Hello kirk Ferentz

coachingsearchPete Roussel
Chiefs general manager Scott Pioli has reportedly told people that Iowa's Kirk Ferentz is the leading candidate to replace Todd Haley.

No. No. No. I will not accept this.

STANZI FOR PRESIDENT

Discuss Thrower 12-12-2011 01:23 PM

Christ. The Hawkeyefication of the Chiefs continues.

Imon Yourside 12-12-2011 01:23 PM

I guess Stanzi is the QBOTF then.

Molitoth 12-12-2011 01:23 PM

That would be great imo.

holy shit NSFW in images if you google his last name

SCANDAL already

htismaqe 12-12-2011 01:24 PM

Just don't see it happening.

Kirk has a lifetime get out of jail free card. He's at a school where you win 10 games every 2 or 3 years and they'll carve you a statue.

Bowser 12-12-2011 01:25 PM

Why the **** is it so hard for GM's to step outside of their comfort zones? We had to deal with Carl's refusal to hire anyone as a coach post Marty that he didn't know.

This would be a disaster. DISASTER.

ChiefsCountry 12-12-2011 01:25 PM

Solid hire. It would be the best one from the tree.

Easy 6 12-12-2011 01:25 PM

Wow. This franchise is completely ****ed.

mnchiefsguy 12-12-2011 01:25 PM

Gotta call BS on this...Pioli does not say anything to anyone, and if he did, they would know to shut the hell up. I think this is a red herring.

Nightfyre 12-12-2011 01:25 PM

This would be a recipe for disaster, imo. How on earth would Pioli hold Ferentz accountable if he is awful?

Hammock Parties 12-12-2011 01:25 PM

I wouldn't mind it.

teedubya 12-12-2011 01:26 PM

Did Pioli leak this, or did some school leak this to get a recruiting advantage?

Here's a secret for you -

The "tree" starts with Belichick, and ends with Tom Brady. Chinese Elms are pretty ****ing stout near the trunk, but all the branches die and fall off with little outside effort.

Christ.

He's a better college coach IMO than Carroll. He never had the talent that Carroll had because he coaches at a school that couldn't be further away from USC.

He's done a lot with very little.

Doesn't matter. If Ferentz goes all Saban on us, then Clark Hunt will be holding Pioli accountable...

Nightfyre 12-12-2011 01:29 PM

Also, it could be implied that we will not draft a franchise QB if Ferentz is hired, because he probably has unwavering faith in Stanzi.

Part of the BB tree and the Hayden Fry tree. It worked for Bill Snyder and Bob Stoops under Hayden. He understands the coaching process

It's a pussy move, sticking to "the tree", or whatever. Go get the best guy for the job, not the guy you'r emost comfortable with, and/or feel like you can control. That likely won't happen, seeing as how Haley and Pioli went down in flames.

Saying that, I'll take the word of Hawkeye fan that says he does a great job coaching his kids, because I'll admit I know very little of him as a coach. Give me some up and comer not named Josh McDaniels.

Great news, actually. Ferentz won't come here if Cassel is forced on him, and if he really believes in Stanzi, he'd be more likely to come. Additionally, Pioli wouldn't be floating his choices unless discussions had already taken place.

He's not really a tree guy. He coached under Belichick a couple of years in Cleveland.

Personally, I thnik this is who Pioli wanted all along and he's a guy Pioli would listen to and put in the best possible position to succeed. Along with being a solid coach and leader.

And Pioli really believed in Cassel.

We need to draft a franchise QB. If a fifth rounder rises up and surprises, then we have a great problem on our hands.

If you're willing to listen to a Hawkeye fan, you should know that I posted probably a week ago or more that I don't like the idea of him being the Chiefs HC. I'm not a fan of his approach to the game, not aggressive enough...

Sure, but anything but McDaniels + Cassel sounds appealing. I had assumed that to be the near certain outcome.

He is making 3.65 million per year through 2020. He'd be ****ing insane to leave that and go anywhere.

It will NOT happen.

RustShack 12-12-2011 01:45 PM

Is it possible for us to get McDaniels as on OC? Maybe if we make him assistant HC too?

Not saying I want to hire Ferentz, but hes known for having great defense and good running games. We better keep Crennel who keeps our D good, then add McDaniels and we have a great passing attack no matter who our QB is(his boys Cassel or Orton, even Fernetz boy Stanzi has an arm). Then obviously we will have a rushing attack still(assuming).

Maybe not but having seen 10+ years of him, every game, I'd rather not take the chance.

When you need a FG to beat Ohio State in the Horseshoe for the first time in ten thousand years, you don't kneel down with 2:15 left and 3 timeouts to play for overtime...

It's not just that.

Look at the people like 88 saying he's a shit coach, and look at the Iowa fans line up to defend him.

If he were the coach at Nebraska, they would have fired him in 2003.

At Iowa, he is set FOR LIFE.

I'm all for Kirk Ferentz! Get our GM and HC on the same path, rowing together. If in 3 more years they've rowed the boat over Niagra, wash off both of em, step up and swing away again. This is the make or break path for Scott Pioli, let's get it goin already!

One could make that case. He's made some odd end-of-half/end-of-game decisions over the years. He's VERY conservative, especially in big games.

Let's make this perfectly clear - Kirk Ferentz is my favorite HC for the Hawkeyes and I am old enough to remember Hayden's glory years. I would love for Kirk to stay in Iowa City FOREVER.

And while I wouldn't be angry, I really don't want him as the next HC of the Chiefs.

Ferentz has too much class for the NFL. I'm not sure his bullshit tolerance is near high enough. He's already done the NFL thing once and he went back to college. I'd like a motivated Ferentz to be coaching at Kinnick for the next 15 years however if coach is ready for a change then he needs to go.
