Advice from those of you who drive higher end cars, or work on them.
 

I'm looking into getting a higher end car with low mileage, I would like to get a brand new one, but looking at the costs of some of them, there is no way possible I could afford one, nor would I want the financial burden.

What I am looking for is a 4 door sedan, the reason I would like to go higher end is because I am tired of having the lower quality cars. I have had some nicer domestics 05 Buick Lucerne, 08 Charger, 03 Buick Park Avenue. I would like to get something that's built top end, because we can work on it at our shop.

Secondly, those of you who do have the higher end cars and work on them yourselves, which ones would you stay away? I know some of you guys who work in the auto repair on this site see quite a bit of higher ends cars, so I would like your feedback too. I know some of you are saying "KCC don't you work at an auto repair, yes I do, but we do transmissions and wheel bearings, axles, brakes etc etc" So there are a lot of repairs that we don't do. To be honest we can fix anything, but I don't want to have to spend hundreds of dollars for speciality tools that we will only use on my car. Around here there is a different economic climate, those customers who have and can afford the higher end cars take them to the dealers exclusively for general repair. We do a lot of higher end Mercedes and BMW transmissions and some Audi's and Infiniti's here and there.

Im looking into BMW or probably more feasibly an Infiniti. I need it to be a 4 door. **Also, I am not looking to buy it right now, I am going to pay cash for it, or put a big of a down payment as I can, but I am in no rush, plenty of time to do my homework.

I like my BMW, though it's obviously not a four-door. I'm not a huge fan of the 3-series, since I don't think it feels like a luxury car. The 5-series and 7-series certainly look nice, though, particularly the 7-series.

Many years ago we had an Infiniti Q45. Darn nice car. I think the interior was nicer than anything we had in our house. But man, that thing was expensive to maintain, and the Infiniti dealer had a ripoff strategy. They had a tiered pricing structure where the same services cost more for the higher end cars than the lower end cars. So if you got an oil change in the Q45 it cost more than if you got an oil change with the I30 or whatever the middle car was, which in turn cost more than if you did it with the entry-level car. I saw no logic in charging more for the more expensive car, and thought it was a bad strategy since it always ticked off the people who owned the more expensive cars.

Love my Infiniti.

Both Infiniti and Acura share parts with comparable Nissans and Hondas, which makes finding parts much easier and less expensive.

Buy a new upper tier Accord or Camry and be done with it. Higher end doesn't guarantee you higher quality. Keep in mind a lot of what your paying for is fit and finish.

I think I need some education here because this confuses me.

If you buy an expensive, high end car, shouldn't the shop be the last place you need it?

You want a shop vechile, then my 97 Mitsubishi Montero Sport is all yours. That'll keep you busy. :P

Another negative for me is, alot of high end cars require premium fuel.

You might consider the Acura RL. Nice, nice car and very reliable.

Who ever said by a top of the line Honda or Toyota shares my thinking. I'm in the market for a couple of new vehicles. Going this route.

Looking at Toyota Highlander Limited Hybrid for one of them. My wife wants an effin Minivan (Honda one). Yuck. If she gets her way I'm buying a Sequoia Platinum. No way i drive around in a minivan.

My dad had an Audi A8L a few years ago. Shit expensive, but holy shit was that ever a nice car.

The way my dad described it, he woke up every morning and realized, "Yes! I get to drive my car to work today!"

I have a BMW but there is no way that I would do the work on it. You should hit up some of the fan websites/forums for the type of car you are interested in. I am a member over on Bimmerfest and there is a vast amount of information on the complete BMW line up, from early to current models. There are a lot of folks there that do their own work on them too.

I have to apologize, I was assuming that was a trim level of Cadillac but that’s just the dealership he bought it from. :redface:

BMWs depreciate so ridiculously fast I don't believe I will be upgrading to a newer model. The 6 series is one of my favorite looking cars though.

I like the look of the new Audi and Caddilac and have been checking those out as well.

A dad at kid's school came up in a Maserati Quatroport a few weeks ago. Cherry looking car, had to lean inside to take a look. Dashboard looked kind of like a rocket ship control center but damn it purred real nice.

Lots of people drive the Lexus LS, I've never heard anyone say anything but good about them.

I've had two 3 Series BMW's. They were nice - now I have a Lexus and I have to admit it's even better.

The wife and I absolutely love our Infiniti M45 Sport. Its a four door sedan that looks awesome. We take it to the Infiniti dealership in Springfield and they treat us better than family. I would highly recommend.

I like the M35 ... have not driven the 45... do you know if the 45 is as roomy and comfortable? I just started looking and of all the non-Mercedes type cars, I've found it to be the most comfortable (front and back) for passengers.

M3's are legit, but for the price, they are way outta my league. And the one's i could afford would be beat to pieces

Well i just meant to say, working on it isnt a problem, if its reliable I can deal with a now and then headache repair.

Thanks for remembering that. I hit a rough patch for a bit, but God has blessed me in more ways than I can count. I pray it continues for me, as well as my other chief brothers on this site!!
