How much is left after we got O'Connell back?

O.city 02-10-2012 01:46 PM

I don't really understand this cap stuff that well, but how much are Carr and Bowe going to cost us?

I would think that locking those two up isn't gonna eat up this 63 million.

ShowtimeSBMVP 02-10-2012 01:46 PM

If carr or bowe walks it is really sad.

Micjones 02-10-2012 01:47 PM

We wouldn't bring him back unless he paid us.

If we give Bowe Santonio holmes money and Carr Flowers money, what would that put the cap at?

KCrockaholic 02-10-2012 01:48 PM

But think about this. At some point the Chiefs will be FORCED to spend the majority of that cap room. Possibly this year, and 2013 the Chiefs will make major splashes in free agency because of the new cap rules put in place.

Rain Man 02-10-2012 01:48 PM

If we hadn't signed that Broncos safety we would've had enough to sign Peyton Manning.

There really isn't any point not to.

We probably won't sign them and go into next year when we have to spend it, then spend it on marginal **** ups.

The Franchise 02-10-2012 01:50 PM

We need to save room for Matt Cassel's extension. /Pioli

Munson 02-10-2012 01:51 PM

With that much available cash, there is absolutely NO excuse to let Carr or Bowe walk.

And anyone who says the Hunt family isn't cheap can go jump off a cliff and land face first into a burning AIDS tree.

O.city 02-10-2012 01:52 PM

If Bowe or Carr walk, then yeah, i'd have to agree that the Hunts are full of shit.

They talked about going cheap so they would have money to sign these drafted guys when they come time to sign. They did it with guys so far, why not now?

If Carr OR Bowe is allowed to walk, we should escort Mr. Pioli out the door.
After he removes all his listening devices, of course...

You know whats kinda cool to think about with that 63 million dollar figure?

After signing Flowers, DJ, Hali and Charles to big extensions...we still have that much space because we structured the contracts to leave that much space.

These guys are structuring these deals so that we have more money to spend in the future (that we have to spend).

I think we are about to be like kids running down the steps Christmas morning to see all the gifts for the first time in forever once free agency starts.

Eventually it will have to be that way. I mean we have the cap space to build an all-star team. It's just a shame. Because as long as we have a piece of shit QB, all these awesome pieces we have and could acquire wont mean shit.

From what I understand the Chiefs are able to use the money they were under the cap last year to raise the cap this year.

ShowtimeSBMVP 02-10-2012 02:14 PM

Chiefs salary cap heading into september =62.5 million.

O.city 02-10-2012 02:14 PM

I would like to think Boss is right but............

I will say if we resign Carr and Bowe i'll be relieved.

Bowe, Carr, Soliai, Grubbs and Manning should be who we target. We won't but we should.

If you sign those 5 guys and have a good depth adding a few playmakers too draft, you are a break away from a SB.

If you were to bring those guys in and things were to go as planned you could legitimately win a SB. Think you would make money from that?

We could all learn a thing or two about money management from the Chiefs. They're just setting a good example. Now remember. Stay cheap, and don't buy season tickets. It's the Patriot Way.

O.city 02-10-2012 02:21 PM

I know Pioli has said something about cash cap.

Just tell me if I'm understanding this right.

We have 63 million dollars of money that we can spend this year. We actually have that much money that we can spend on players, this year. This money, that if we don't spend it, will just sit there?

How the hell does a supposed business man like Clark Hunt, not realize that by putting a winning team on the field and winning playoff games would make him a shit ton more money than sitting on what they are doing now?

jd1020 02-10-2012 02:21 PM

So if I understand this. The Chiefs have 31 extra million dollars over the actual cap because they were so far under last year. Which means if they spent more than that $31mil they would have to cut whatever they overspent next season. Seems like a pretty stupid thing to do unless you are signing the players to 1 year rentals for a 1 year shot at the SB.

dirk digler 02-10-2012 02:22 PM

With that much cap room there is no excuse why Bowe and Carr haven't been resigned unless of course they don't want to be here.

Well, we can't re-sign them right now. It could have happened during the season, but there's no excuse that we don't find a way to re-sign them. I fully expect us to re-sign one, and then franchise the other. I'd franchise Bowe.

I think I remember hearing something from Pioli's mouth saying the reason they rolled over that money from last year was to sign free agents this offseason, specifically Bowe and Carr.

I'm not sure about what would happen like what you said tho.

You are letting decades of sub par roster management sway your thoughts on the present situation IMO.

Let me get your (and some others) line of thinking in my head for a second...

You think that we are front loading all of our contract extensions to ensure that the team keeps lots of cap space available because we are gonna continue to operate well below the cap.

Well, that doesn't fit the current (and future) league rules (that Clark Hunt helped negotiate)

If we don't spend 119 million in CASH, we forfeit the remaining amount to the NFL and it is dispersed between the players. that has nothing to do with the teams cap space, it how much the owner MUST spend to be in line with league rules.

Either spend the money on players or the league takes the money anyway and you get nothing.

I guess I don't see a way that we don't go out and add a few pieces and retain our own guys without violating the leagues rules and having to hand over the cash anyway.

Gilberry
Belcher
Carr
Bowe

I expect all of them to be re-signed and in addition for us to sign 2 or 3 quality guys.

In reality, thats what its gonna take for us to get to the league mandated amounts, regardless of the cap floor that goes into place next year.

If we don't start to spend money THIS YEAR, there is NO WAY we get to those figures NEXT YEAR without having to sign players to stupid contracts.

O.city 02-10-2012 02:54 PM

Not that much. It wouldn't be anything outrageous. They're both solid players, well above average. But not true superstars.

O.city 02-10-2012 03:03 PM

Yeah it would be a good deal on our end. But it's likely too low for what he's going to ask for. Think about this. This is a great off-season for teams who need a guard. Plenty of talent this year at that position. When Carl Nicks gets a monster contract in the 60 mill range it will only help Grubbs.

I figure he will get something more in the 5 year 40-45 mil range.

O.city 02-10-2012 03:08 PM

Bowe probably 5 years 50 million and Carr at what Flowers got at also 5 years 50 million.

Would that be about 10 million off that cap, giving us about 20 million to play with.

It's possible. But I think Grubbs is obviously less of a player than Nicks.

Nicks is probably the best G in the league. After looking around, I'd say Grubbs is more in the 30 million to 35 level.

6 years 35 million.

BossChief 02-10-2012 03:12 PM

Soliai willl get something similar to Wilforks deal.

Grubbs should get more than that of which you suggested.

Id have to dig in a little more to look at the leagues highest paid 20 guards and his asking price would probably fall somewhere near the average of those IMO.

Always remember that "market value" in the NFL is dictated most closely by players of similar ability level and the contracts they signed.

Its why I puked and never let it go when we signed Matt ****ing Cassel to a deal that was almost a carbon copy of Aaron Rogers contract...Pioli actually looked at them as similar players in level of overall skill.

O.city 02-10-2012 03:15 PM

Still tho, with the money we have what would be the hit if Bowe got Holmes money, Carr got Flowers money, Grubbs got that average, and Soliai got Slightly less than Wilfork money?

O.city 02-10-2012 03:19 PM

In any situation if we are targeted a NT or a G in free agency those are the two guys you would overspend a little for.

Carr and Bowe should be resigned to a long term deal, simply because they are great players. It would also put us closer to the cap next year and keep us from having to sign average players to bigger deals.

Also if you are adding Manning, Richardson and Charles behind him could be pretty dynamic.
