Former Denver Broncos safety Kyle McCarthy writes on Twitter that he's agreed to sign with the Kansas City Chiefs. McCarthy, 25, joined the Broncos in 2010 as an undrafted free agent.

McCarthy went to school at Notre Dame. He's listed at 6'1" and 205 pounds. He's a Youngstown, Ohio native.

The Chiefs will get Eric Berry back next season but they're also scheduled to lose three safeties in free agency -- Jon McGraw, Reshard Langford (exclusive rights free agent) and Sabby Piscitelli. But this move is more about special teams than anything else.

McCarthy played in four games in 2011 and eight games in 2010. He has seven total tackles on his career.

McCarthy was released by the Broncos in December and then re-upped with the team for the final month.

He couldn't be any worse than Scabby Pissybelly.

I'm very excited by this. If I'm remembering right, this guy was the #2 pick in the entire draft last year and was the defensive rookie of the year.

McCarthy is one of the best safeties in the league but his talent level isn't as high as the rest of the Broncos safeties / KnowMo

This sure beats signing a HOF Qb.

I remember the first time I saw him play, in a preseason game before the 2010 season. I don't remember exactly what happened, but he missed a tackle in such a way that it made me embarrassed to be a football fan. He's improved since then, but not enough to be an upgrade over anything but an empty roster spot.

At this point, the Chiefs have absolutely no depth at safety. Odds are this fella won't make it past the first round of cuts. Langford needs re-signed at the right price, and we need to address the position through the draft and free agency.

Julius Thomas suffered a severe ankle sprain early in the season and he didn't recover very well from it. Plus, he can't block for shit right now and the Donks are in heavy packages more often than not.
