Greatest SNL Cast Member Round 2 Heat 4

We're going to whittle this down to the biggest stars of SNL. This round we'll take it down to the top 25. Select 4 There will be 5 heats in this round plus a winback.

Once again, my vote agrees with the consensus. I guess I'm too mainstream.

Wish I could pick 5, Belushi and Murphy are shew ins, McDonald, Rock and Short for the other two. Don't want to leave any of them out.

Rain Man 02-22-2012 11:10 AM

Murphy, Belushi, Short, and Wiig. What do I win?

Heyyyyy, I'm looking at the results and Short's not currently in the top four. What's up with that? Can anyone find the synchronized swimming segment with him? Ed Grimley? The tobacco company lawyer? The WWII soldier who didn't know how to use stairs? ("I'm from the Midwest. We didn't have stairs.")

So little love for Darrell Hammond and all the great characters he did. He carried the show for a time.

Martin Short also not getting the credit he deserves.

Martin Short....very underrated.

Dont forget Ed Grimley! Jackie Rogers Jr show

Granted, I quit watching SNL regularly decades ago, and it's been years now since I watched even a single episode. But of all the performers I've seen on the show over the years, certainly Murphy outshines them all, and I really don't even think there's anybody who comes close to him.

Too bad he degenerated into such an arrogant prick and no longer does anything in front of a live audience.

This is a pretty good heat. Good mix of old school, 90's and modern era SNL performers. Some quality comics will suffer as a result.

whoman69 02-22-2012 04:29 PM

I have a feeling some of those not getting in will make it on the winback from this heat.

I would really like to see Martin Short overtake Norm MacDonald. He was put on the Weekend Update because they couldn't put him in many sketches. Is he getting love from just his Burt Reynolds?

I'm sure I'll get flamed for this, but does anyone else think John Belushi is a tad bit overrated? I mean, if he hadn't died young would he really be thought of as one of the greatest?

Granted, I really didn't start watching SNL until the Carvey/Hartman/Lovitz era, so I never saw a lot of the old episodes. But I have seen "classic" skits like the killer bees, cheesburger, samurai deli, etc, etc. And they're amusing, but not exactly hilarious. Was that kind of comedy really that groundbreaking at the time?

My favorite Belushi skit is the commercial for Little Chocolate Donuts, where it shows him breaking Olympic world records. "That's why Little Chocolate Donuts have been on my training table since I was a kid." (as he reaches for a donut with a cigarette in his hand)

The women will be squeezed out of these polls pretty soon - which is sad, because there are some talented comediennes on these list.
The guys are just more over the top funny.

I think the funniest thing that Belushi did was when he was on Weekend update talking on the issues of the day. He would go overboard in his opinions. Usually Curtin would try to break in, but he would smack the table and tell her to back off. It would usually end up with him having a heart attack at the end.

Belushi was very, very good, but I think you're right in that he may get a nod over some guys like Dana Carvey and Mike Myers that I think brought more to the show.

It was all done by seeding from the votes in the previous round.

whoman69 02-23-2012 09:23 AM

The official results are in. The following qualify for the next round:

Eddie Murphy
John Belushi
Norm MacDonald
