***OFFICIAL head coaching search thread***
So who are we going to bring in to replace Haley?
Who do you like? Do you want experienced candidates? Someone fresh and young? Potential candidates: Jeff Fisher Kirk Ferentz Josh McDaniels Marty Schottenheimer Mike Zimmer Andy Reid Jay Gruden Rick Dennison Todd Bowles Rob Ryan Dom Capers Brian Billick Jon Gruden Pepper Johnson Kevin Gilbride NEWS Nick Wright: Pioli believes McDaniels isn't a viable option, and Fisher is but won't offer Jeff big bucks is the bad news |
ROFL
This is gonna be awesome! |
From this short list Marty Schottenheimer
I wanted him to be the next Huskers coach. But they hired Botard instead I dont need to add to the list. I haven't given up on Haily yet. |
I don't think it will be a big name hire whomever is brought in. Haley was an unknown till Arizona made the SB. I don't think the names you have posted will get it although I can't think of any names off the top of my head.

Mike Zimmer
|
Rush Limbaugh.
|
Did we fire Haley?
|
I'm hoping Andy Reid is fired in Philly and we swoop in and scoop him up.

Whoever is available from "the tree". /Scott Pioli

God, I could take a Taco Tico dump on a piece of paper and it would look better than that list of coaches.
|
As much as I wish it would happen. Pioli is not going to fire Haley after a year with all of the injuries we've had. He'll get one more year at least.

Marty would be the best off of that list.
He is overdue for a playoff run, so there is that. |

Hang on to Haley for another year and if this thing doesn't get turned around then we take a look at Jay Gruden.
|
I think this is one of those stick with the devil you know deals
Pioli needs to sell season tickets & that just makes my tummy hurt |

The Chiefs need someone with previous NFL head coaching experience.

Chamberlain High School in Tampa, Florida, where he played quarterback for the Chiefs under head coach Billy Turner. [edit] College career Gruden was a four-year letterman at Louisville (1985–1988). He finished his collegiate career with 7,024 passing yards, completing 572 of 1049 passes for 44 touchdowns. All four stats still rank in the top five in Cardinals' history. As a senior, Gruden led the team to an 8–3 mark, their first winning season in 10 years. [edit] Professional career Gruden won four ArenaBowl titles as the starting quarterback of the Tampa Bay Storm. He was the Arena League MVP in the 1992 season. Then, in 1998, he became head coach of the Orlando Predators, the main rival of the Tampa Bay Storm. He won ArenaBowl titles in 1998 and 2000 as head coach. He un-retired and resumed playing in 2002, this time for the Predators, but retired again and returned to head coaching when his replacement, Fran Papasedero, died after the 2003 season. Gruden has an overall AFL career record of 93–61, including a record of 11–7 in the playoffs. From 2002 to 2008 he also served as an offensive assistant for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the National Football League under his brother, head coach Jon Gruden. He left after Jon was fired following the 2008 season. In 2009, while the Predators were on hiatus prior to the folding of the AFL, he was selected to be head coach Jim Haslett's offensive coordinator for the Florida Tuskers of the United Football League. As part of his contract, he was not permitted to remain head coach of the Predators. Instead, former Preds quarterback Pat O'Hara, who led the team to the two ArenaBowls it won when Gruden was head coach, was hired in his place. In 2010, he was named head coach of the Tuskers following Haslett's departure to join Mike Shanahan's staff with the Washington Redskins. Gruden was hired as the offensive coordinator for the Cincinnati Bengals on February 3, 2011.[3] [edit] Personal Gruden's father Jim, a long-time college and NFL assistant coach, is a retired regional scout for the San Francisco 49ers. His brother Jon was the head coach of the Oakland Raiders, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. |

Ultimately, he had the same amount of experience actually calling plays as Gruden would after this season. |
I think you're being unfair to Jeff Fisher.
The dude went to a Super Bowl. |
Pioli will not hire a coach who will want some control. He is a power freak...going to get another puppet. No real coach will want to work with him.
|
Interesting note about Mike Zimmer.

Here's another thing to like about Fisher: He drafted two QBs in the first round. |

Here's a name: Bob Stoops

I'd prefer Zimmer out of all those listed right now.
|
Peyton Manning when he retires; he can be our HC and OC.

Does this thread have any merit or is this just in anticipation?
|
I would keep my eye on Todd Bowles since he's from the tree. Been a good position coach and has interviewed with teams in the past. He would be a "yes man" to Pioli.

The 49ers were ranked 30th in points and 32nd in yards. Success as an OC/DC are not always indicative of being a good leader/manager... which is what a head coach is. You really never know who will be a good head coach. If being a great coordinator made you a great head coach, then Dick Lebeau (the best DC in the NFL right now imo) wouldn't have been so bad at HC and McCarthy wouldn't be such a good one. |

Fisher wanted a QB, but he didn't want Vince Young. |
Fisher's teams are always tough (and dirty) as hell. He's Marty, but with more post-season success.
I'm going to be killed here, I'm sure, but he's not a deplorable option as far as retreads go. |
I think Dylan would like one of you fine gentleman to make her a MNF game thread
