Gif'd Up Chiefs vs Bears AKA The real monsters of the midway...
...are our linebackers...
First up: Jovan Belcher (with a little DJ and Jackson) http://uranus.ckt.net/~gochiefs/belcherchi.gif http://uranus.ckt.net/~gochiefs/belcherchi2.gif http://uranus.ckt.net/~gochiefs/belcherchi3.gif http://uranus.ckt.net/~gochiefs/belcherdj.gif |
MOAR!!
|
Like I said - it's less critical that we replace Belcher than it is that we put him in positions to succeed.
Getting Berry back, getting push up the middle and developing Houston is a hell of a start. |
Me horny!

that first gif is total pwnage

Maybe this will cut down on the "replace Belcher!!!" nonsense. He definately has a place as a starter on this team.
|
That first gif is flat out mean. Epic Destruction.

He's still a liability in pass coverage and his COD is a weakness but he's exactly the kind of meat and potatoes player you need on defense. |
Belcher sure as shit is NOT 225lbs like some claimed him to be.

Never seen a guy get juked by Joe Flacco before. |

He has one decent game against the Bears. I can show you just as many "lowlights" of Belcher being pancaked, or losing pass coverage, or missing a tackle as "highlights" in the past year. I agree he is improving. He's not Derrick Johnson, that's for sure. And I'd say Houston has passed him in pass rushing effectiveness. He's not the biggest problem on the team, that's for sure. But he has lots of room to improve. |
Quote:
He has been a regular on GIF'D UP since last years 49ers game where he totally destroyed a play. PFF actually has him ranked as the 13th best ILB against the run (that includes ILB and MLBs in 4-3s). He's a good player but struggles in pass coverage. You're going to have at least one of those guys in just about any 3-4. |
:spock: If you think he's only had one decent game, you either haven't been paying attention or you don't know what the hell you're talking about.
And Omega comes through with the data to back it up. |
"But, but, but...Belcher's just a guy. REPLACE HIM!" /insert name

Probably one of my favorite gifs ever:

Belcher is a good 2-down LB'er. He's definitely the guy you pull in the nickel package. Heh. That said, I can just imagine Pioli salivating over DJ + Hightower.
|
I pulled a DJ play from 2007 to show that he's really been doing this his entire career. He's just more consistent now.

That's almost the identical play from Derrick there.

Denver 8, New England 2, Pittsburgh 5, Chicago 5. He's never had a fumble recovery. He's had three career passes defended. That's in 44 career games played. He has had penalties for holding, and face mask, and late hits. How's that for paying attention? He's an OK player. There's lots of other inside linebackers who are much better. |

His job is to be the bulldog in the running game. Here's another guy who doesn't get a lot of sacks or interceptions, has only had one 100-tackle season, but is a freaking bulldog. Belcher is ONLY 24 years old and in his third season. He's progressing just fine. |
I'm sure there are better linebackers out there, Mr. gblowfish.
But, Belcher plays an important role in this defense. He does a very good job of clearing out the trash, taking on fullbacks, TEs, etc. at the LOS. And, he's still learning. As a matter of fact, I think if you were to break down some of our better defensive plays against the run, we would find that Belcher's play is allowing DJ to accomplish more in less space. I've always liked Belcher. He's a thumper and we need a guy like that amongst our linebacker corp. In fact, I really like the overall combination of Hali, Belcher, DJ, and Houston. That's a pretty damn fine group, right there. Especially considering their age and the fact that they still have tons of up-side. I'd focus more attention on improving the d-line before I'd look to improve on Belcher. FAX |

He's OK. Not great, not terrible, he's pretty average. He has not improved as much this year as Johnson or Houston. Guess we'll just have to agree to disagree. I wouldn't go out and buy my Belcher All-Pro jersey just yet.... |

I only hope that Berry returns to play at a high level. Oh ... and that Crennel returns. One bad thing that could happen is that we change defensive schemes on these guys. FAX |

Why is everybody so nit-picky these days, anyhow? It's Christmastime, for crying out loud. A time for peace and joy and brotherhood and togetherness and half-naked girls in lingerie lying about beneath evergreen trees and licking the nog off their fingers. FAX |
DJ beasting. No one can touch him on these plays. The dude is a ****ing ninja.

Damn. Everybody was getting held on number three. That appears to be the non-safety?
On number one, Belcher appears to have lost leverage, but in actuality, he's super smart on that play by clearing out a path for DJ. Brilliant play. Did you see that play, Mr. gblowfish? Number two is a classic DJ move. Go low through the block and penetrate to the runner. I think it's safe to say, he's got that technique down. FAX |
Wheres Belcher rank among inside linebackers?

Ok, a few things:
I ****ING LOVE OUR LINEBACKERS! I'm loving the way Houston is progressing. I hate to get too excited over one game against a shitty QB, but he was playing like a man possessed last Sunday. Not only was he impressive rushing the passer, but I was surprised at how well he played against the run. On those stretch plays he does a great job of holding his ground and keeping contain, then shedding the block at just the right time to make the play. I remember a few plays from Sunday watching him on the edge knowing for a fact Studebaker would have given up a big gainer where Houston stopped the play for no gain or just a couple. DJ is a ****ing animal. At everything. Every aspect of linebacker-ship, he gets an A grade from me right now. I'd take him over any LB in the league right now, not named Pat Willis. Belcher is kind of a stud too. I love that he's such a thumper. With Hali and Houston bringing on the heat and DJ running around like a pirate ninja on steroids, I feel like we need that guy like Belcher to, as FAX said earlier, "clean up the trash". Surely he's "made" a lot more plays than the stat sheets show just by blowing up a lead block. Tamba is Tamba. Still the man. I love that he's such a QB stalker rapist, and he's pretty much our only consistent pressure guy, but I don't like that gif where DJ hurt Forte. Tamba throws lineman around like ragdolls in pass protection, I want him to show some of that nastiness in the ground game. Use that bull rush and those hands to slap him off you, make a stop in the backfield. I'm kind of nitpicking, but that's something I wouldn't mind seeing from him. Quote:

Belcher does exactly what he is supposed to do in the sheme the Chiefs play. He's not great in pass coverage but he's 24 ****ing years old. Give the guy some time.

These GIFs are awesome and seeing Houston progress is fun as hell. All I can think about is how good a healthy Chiefs team would be with a QB and how much we just have to pray that our GM even feels that way. |
Belcher's neckroll is a better tackler than Urlacher

Belcher's neck roll once rescued a child from a burning building.

Great to see we finally have guys able to come off both ends that we haven't seen here since the days of DT and Neal Smith.

Not only are H&H coming off the ends, but somebody is collapsing the middle and destroying the pocket.

Gilberry looks like a force in those plays. I agree with Mr. Mike in SWMO
