they are wrong. Perhaps we revisit this in November.

Yeah Ferentz and Stanzi... there is a future we can all look forward to... NOT.

Ferentz is an average college coach... at best. Whenever Iowa has an ounce of expectations his teams usually choke.

No way, paint drying is something you can count on. There's no counting on Matt Cassel.

Haley's a head case. Hence, the revolving door at OC.

CaliforniaChief 09-18-2011 09:49 PM

Wait and see if anyone loses a starting QB. Trade Cassel for a mid-late round pick and start Dick Stanzi for the rest of the year.

If we start winning, then maybe we've got our guy.
If we don't, then we know we'll get our guy.

You'd think, but there is just too much chatter coming from guys like Schefter and Harlan about problems within organization. Haley's gone and he knows it. Very strange, given our playoff berth last year for there to be problems in the offseason between Haley and Pioli.

mcaj22 09-18-2011 09:50 PM

I think you are right here and have you already seen the point spread for next weeks game 15. That tells you everything this thing is a sinking ship and we are going to go get blasted next week. I hope people don't show up to the game vs the Vikings and set a standard that we aren't going to watch crap. They need to put Stanzi in and see what he can do if they keep losing the way i predict they will. Just like everyone on this board i am a huge chiefs fan and it pains me to say that i might not watch another game this year. You were all right about Cassel he isn't the answer and ill eat crow for that. But i think Haley is gone and we are now a strong player in the Luck sweepstakes. I hate to say this but i want them to lose and keep losing and draft him.

Can't be the root because he didn't trade for himself.

whoman69 09-18-2011 10:11 PM

If Haley wants to keep his job, the only way he can do that is to cut bait and demote Check Down no matter what the GM says.

% chance that Haley gets fired if he sticks with Check Down- 100
% chance that Haley gets fired with someone else behind center- less than 100

He's not the root of all problems. There are obvious holes on D and with the o-line, but he is not part of the solution.

There was a draft that year, too.

Thigpen would have simply been a less expensive Cassel, so he definitely should have been viewed as a viable option. If you're going to be shitty, at least don't overspend for it.

Otter 09-18-2011 10:15 PM

Pioli isn't a knee jerk reaction kind of guy.

It's gonna be suck and lots of with no changes until the end of the season if it evens happens then. Get used to it and hope your fantasy football team does good.

If what I'm reading about Haley driving off Weis is true he's been taken down a couple notches. Gotta read into that more.

Ace Gunner 09-18-2011 10:15 PM

they scored like 1 point the last 10 games. Cassel is the problem much more than anyone else. No guts, no glory. He's pathetic.

He is. No ****ing way does Buffalo and Detroit put up near that many points if we have a good QB.

Look at all the yardage the Packers D is giving up.

Look at who they have at QB.

Point is, regardless of what other phases of your team is doing, as long as you can put up points, you can win. That goes back to the QB position.

Its not easy for a D to overcome 6 turnovers and a completely ineffective QB.

If Haley is fired, so be it. Milkman has mentioned this several times, and I whole-heartedly agree. It is the Coordinators and other coaches job to conform with the HC. Period. Get on board or get the **** out.

Yep. Hopefully the move would resemble ol Billy's disaster in Cleveland turning into gold in NE (since we'd have the key to the patriot way, a franchise QB).

Sadly there are alot of people that dont see it like that and refuse to see it like that.

FOOTBALL all starts with the QB. IF you dont have a qb you got nothing. ITs very very very very very rare that something special like a SB happens without won. Year in and year out, elite qb's are playing for the Lombardi.

Back to back winning seasons died when Green got the concussion. Since then it's been untalented QBs & loosing. Thigpen still has fans  Grbac was even talented. Cassel is trash

Yes, because this is all on Haley.

Great teams overcome injury. You know why? Because they have great QBs that can win regardless of who you put around them. Cassel struggles even when you put guys around him.
