Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning
Now I don't know about you guys, but fans of Skyrim/WoW/etc. would like this game that hits stores 2/7/2012.
-The Developer is Big Huge Games. Responsible for titles such as Rise of Nations and Age of Empires III. Not very popular games but I think this one is worth looking at. -Published by Electronic Arts, so graphics will be top notch. It is single player RPG. -Available on XBOX360, PS3, and PC. Trailer here: <div style="background-color:#<div style="padding:4px;"><embed src="http://media.mtvnservices.com/mgid:moses:video:gametrailers.com:724994" width="512" height="288" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowFullScreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" base="." flashVars=""></embed><p style="text-align:left;background-color:#Get More: <a href='http://www.gametrailers.com'>GameTrailers.com</a>, <a href="http://www.gametrailers.com/video/exclusive-power-mastery/724994">Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning - Exclusive Power & Mastery Trailer HD</a> OFFICIAL WEBSITE |
Come on people! Does this not look remotely interesting? Comment or something!
|
Looks neato. Mayhaps Skyrim will be played out by the time this comes out.

Spell Assassin Gameplay
Possibilities seem endless. The music is a little meh on these but that's beside the point.

Mage Gameplay
She got rocked quite a bit, maybe mage on mage combat you are at a disadvantage. Anyway
<div style="background-color:#<div style="padding:4px;"><embed src="http://media.mtvnservices.com/mgid:moses:video:gametrailers.com:724981" width="512" height="288" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowFullScreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" base="." flashVars=""></embed><p style="text-align:left;background-color:#Get More: <a href='http://www.gametrailers.com'>GameTrailers.com</a>, <a href="http://www.gametrailers.com/video/mage-gameplay/724981">Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning - Mage Gameplay</a>, <a href='http://pc.gametrailers.com/'>PC Games</a>, <a href='http://ps3.gametrailers.com/'>PlayStation 3</a>, <a href='http://xbox360.gametrailers.com/'>Xbox 360</a></p></div></div> |

any sort of multiplayer?

Warrior Gameplay
Again as I said. Music is meh. But hey, Warrior looks at a disadvantage, but if you get spells that help close gaps, then it ought to be wild.
<div style="background-color:#<div style="padding:4px;"><embed src="http://media.mtvnservices.com/mgid:moses:video:gametrailers.com:724975" width="512" height="288" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowFullScreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" base="." flashVars=""></embed><p style="text-align:left;background-color:#Get More: <a href='http://www.gametrailers.com'>GameTrailers.com</a>, <a href="http://www.gametrailers.com/video/warrior-gameplay/724975">Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning - Warrior Gameplay</a>, <a href='http://pc.gametrailers.com/'>PC Games</a>, <a href='http://ps3.gametrailers.com/'>PlayStation 3</a>, <a href='http://xbox360.gametrailers.com/'>Xbox 360</a></p></div></div> |

Wait....it might not be massive multiplayer. I read that wrong. Think it's just single player. MY BAD EVERYONE!

What is Kingdoms of Amalur™ Kingdoms of Amalur™ is an original fantasy universe that serves as the setting for both Reckoning and 38 Studios’ upcoming massively multiplayer game, codenamed Project Copernicus. Amalur's cultures and expansive history were created by R. A. Salvatore, and the world is being brought to life through the artistic vision of Todd McFarlane. Legendary game designer Ken Rolston provides players their first journey into Kingdoms of Amalur™ through the hero’s journey in Reckoning. The story of Amalur will continue to expand through comic books, novels, toys and additional games. |
Looks like a single-player version of WoW, complete with terrible cartoony graphics.
Awful. |
its not a mmo. Its a single player game. Its just a prelude for the MMO which is Cornipicus or someshit.
|
Ken Rolston was lead designer on Morrowind and Oblivion, coupled with a legit fantasy author (Salvatore) this has the potential to be a pretty good release. I am always on the lookout for and interesting new IP in this world of sequels and reboots. Ultimately this will depend on how much originality Rolston and McFarlane have left in the tank.

Recent video for 2012

I see the similarities to Skyrim, but the gameplay is totally different. I think I will buy this. |

Shows more indepth gameplay than previous videos. It is the PC version, but has controller synch capabilities. Getting pretty excited about this. Looks clean and smooth. |
I'll try the demo. You unlock something in Mass Effect 3 by playing it.

I pre-ordered it last Wednesday. |
This looks a lot like Fable 3. I couldn't get into Fable 2, but my wife loves 'em.

IMO Fable 2 was superior to Fable 3.

I think other retailers are doing the same but I liked what Gamestop had. The big thing about this vs. others (like Fable 3) is that they're giving DLC that is useful for ALL character types. I pre-ordered Fable 3 and got a free DLC hammer. Of course, I decided I liked swords better and that hammer never got used. |

Looks decent, should help tide me over until D3, Torchlight 2 or Borderlands 2 come out.
|
Demo comes out today.
|
Played the demo. Seemed pretty cool. Had the simple feel of a Diablo type game, but the more you progressed the more it got involved. Kind of cartoony. The story seemed interesting enough. I'll pick it up eventually.

