Poll shows 76% of Americans don't miss the NBA
|
Don't give a $3it in the least...
|
count me in that 76%
|
What is this Enn Bee Aye you speak?
|
I am especially happy for the underclassman who declared early and now can sit on their hands when they could be getting ready for NCAA basketball. Nice job on the money grab Josh Selby. How's that working out for you?
|
I'm surprised it's so low.

Who?

Who gives a rat's ass?

In as part of the 76%

24% of Americans is around 75MM anyway. That's not really a small amount of people saying they miss it.
|
I wonder how many would miss NASCAR?

In as part of the 76% too.

A more recent poll shows 98% of Chiefs Planet doesn't give a shit about the Yahoo NBA poll.

Not Being Affected.

What's the NBA?
|
I am the 24%
|
76er right here.

Not surprising considering we're in the thick of the NFL season.
I'd like to see this poll again come Feb. |
I will be honest, I was looking forward to the season a bit this year. It was looking like the Blazers might be relevant for the first time in a while and if you watched you have to admit the finals were pretty good last year. The NBA was on the way up in many ways with good ratings during the playoffs and all. They have lost any forward momentum with this crap.
|
76% don't miss the games and 12% don't care at all. 88% of people polled don't give a shit about the NBA. What a terrible league.
|
I won't care until the playoffs, then that will be a maybe or just a little.
|
Its been nice not having them on TV for sure... Nothing is worse than an NBA game in person or on TV....
NBA makes Curling feel like an College football, basketball or an NFL game in comparison... |
Like many, I never watch until the playoffs.
|
I prefer the NBA over NCAA hoops.
|
Can't say I'm surprised. NBA basketball just isn't fun to watch.
Maybe when they return they can join the NHL, playing on channels most people don't even know exist. |

Same here... |
I am so glad its not cluttering up ESPN.

The only thing I'll miss is the playoffs, which is the only time they attempt to play real basketball anyways. October through April is just one big exhibition. |
I don't miss ESPN dangling off LeBron's nuts, either.

It would still be pretty damn high.... |
The NBA isn't playing?
Who knew... |

Hmm, I guess I'm in the minority then. I have a team I enjoy watching, and have been a fan for about 20 years. I'll miss having pro basketball to watch after I watch football all weekend and Monday night.

Reminds me of that George Carlin quote...

Don't overlook the huge following the NBA enjoys overseas, especially in Asia.

Id like to know where they polled these people from because i can garantee you fans in NBA cities will miss it. Of course the majority of KC area people dont care. duh..
In reality though, even most NBA fans wont truly miss it until football season ends. Not many people cared about NBA games in November/Dec in a normal year anyways. |

If 24% miss the NBA, thats quite a lot better than I thought. Imagine if the NFL lockout continued and wiped out the season. If they asked this same poll about the NFL, I'd guess that at least half would respond that they don't miss the NFL (including city folks who don't like sports, women, gay couples who go to musical theaters every month, etc). Would that be bad for the NFL? No, I'd be thinking "oh wow, holy crap, a full half of the country miss the NFL!" This poll would need to be closer to 90% or higher before I'm thinking the sport is in serious danger, rather than something more mild like the players needing to realize that modest pay cuts will be needed. |

Not really. They know more than you think. I know Filipinos who make 600 dollars a month but they save up and get authentic Lakers and Bulls Jerseys. They follow the NBA very closely and I am sure the NBA and owners do take that into account. |

And I miss the NBA but I realize the majority of people on this forum hate the NBA as much or more than they hate soccer. It is what it is. |

Don't care if they stay away a month or a year. |
What I wanna know is...how do contract situations work out? Like Dwight Howard is in the last year of his contract with Orlando. If this season is entirely cancelled, will the season not count? I just wanted to see him play his last season (probably) on my team.

As popular as the NFL is, there's still an asston of people who watch 1 football game per year so they can see the new commercials and halftime show, and that's usually the only sporting event they'll go out of their way to watch all year. And I'm part of the 24%. I'm not dying every day because they're not playing, but I do miss it. I'll miss it a helluva lot more after the Super Bowl, though. Then even more after the NCAA Tournament's over, if the lockout lasts that long. |
I love that its gone. More time in the media for college hoops, NHL, and other sports. The NBA is outdated and mundane. I liked it at one time, but its unwatchable anymore. It's time as a major sport has passed. It's nothing but a soap opera of egos, dunks, and 5000 whistles a night

There are those that will never like the NBA....fine. But I'd be curious to hear from those that were once NBA fans -- what's different about the league today than when you were a fan?
I believe the NBA is/was moving into a really exciting phase, with great teams, great players who do things the right way, and bad guys (Miami Heat) to play the villain role. I miss it, but I'm a basketball junkie and enjoy watching the best players in the world. |

The newer problem is that there are SO many teams that just can't compete. All of the stars go to one of a handful of markets. People bitch about that in baseball, but there are too many players on a baseball team for it to matter as much. When there are only 8 players that matter, 1 or 2 players can really shift the balance. |
This just in; 76% of Americans don't give a crap about anything.

Michael came just in time to take over for Magic and Larry. Fantastic ball, great rivalries, team play and hard D. The minute MJ left was the day the music died and the song hasn't been close to the same since. |
Quote:
It's hard to watch the bad games that get broadcasted, but I will watch some of the juicier regular season match ups. And of course I watch as many playoff games as I possibly can. |
I couldn't care less.
|
Also, I ****ing hate MLB. Baseball itself can go die in a fire. It's the most boring piece of shit ever.
But once the NBA/NHL playoffs are over, there's a lull in the summer with no sports. And I need SOMETHING to fill that vacuum. That is, until NFL training camps start to get going. Then I'm cool with not paying attention to baseball again. |

I'd argue the talent is far better today than vs the Jordan era. When I think of the Jordan era and great players, I think... Jordan, Barkley, Drexler, Ewing, Malone, Shawn Kemp for a short period.... Starting to run out already. Shoot now in the league you have a few guys with Jordan like skills. Obviously not Jordan but amazing game. Bryant, James, Wade, Durant, Rose, Nowitzki, Dwight Howard, Chris Paul, Tim Duncan (although getting up there). I don't know what's not to like. |
Quote:
The game is boring to watch. The games are too long and riddled with fouls and free throws. About 75% of a broadcast is players standing around or walking around. It's less engaging than televised baseball even is. The league has been turned into being about individuals and egos. Watch highlights - all about facial expressions, gestures, emoting, fouls, crying to referees, who disrespected who... It's a soap opera. There are not really any compelling stories about the sport. It's just a cartoonish drama. Sports-entertainment.. Watching the NBA is not at all like it was 20 years ago even if you take out the fact that the league's stars used to be likeable players and seemed like good guys. It's not at all entertaining. |

PHX is the fair-weather fan capital of the country. Most, like me, have loyalties that lie elsewhere and will go see a local team if they are winning. |

Nothing wrong with how they market the sport IMO. |

No need to comment on "now in the league you have a few guys with Jordan like skills." |
Quote:
If you can't see how Kobe Bryant's game is similar to Jordans, then you just don't get basketball. Maybe it's best that you're not that into the NBA anymore because you obviously just don't get it. |
Quote:
If you can't see that the minute you mention Jordan's name in comparison to another player you are inviting a rebuttal to that comparison perhaps you should refrain from making that comparison. |
Quote:
Yeah throw that point in my face because when people talk great players during the Jordan era and say Malone, of course they're not talking about Karl. Remember him? 2nd all time point leader? Guess I should have spelled it out for you. |
