Jeff Fisher might return to the NFL after a season away, but he won't be roaming the sidelines in Kansas City, according to a report by Jack Harry of KSHB NBC in Kansas City:

It should be noted that Fisher, the former Tennessee Titans and Houston Oilers coach for 16 consecutive seasons, weathered a divisive quarterback controversy between Vince Young (assumed to have been drafted at the behest of Titans owner Bud Adams) and Kerry Collins that ultimately resulted in both Young and Fisher's departure from Nashville.

On the other hand, the Chiefs don't have a current quarterback controversy anywhere near the level of Collins/Young, but the return of a healthy Matt Cassel in 2012 could create a heated a competition with Kyle Orton.

I bet he wants to go to SD or Indy. All indications are the guy wants to cherry pick a spot where he has a franchise QB, or can take one.

That's the ironic thing about this... everybody's ripping on Fisher and he's probably the coach most likely to do the one thing everyone supposedly wants.

Maybe. All of the ESPN guys last week (Clayton, Schefter, etc) said Fisher is going to go where the QB is. Somewhere with a franchise QB in place or where he can draft one.

2. Nothing about this implies any contact. If you're a long time coach in the NFL, you pretty much know about ownership situations and QB situations without really visiting the team.

IIRC Wright reported that Chiefs sources told him they had no interest in paying over $3mil/yr and that it would take at least $5mil to get Fisher.

I don't think he's quite at Cowher's level.. but I think he's pretty highly thought of in NFL circles. And with no guarantee that Cowher or Gruden will coach, plus there aren't really any hot assistants in the mix right now... Fisher's sitting in a pretty good spot.