Here's another interesting tidbit - 38 Studios is owned by Curt Schilling...

Pretty much like Fable and Todd McFarlane did the artwork? I'll be picking it up.
|
Hopefully it's not the linear POS that fable was, hated that game.

Watching the gameplay......is there no looting of bodies?

The demo isn't doing much for me. The camera swings around wildly at the slightest adjustment (and reducing the sensitivity doesn't help). Had some headless characters walking around as well although I suspect thats likely to be fixed.

Then i will move on to Trine 2, which if it's anything like the original will be well...Epic. ;) |

That being said, the comparisons to Fable are strictly about the artwork and combat, not the story or storyline. For me, Fable-like combat isn't a bad thing at all. |

When I first bought my Xbox360 back in olden times, I rented this game where you used to fight HUGE monsters. You didn't really fight anything except HUGE bosses that you had to like climb up the fur on their legs or whatever to even hit or hurt them, does anyone remember this?? |

The difference between a good rig, and Xbox360, is almost as wide as Xbox360 to Xbox.. |

But great games are very rarely just about eye candy. Of course, I'm closing in on 40 and have gotten pretty lazy. I don't have the gumption any more to build and tweak PCs, update drivers, and work through constant bugs and crashes. I like the simplicity of throwing in a disc, sitting back on the couch, and just playing. |

I really don't even play video games very often at all. And I agree about gameplay. Red Dead Revolver was every bit as entertaining on the original xbox as Redemption....if not better. |

I've been playing the demo tonight. Reducing the camera stick sensitivity is a must - I wish they had the same option for the left stick because movement feels kind of jerky, ala Madden 98.
Otherwise, this looks like it could be a GREAT game. |
I downloaded it just to get the ME3 armor. We'll see how I like it when I have some time to play it in a week or so. Although after dropping over $200 on The Old Republic, it will probably be a while before I get anything else.

150 for the CE and 70 for a 6 month sub.
I actually went without any new games for the 2nd half of 2011 to save up the cash for it. Next game I plan on purchasing is ME3. And when I say I dl'd this game, it was the demo obviously... |

So after finishing the 45 minutes last night, I liked it enough that I feel the need to post some commentary. Hopefully you find it helpful and not boring. :D
One of the things that has always bothered me about computer roleplaying games, particularly so-called "open world" games, is that invariably role playing always ends up taking a back seat to the mechanics of the game itself. First off, most games just don't offer the freedom to create any type of character. Even when they do, more often than not, a situation, scenario, or encounter will occur in the game and the only way to get past it is to play in a manner that is not consistent with, or even counter to, how I have envisioned my character in the game. Few computer games have ever come close to the freedom and imagination that some of us grew up with playing pen-and-paper games. A good example of this is the fact that most games seem to automatically associate "dexterity" or "agility" with ranged weapons. This one has always been a personal beef of mine. A lot of games automatically assume that a fighter is an axe-wielding monolith in plate armor while an agile hero must use bows or guns. Most games don't allow for the player to explore the idea of a graceful swordsman or a hunter that relies on melee weapons and fast-twitch reflexes. Still other games have areas or encounters that simply can't be won using any and every play style. Charging into a room of brigands with your sword drawn ends up with you dropping dead mid-sprint as they pepper you with arrows. Your only option is to draw a bow and shoot them before they shoot you. Here I am 3 paragraphs in and haven't yet mentioned Amalur - I do apologize but there's a reason for it: After playing the full 45-minute demo last night, I'm fairly confident the game addresses everything I've mentioned and more. The first half of the demo is, more than anything else, a trainer to get you familiar with the controls. About 10 minutes in, the player is presented with exactly one of those scenarios I was talking about - charge in and die. It was at this point that Amalur snagged me. The narrator suggested I pick up a pair of daggers and enter "stealth" mode. Sure, I could have picked them off 1-by-1 with a bow but the game didn't MAKE me. Instead, I snuck around the back of the area, positioned myself behind my prospective victim, and killed him in one swift, gruesome animation. It was awesome! The other thing that was awesome was the equipment. Some games rely heavily on "drops" and others on "chests". Still others only offer the best gear through shops. By the end of the demo, I had assembled my best gear from ALL of those places. I even had a cool pair of gloves that I made from pieces at the forge. The only major gripe I have at this point is the movement. The camera panning and movement are too fast. The camera is easily fixed by turning down the sensitivity. There doesn't appear to be a similar mechanism for the movement itself. It almost feels like the old digital d-pad in that there's only 16 absolute directions you can go and this results in unnatural movement that is "squared" instead of fluid. I did have some texture mirroring but no other obvious graphical bugs, like the aforementioned headless NPCs. There were several little quirks with conversation - some NPCs responded and talked but in some cases, I would hit A and the game would just freeze for 20-30 seconds before the conversation interface popped up. There were still other NPCs where the interface simply never came up at all. |
