Initial impression, Burfict too high, Konz too low.

the Talking Can 01-17-2012 07:58 PM

burfict, poe (is he a ngata level talent?) too high

hightower over burfict any day...orson charles over hightower?

yeah, no

wonder how strong this draft is looking at that list...

DeezNutz 01-17-2012 08:02 PM

Obviously I could be wrong here, but I'm not a big fan of Jeffery. Reminds me of David Boston.

Not saying we need another WR with a #1 pick, but Kendall Wright seems to be climbing into our range.

Packers throw out a set that looks like this... Jennings, Nelson, Jones, Driver, and Finley.

Chiefs could go... Baldwin, Breaston, Wright, Bowe, and Moeaki.

Coogs 01-18-2012 09:40 AM

This is from Tony Pauline today...

Some of the biggest buzz at the Shrine Game surrounds the receiver position. The consensus has Oklahoma State junior Justin Blackmon as the top wideout in April's draft. But that does not match the reality on many a draft board around the league, which has Big 12 counterpart Kendall Wright of Baylor as the top receiver available. Wright is being fondly compared to Steve Smith of the Carolina Panthers, with one insider mentioning he's a bigger version of the former All-Pro.

Who is going to throw them the ball?

If the plan is to let Stanzi compete, then go ahead.

That Kendall Wright comp seems reasonable to me. He was overshadowed a bit by RG3 but he has some huge upside.

He is the potential gamebreaker that every NFL team covets.

I know he is not a total board favorite, but Orton could find an open receiver and get the ball to them... Baldwin open in the endzone not withstanding on the one play that has been beat to death around here.

I hear ya but Orton isn't on the team so we'd have to sign him first.

I'm OK with that. Orton with Stanzi as the back up, and if Stanzi beats him out... GREAT!

I don't see why they would sign him when they have Cassel under contract, though. :(

I agree. And I don't get the guys who say Orton=Cassel. Eyeball evaluation from my TV at home was that contest is not even close in Orton's favor. Not saying Orton is the long term solution. Just a much better option for now.

He had a good day against one of the best D's in the country in 2010

That is the big issue. Is Orton going to sign here with Cassel around? Doubt it. What do you do, cut Matt to make Orton come here? Ideally you can trade Matt and avoid the cap hit of cutting him but I am not going to care at this point. Just get him out.

I just don't seem switching Matt out when they sign Orton and I think Orton only signs here if Matt isn't here.

Orton/Stanzi is a much better situation. Less emotional connection with Pioli and Orton so Stanzi would have a legit chance. Hopefully they would add another QB to better our odds.

I don't always think doom, but how can you not right now. I still worry that we sign a vet QB to be the backup and don't even let the young QB(s) compete.

BossChief 01-21-2012 03:20 AM

Worst fear = Derek Anderson

There is no cap hit to cut Cassel.

Jesus, how can no one get that.

tmax63 01-21-2012 08:40 AM

I do believe Orton is better than Cassel. Living out here in donkeyland though I got to see Orton for quite a while. There is a reason that the 2nd coming was started over him. Orton played probably the best 3 games he's played in a couple years for the Chiefs. He knew he was auditioning for the league. I'd like to see them cut Cassel and sign Orton to a 2-3 year deal but won't be butt hurt if they keep Cassel instead. Then as everyone has said, draft somebody that has potential instead of hope and grow from there.

Lil Stumpy is right.
Cutting Cassel costs nothing.

But if there were a hit to take for cutting him, trading him would have the same hit to the cap as cutting.

The flipside to that is that, while cutting Cassel costs nothing, keeping him is already in the "budget", so that too essentially costs nothing.

Signing Orton is going to cost them considerable dollars, I don't see them doing it.

Some team is going to pay him to be their starter. Doubtful its KC.
