FX may not be in DirecTV after October 31..

God, this would suck on several levels..

There could be bad news ahead for fans of certain Fox cable channel series who use DirecTV. The network’s carriage agreement with the digital broadcast satellite service expired at the end of last months and since things haven’t been cleared up between Fox and DirecTV, the service may be dropping a number of channels as of November 1st.

Deadline posted the updated, including the statements made by Fox Networks and DirecTV. Fox states that while they offered an extension during the negotiations, DirecTV has announced that they will be dropping Fox’s cable networks as of November 1st if Fox doesn’t meet their demands. The affected channels included FX, National Geographic, Speed, Fuel TV, Fox Soccer, Fox Movie Channel, Fox Deportes, and 19 Fox regional sports networks. As Deadline notes, this happened a year ago with Dish and the channels did go dark until the service and Fox could come to a new agreement.

Looking at my ridiculously high cable bill, I can’t help but wish that issues like these would somehow benefit us, but a combination of realism and pessimism has me believing it’s paying subscribers who will end up paying for this in the long run. In the meantime, those of you who were looking forward to watching more Sons of Anarchy, The League, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and American Horror Story may end up having to go without come next month if you’re a DirecTV subscriber (and locked into a contract).

That would be decidedly obnoxious.

jlscorpio 10-21-2011 11:00 PM

SoA by itself is enough to make this suck

okcchief 10-21-2011 11:14 PM

**** that shit. Does it not void the contract if they drop that many channels? I will be ****ing pissed if this goes down. Guess I'll be downloading torrents and going to friends houses for some games.

kcxiv 10-22-2011 12:11 AM

it doesnt void your contract, i m sure in a fine print somewhere where none of us have ever read, its covered. It sux to lose Fx if it happens, but its not that serious with torrents out there.

Lzen 10-22-2011 07:44 AM

That's some BS. It was partly the reason I left Dish last year. Of course, I'm still under contract with Dtv for another year. I really don't care about FX, but I do watch Nat. Geo and football on FSN.

AT&T Uverse fo life b#tches

cabletech94 10-22-2011 09:40 AM

there will be an 11th hour save (probably). this is how it usually happens. both with dish and cable.
1 says they must raise the rent to pay for equip upgrades, cost of living, blah blah blah. it'll get nasty before it's resolved. but, generally speaking, it'll be ah iiight.

L.A. Chieffan 10-22-2011 09:46 AM

meh, i didnt have tv for about 5 years and i just resigned for the free sunday ticket.

no big deal, there are other ways to watch my favorite shows.

This shit happens every year with other carriers/networks. They will agree on something.

...eventually. It seems like the sports networks have been playing hardball lately, so it wouldn't surprise me to see it go dark for a short period of time anyway.

KChiefs1 10-24-2011 08:18 PM

I'm so screwed.

okcchief 10-24-2011 10:50 PM

I'm more worried about the Fox sports channels. All of the Thunder games are on Fox but I guess I don't have to worry about that this year. I'm sure they will settle in a few months.

I just switched to DIRECTV, in part because DISH went through this last year, and it was a big pain in the ass. I'm really going to be pissed if DIRECTV pulls the same thing now.
