Chiefs Add A Running Back To The Practice Squad
by Joel Thorman on Oct 5, 2011 8:21 AM CDT

The Kansas City Chiefs announced they've signed RB Shaun Draughn to the practice squad. To make room for him, OT Butch Lewis was released.

Draughn entered the league as an undrafted free agent this year joining the Washington Redskins before training camp and getting released at the final cut down. Lewis originally came to the Chiefs as an undrafted free agent this year.

The 6'0", 205 pound running back went to North Carolina (originally as a safety). Here's a little bit from the Chiefs release:

He produced 451 carries for 2,070 yards (4.6 avg.) with 10 touchdowns and caught 50 passes for 268 yards (5.4 avg.) with a score at North Carolina. The Tarboro, N.C. native was a three-year starter at Tarboro High School where he rushed for 1,452 yards and 21 touchdowns as a senior.

Here's his NFL Draft Scout bio.

He'll be on the practice squad -- not the active roster -- so the Chiefs running back situation on gameday remains the same.

He used to kill us when he played for the broncos.

I don't know why the Chiefs don't go sign Ahmad Black off of the Bucs PS.

Because they'd have to cut someone from the 53 man roster for a 4th string RB maybe?

Really?

I would think they'd cut Sabby or McGraw so they could sign the Bucs PS safety..

If you read the op you'd see that his first name is "Shane", which eliminates the possibility of his first name being Ruben.

FWIW, Ruben's last name was spelled Droughns.

Even if he had, Ruben had been on an active roster far too long to be a PS candidate.

Stay down Butch

durtyrute 10-05-2011 10:58 AM

Sounds like Sean Jean.....Shaun Draughn

Pasta Little Brioni 10-05-2011 01:12 PM

Now, now we all know if Reuben was to re-enter the league it would be with his butt buddy the Rat.

whoman69 10-05-2011 01:43 PM

I have to wonder how terrible Lewis is that with the lack of depth we have on the oline they are cutting him for a 4th string rb who will never see the field.

It probably means nothing really...Haley rotates these guys in and out of the practice squad every week, as i suspect alot of teams do.

Bump 10-05-2011 02:01 PM

My name is Shaun Draughn
and I'm about to yawn
at this boring offense
don't take offense
I'm on the team
bout to get paid
time to get laid
To the Gat damn ship

Totally random question here, but say we have the 5th overall pick in the draft. Would you trade Jamaal Charles and next years 1st round pick for Luck?

In a nanosecond. Draft Luck #1, trade down out of #5 for an extra pick in 2012 or 2013.

His question was intended to mean that #5 overall pick.

Sure. Either way. RBs are a dime a dozen and franchise QBs are not.

lcarus 10-05-2011 06:18 PM

I figured everyone would say yes to that question but what the heck. Hypotheticals are fun. How about the #5 1st round pick, Charles, Hali, and next years 1st and 2nd?

......and we have to stick with McGraw and Piscitelli as our starting safeties for the next 2 seasons. Berry can play on special teams.

BossChief 10-05-2011 06:18 PM

Id give this whole draft, Jamaal Charles AND a 1st rounder for Andrew Luck.

Its time to go ALL IN for a ****ing quarterback, muther****ers!

lcarus 10-05-2011 06:20 PM

...and Todd Haley has to wear a tutu and inhale helium before answering every question at each press conference.
